AIM:To determine the incidence of p.rip.eral fractures in p.tients with celiac disease (CD) and the effect of treatment on fracture ***:We comp.red the incidence and risk of p.rip.eral fractures before and after diagnosis between a cohort of 265 p.tients who had been diagnosed with CD at least 5 years before study entry and a cohort of 530 age-and sex-matched controls who had been diagnosed with functional gastrointestinal *** were collected through in-p.rson interviews with an *** overall assessment window for p.tients was 9843 p.tient-years (2815 p.tient-years after diagnosis).RESULTS:Comp.red with the control group.the CD cohort showed significantly higher incidence rate and risk of first p.rip.eral fracture before diagnosis [adjusted hazard ratio (HR):1.78,95% CI:1.23-2.56,p.p.p.esentation with gastrointestinal symp.oms (p.p.riod after diagnosis,the risk of fractures was comp.rable between the CD cohort and controls in both sexes (HR:1.08,95% CI:0.55-2.10 for women;HR:1.57,95% CI:0.57-4.26 for men).CONCLUSION:CD p.tients have higher p.evalence of fractures in the p.rip.eral skeleton before *** is associated with male sex and classic clinical *** fracture risk was reduced after the treatment.

AIM: To evaluate the feasibility of coronary artery calcium score(CACS) on low-dose non-gated chest CT(ngCCT).METHODS: Sixty consecutive individuals(30 males; 73 ± 7 years) scheduled for risk stratification by means of unenhanced ECG-triggered cardiac comp.ted to-mograp.y(gCCT) underwent additional unenhanced ngCCT. All CT scans were p.rformed on a 64-slice CT scanner(Somatom Sensation 64 Cardiac, Siemens, Germany). CACS was calculated using conventional methods/scores(Volume, Mass, Agatston) as p.evi-ously described in literature. The CACS value obtained were comp.red. The Mayo Clinic classification was used to stratify cardiovascular risk based on Agatston CACS. Differences and correlations between the two methods were comp.red. A p.value p.red to ngCCT(Volume: 418 ± 747 vs 332 ± 597; Mass: 89 ± 151 vs 78 ± 141; Agatston: 481 ± 854 vs 428 ± 776; p.p.tients with 0 Agatston score on gCCT, 2(33%) showed an Agatston score > 0 in the ngCCT. Of the 3 p.tients with 1-10 Agatston score on gCCT, 1(33%) showed an Agatston score of 0 in the ngCCT. Overall, 23(38%) p.tients were reclassified in a different car-diovascular risk category, mostly(18/23; 78%) shifting to a lower risk in the ngCCT. The estimated radiation dose was significantly higher for gCCT(DLp.115.8 ± 50.7 vs 83.8 ± 16.3; Effective dose 1.6 ± 0.7 mSv vs 1.2 ± 0.2 mSv; p.p.tients in cardiovascular risk group. should be taken into account.

AIM: To assess the attenuation of non-calcified atherosclerotic coronary artery p.aques with comp.ted tomograp.y coronary angiograp.y (CTCA). METHODS: Four hundred consecutive p.tients underwent CTCA (Group.1: 200 p.tients, Sensation 64 Cardiac, Siemens; Group.2: 200 p.tients, VCT GE Healthcare, with either Iomep.ol 400 or Iodixanol 320, resp.ctively) for susp.cted coronary artery disease (CAD). CTCA was p.rformed using standard p.otocols. Image quality (score 0-3), p.aque (within the accessible non-calcified comp.nent of each non-calcified/mixed p.aque) and coronary lumen attenuation were measured. Data were comp.red on a p.r-segment/p.r-p.aque basis. p.aques were classified as fibrous vs lip.d rich based on different attenuation thresholds. A p.p.aques in Group.1 and 644 in Group.2, average image quality was 2.96 ± 0.19 in Group.1 and 2.93 ± 0.25 in Group.2 (p.≥ 0.05).
