Introduction: Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease, highly contagious due to influenza viruses. The objective of this work was to identify, understand the epidemiology of circulating strains and estimate disease transmission. Patients and Methods: The study was carried out in the pediatric department of the Sikasso Hospital. This was a prospective, longitudinal descriptive study over a five-year period (January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2019). She was interested in severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) for hospitalized patients in the pediatric department. Results: During the study period the prevalence of severe acute respiratory infections among hospitalized children was 21.85‰. The majority of cases were observed in 2019 with 58 cases, the sex ratio was 1.8. The age group from 0 to 1 was the most represented with 100 cases (48.30%) followed by 2 to 4 years 73 cases (35.24%) and 5 to 15 years 34 cases (16.46%). More than half of the patients lived in rural areas 129 (62.31%). Fever and cough were present in the majority of patients. No children had received influenza vaccination. In study 36 (17.39%) cases were positive for influenza A and B.

Delay for Performing Laparotomy for Extra Uterine Pregnancy in N’Djamena Mother and Child University Hospital

Background: Ectopic pregnancy is defined as any pregnancy developed outside the uterine cavity. Objective: to study the relationship between the duration of laparotomy for EP and maternal prognosis. Patients and method. This was a prospective analytical study performed during a period of six (06) months, from May 1st to October 30, 2023, on delay time to perform laparotomy for EP in N’Djamena Mother and child University hospital (NMCUH). We included in this series all patients admitted for EP managed by laparotomy. Data were collected using Word software and analyzed using SPSS 18.0 version 2018. The p value statistical test was used to compare variables (p significant if ≤5%). Results: We recorded 92 cases of EP out of 5751 pregnancies, giving a frequency of 1.6%. Among patients diagnosed with EP, 76/92 (82.6%) had an indication of laparotomy. In 90.8%, the EP was ruptured. On admission, the diagnosis of EP was made within 1 hour in 15.8% of cases. The time to sign the consent allowing doctor to operate was >1 hour in 14.5% of cases. The operating room was unavailable in 34.2% of cases, with an unavailability of >1 hour in 17.1% of cases. Total salpingectomy was performed in 93.4%. Salpingotomy was performed in 6.6%. The lethality rate was 3.9% with significant value when the delay after indication and admission in the operating room is >1 (p value = 0.03). Conclusion: Various factors, such as the search for blood products, the time loss to sign the consent form and the unavailability of the operating room, delay the laparotomy, influence maternal prognosis. Anticipation on these factors is necessary in order to limit the proportion of delays.

Detection of Adenovirus in Fresh Fruit, Vegetables, Wastewater and Manure from Irrigated Farms in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Enteric viral pathogens are responsible for numerous epidemics associated with the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetable, whether raw or minimally processed. The aim of the present study was to assess agricultural practices and the presence of adenovirus (AdV) in fruits and vegetables, manure and irrigation wastewater sampled in the urban and peri-urban perimeters of Ouagadougou. A total of 286 samples including 30 lettuces, 42 tomatoes, 30 carrots, 30 strawberries, 74 manures and 80 wastewater samples were collected from four market garden sites in and around Ouagadougou. Nested PCR was performed with specific primers to detect adenoviruses (AdVs). A face-to-face survey was carried out using a questionnaire on market garden production practices. Overall, adenoviruses prevalence was 5.9% [IC95, 3.2% - 8.7%] in all samples analyzed. It was specifically 7.14% (3/42) from tomatoes, 6.7% (2/30) from lettuces, 20% (6/30) on strawberries and 7.5% (6/80) in irrigation water. The survey showed that irrigation water came from untreated sources (dam, well, canal) and then 52% of farms used untreated manure. No farms have implemented measures to limit access by domestic and wild animals. This work shows the presence of human adenoviruses in surface irrigation water and fresh produce, which is of concern when fresh produce is consumed raw. To reduce the public health risks associated with consuming these foods, it is essential to follow good hygiene and cultivation practices.

Seizures in Children under Five in a Pediatric Ward: Prevalence, Associated Factors and Outcomes

Introduction: convulsion is a frequent cause of neurological and cognitive sequelae and then of epilepsy. The objective of this work was to describe the socio-demographic, clinical, therapeutic, and evolutionary aspects. Methodology: This was a descriptive retrospective study carried out in the general pediatrics department of CHU-Gabriel Touré. It took place over a period of 02 years from January 2017 to December 2018. We included all children aged 1 to 59 months hospitalized in the ward for convulsion. Results: During the study period, 2653 children aged 2 months to 59 months were hospitalized in the general pediatric ward. We included 288 medical records of children who presented with a seizure on admission. Convulsions represented 11% of pediatric hospitalizations from 1 month to 59 months. The average age was 29 months. Fever was present in 86% of patients. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) test was positive in 38 patients. Hypoglycemia was present in 14 patients. Serum calcium was low in 3 patients. The most implicated etiologies were malaria 70%, meningitis 20%, and dehydration 13%. Management consisted of airway clearance, oxygen therapy as needed, and administration of diazepam (54%). Antibiotics were prescribed in 77% of cases and antimalarials in 70%. The average length of hospital stay was 8 days with extremes of 1 and 30 days. The outcome was favorable in 95% of cases. Sequelae were observed in 5% of cases and one case of death was observed. Fabrication of crystalline submicro-to-nano carbon wire for achieving high current density and ultrastable current

