Forecasting risk using auto regressive integrated moving average approach: an evidence from S&P BSE Sensex

The primary objective of the paper is to forecast the beta values of companies listed on Sensex,Bombay Stock Exchange(BSE).The BSE Sensex constitutes 30 top most companies listed which are popularly known as blue-chip *** reach out the predefined objectives of the research,Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average method is used to forecast the future risk and returns for 10 years of historical data from April 2007 to March *** accomplished by comparison of forecasted and actual beta values for the hold back period of 2 ***-Mean-Square-Error and Mean-Absolute-Error both are used for accuracy *** results revealed that out of 30 listed companies in the BSE Sensex,10 companies’exhibits high beta values,12 companies are with moderate and 8 companies are with low beta ***,it is to note that Housing Development Finance Corporation(HDFC)exhibits more inconsistency in terms of beta values though the average beta value is lowest among the companies under the study.A mixed trend is found in forecasted beta values of the BSE *** this analysis,all the p-values are less than the F-stat values except the case of Tata Steel and ***,the null hypotheses were rejected leaving Tata Steel and *** values of actual and forecasted values are showing the almost same results with low error ***,it is concluded from the study that the estimation ARIMA could be acceptable,and forecasted beta values are *** far,there are many studies on ARIMA model to forecast the returns of the stocks based on their historical ***,hardly there are very few studies which attempt to forecast the returns on the basis of their beta ***,the attempt so made is a novel approach which has linked risk directly with *** the basis of the present study,authors try to through light on investment decisions by linking it with beta values of respective ***,the outcomes of the present study und

Risk factors for endophthalmitis following cataract surgery-our experience at a tertiary eye care centre in India

AIMTo determine the risk factors for acute endophthalmitis after cataract extraction in a tertiary care centre in *** performed a nested case control study within a retrospective cohort. The surgical records of all patients with clinically diagnosed endophthalmitis within one month after cataract surgery, performed between January 2006 and December 2009, were reviewed. These were compared with randomly selected age and gender-matched controls, from patients having routine cataract surgery within ±1wk of the endophthalmitis case. Univariable and multivariable analysis were performed to identify risk factors for *** the total 33 856 cataract surgeries performed during this period, there were 57 cases of postoperative acute endophthalmitis that met our study criteria. Thus, the overall incidence of endophthalmitis in our cohort was 1.6 per 1000 cataract extractions performed. Mean age of cases was 55.9y (SD: 10.9y) and for controls was 55.6y (SD: 9.8y). Thirty-five cases (61.4%) and 133 controls (59.6%) were males. Median time of onset of endophthalmitis was 4d (IQR 2-9d; range: 1-30d). Thirty-nine cases (68.4%) presented within 7d and 27 cases (47.4%) were culture positive. Two hundred and twenty-three age and gender matched controls were selected. In multivariate analysis, endophthalmitis was associated with posterior capsular rupture (PCR) during surgery (OR 6.98, 95%CI: 2.22-21.98), phacoemulsification via scleral incision with a foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation (OR 3.02, 95%CI: 1.13-8.04) and ocular co-morbidity (OR 2.32, 95%CI: 1.11-4.87).CONCLUSIONPCR, presence of ocular co-morbidity, and phacoemulsification via scleral incision with foldable-IOL were found to be independent risk factors for acute endophthalmitis.

In this paper, we investigate the distribution statistics of photons in a single mode radiation field subjected to two-photon absorption (TPA) and the factors that contribute to squeezing and antibunching of photons, leading to the generation of nonclassical light. TPA is a nonlinear optical phenomenon in which the atoms interact with the light field by absorbing two photons simultaneously. The motivation to study TPA is the recent intense activity on nanocrystallites/quantum dots. Further, it is the only nonlinear optical phenomenon that can be analytically studied. The simultaneous occurrence of squeezing and antibunching is studied with small initial photon numbers by solving the master equation for TPA of a single mode radiation directly by numerical integration, without going through analytical procedure. The results are compared with those of analytical/numerical procedures available. Further, the discussion on the parameters of squeezing and antibunching for short-time (ST) as well as long-time is done comprehensively in the present work by taking up the ST approximation and summation of ST (SST) procedure along with the exact numerical method.

It is often very difficult for the patient to tell the difference between angina symptoms and heart attack symptoms, so it is very important to recognize the signs of heart attack and immedi-ately seek medical attention. A practical case of this type of remote consultation is examined in this paper. To deal with the huge amount of electrocardiogram (ECG) data for analysis, storage and transmission;an efficient ECG compression technique is needed to reduce the amount of data as much as possible while pre-serving the clinical significant signal for cardiac diagnosis. Here the ECG signal is analyzed for various parameters such as heart rate, QRS-width, etc. Then the various parameters and the compressed signal can be transmitted with less channel capacity. Comparison of various ECG compression techniques like TURNING POINT, AZTEC, CORTES, FFT and DCT it was found that DCT is the best suitable compression technique with compression ratio of about 100:1. In addition, different techniques are available for implementation of hardware components for signal pickup the virtual im-plementation with labview is also used for analysis of various cardiac parameters and to identify the abnormalities like Tachycardia, Bradycardia, AV Block, etc. Both hardware and virtual implementation are also detailed in this context.

As a part of our systematic study of the physical properties of the compounds of symmetric liquid crystal dimer homologous series, α,ω-bis-(4-n-alkylaniline benzylidene-4’-oxy) alkanes (***.m), we report here an optical study of two nematogenic compounds of this series viz., 6.O12O.6 and 7.O12O.7 by carrying out the measurement of extraordinary and ordinary refractive indices using modified spectrometer. The molecular polarizability anisotropies are evaluated using Lippincott δ-function model, the molecular vibration method, Haller’s extrapolation method and scaling factor method. The molecular polrizabilities, αe and αo are calculated using Vuks’ isotropic field model and Neugebauer’s anisotropic field model. The orientational order parameter, S, is estimated by using the molecular polarizability values calculated from refractive index and denstity data as well as polarizability anisotropy values calculated as a function of temperature in the nematic phase of both of the dimers. These values are discussed with reference to the order parameter values obtained directly from the optical birefringence, Δn, data without assuming any internal field. A comparison of the order parameter values from all of these methods was carried out in the light of available literature data.