Crystalline carbon nanowire arrays were fabricated taking advantage of near-field electrospinning and stress decyanation.A novel fabrication method for carbon nanowires with radii ranging from~2.15μm down to~25 nm was developed based on implementing nitrogen pretreatment on the silica surface and then aligning polymer nanofibers during near-field electrospinning at an ultralow *** decyanation was implemented by subsequently pyrolyzing a polymer nanofiber array on the silica surface at 1000°C for 1 h in an N_(2)atmosphere,thus obtaining a crystalline carbon nanowire array with a nanostructured *** crystalline nanostructures were fabricated on the nanowire surface,and their electrochemical performance was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry(CV)and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).Crystalline carbon wires with diameters ranging from micrometers to submicrometers displayed carbon nanoelectrode-like behavior with their CV curve having a sigmoidal shape.A highly crystalline carbon nanowire array showed distinct behavior,having a monotonically increasing straight line as its CV curve and a semicircular EIS spectrum;these results demonstrated its ultrastable current,as determined by electron ***,nanocrystalline-structured carbon wires with diameters of~305 nm displayed at least a fourfold higher peak current density during CV(4000 mA/m2)than highly crystalline carbon nanowires with diameters of~100 nm and porous microwires with diameters of~4.3μm.

Bart’s Syndrome: A Neonatal Observation about a Case Report

Introduction: Bart’s syndrome is a rare neonatal pathology combining congenital skin aplasia affecting the extremities and congenital epidermolysis bullosa, exceptionally described on black skin. Observation: A 2-day-old male newborn was referred for multiple ulcerations of the limbs observed at birth. The clinical examination found an absence of bilateral and symmetrical skin occupying almost all of the two lower limbs with some flaccid bubbles. The vascular network was clearly visible. The rest of the skin coating was normal. The diagnosis of Bart syndrome in connection with epidermolysis bullosa was evoked clinically and despite pediatric and dermatological management, the evolution was rapidly fatal by severe sepsis. Discussion: Bart syndrome corresponds to a clinical picture of congenital skin aplasia associated with congenital epidermolysis bullosa suspected by areas of fragility and sometimes bubbles. All types of congenital epidermolysis bullosa may be associated with this syndrome. The clinical diagnosis is generally easy but the therapeutic management is difficult and the prognosis reserved. Conclusion: Bart syndrome is a curious congenital association of well-defined skin symptoms, the etiopathogeny of which still remains poorly elucidated, hence the difficulty of establishing an antenatal diagnostic strategy or giving appropriate genetic advice.

Glassy carbon nanofibers(GCNFs)are considered promising candidates for the fabrication of nanosensors for biosensing ***,in part due to their great stability,carbon electrodes with sub-10 nm nanogaps represent an attractive platform for probing the electrical characteristics of *** fabrication of sub-10 nm nanogap electrodes in these GCNFs,which is achieved by electrically stimulating the fibers until they break,was previously found to require fibers shorter than 2µm;however,this process is generally hampered by the limitations inherent to photolithographic *** this work,to obtain nanogaps on the order of 10 nm without the need for sub-2µm GCNFs,we employed a fabrication strategy in which the fibers were gradually thinned down by continuously monitoring the changes in the electrical resistance of the fiber and adjusting the applied voltage *** further reduce the nanogap size,we studied the mechanism behind the thinning and eventual breakdown of the suspended GCNFs by controlling the environmental conditions and pressure during the *** this approach,which includes performing the experiments in a high-vacuum chamber after a series of carbon dioxide(CO 2)purging cycles,nanogaps on the order of 10nm were produced in suspended GCNFs 52µm in length,much longer than the~2µm GCNFs needed to produce such small gaps without the procedure employed in this ***,the electrodes showed no apparent change in their shape or nanogap width after being stored at room temperature for approximately 6 months.

Spontaneous Bilateral Tubal Ectopic Pregnancy:A Case Report

Bilateral ectopic pregnancy is the rarest form of ectopic pregnancy. We report a case of spontaneous bilateral tubal ectopic pregnancy diagnosed intra operatively. A 30-year-old patient was admitted to the emergency room of N’Djamena mother and child hospital complaining of vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain. Salpingectomy left tube and salpingotomy right tube were performed without complication and that histopathological report confirmed the diagnosis.

We herein report a high-resolution nanopatterning method using low voltage electromechanical spinning with a rotating collector to obtain aligned graphitized micro and nanowires for carbon nanomanufacturing.A small wire diameter and a small inter-wire spacing were obtained by controlling the electric field,the spinneret-to-collector distance,the pyrolysis parameters,the linear speed of the spinneret,the rotational speed of the *** a simple scaling analysis,we show how the straightness and the diameter of the wires can be controlled by the electric field and the distance of the spinneret to the collector.A small inter-wire spacing,as predicted by a simple model,was achieved by simultaneously controlling the linear speed of the spinneret and the rotational speed of the *** drying of the polymer nanowires enabled the facile fabrication of suspended wires over various *** polyacrylonitrile wires were carbonized using standard stabilization and pyrolysis to obtain carbon *** carbon nanowires with a diameter of<50 nm were *** also established a method for making patterned,highly graphitized structures by using the aforementioned carbon wire structures as a template for chemical vapor deposition of *** patterning technique offers high throughput for nano writing,which outperforms other existing nanopatterning techniques,making it a potential candidate for large-scale carbon nanomanufacturing.
