Primary hepatic peripheral T-cell lymphoma associated with Epstein-Barr viral infection

Primary hepatic peripheral T-cell lymphoma(H-PTCL) is one of the rarest forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. We report a patient who presented with worsening jaundice, abdominal pain, and vomiting. Laboratory values were significant for elevated total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, and liver aminotransferases. Following a liver biopsy, histopathology revealed several large dense clusters of atypical T-lymphocytes which were CD2+, CD3+, CD5+, CD7-, CD4+, CD8-, CD56-, CD57-, CD30+ by immunohistochemistry. The proliferation index was approximately 70% by labeling for ki67/mib1. The above histological profile was consistent with peripheral T-cell lymphoma of the liver. Epstein-Barr viral serology indicated a remote infection, a likely risk factor for PTCL. Bone marrow biopsy was negative for malignancy, further supporting hepatic origin.

Purpose-The deep learning-based recommender framework(DLRF)is based on an improved long short-term memory(LSTM)structurewith additional controllers;thus,it considers contextual information for state transition.It also handles irregularities in the data to enhance performance in generating recommendations while modelling short-term preferences.An algorithm named a multi-preference integrated algorithm(MPIA)is proposed to have dynamic integration of both kinds of user preferences aforementioned.Extensive experiments are made using Amazon benchmark datasets,and the results are compared with many existing recommender systems(RSs).Design/methodology/approach-RSs produce quality information filtering to the users based on their preferences.In the contemporary era,online RSs-based collaborative filtering(CF)techniques are widely used to model long-term preferences of users.With deep learning models,such as recurrent neural networks(RNNs),it became viable to model short-term preferences of users.In the existing RSs,there is a lack of dynamic integration of both long-and short-term preferences.In this paper,the authors proposed a DLRF for improving the state of the art in modelling short-term preferences and generating recommendations as well.Findings-The results of the empirical study revealed that the MPIA outperforms existing algorithms in terms of performance measured using metrics such as area under the curve(AUC)and F1-score.The percentage of improvement in terms AUC is observed as 1.3,2.8,3 and 1.9%and in terms of F-1 score 0.98,2.91,2 and 2.01%on the datasets.Originality/value-The algorithm uses attention-based approaches to integrate the preferences by incorporating contextual information.

Strongyloidiasis is an intestinal infection caused by the parasitic nematodes of the Strongyloides species,most commonly Strongyloides stercoralis.We report a case of a 66-year-old immigrant male from Haiti who presented with complaints of diarrhea and an unintentional 80-lb weight loss over the past 5 years.Stool examination was positive for strongyloidiasis.Following albendazole therapy,esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)showed a unique ampullary lesion.Histopathology of the ampullary lesion showed reactive epithelium with Strongyloides larva.In addition,endoscopic ultrasound(EUS)detected a large pancreatic cyst.Both these findings were absent on EGD 5 years previously,prior to the onset of his symptoms.This paper documents a rare case of an ampullary lesion and pancreatic cyst secondary to hepatobiliary strongyloidiasis in a non-Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV)patient.We review the epidemiology,life cycle,clinical presentation and treatment of strongyloidiasis.

Machine learning(ML)has emerged as a significant tool in the field of biorefinery,offering the capability to analyze and predict complex processes with efficiency.This article reviews the current state of biorefinery and its classification,highlighting various commercially successful biorefineries.Further,we delve into different categories of ML models,including their algorithms and applications in various stages of biorefinery lifecycle,such as biomass characterization,pretreatment,lignin valorization,chemical,thermochemical and biochemical conversion processes,supply chain analysis,and life cycle assessment.The benefits and limitations of each of these algorithms are discussed in detail.Finally,the article concludes with a discussion of the limitations and future prospects of ML in the field of biorefineries.

Simultaneous determination of asenapine and valproic acid in human plasma using LC-MS/MS:Application of the method to support pharmacokinetic study

Combination of asenapine with valproic acid received regulatory approval for acute treatment of schizophrenia and maniac episodes of bipolar disorders. A simple LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for simultaneous quantification of asenapine and valproic acid in human plasma. Internal standards were added to 300 ~L of plasma sample prior to liquid-liquid extraction using methyl tertiary butyl ether （MTBE）. Chromatographic separation was achieved on Phenomenex C18 column （50 mm ~ 4.6 mm, 5 pm） in isocratic mode at 40 ~C. The mobile phase used was 10 mM ammonium formate-acetonitrile （5：95, v/v） at a constant flow rate of 0.8 mL/min monitored on triple quadrupole mass spectrometer, operating in the multiple reaction monitoring （MRM） mode. The injection volume used for LC-MS/MS analysis was 15 taL and the run time was 2.5 min. These low run time and small injection volume suggest the high efficiency of the proposed method. The method was validated over the concentration range of 0.1-10.02ng/mL and 10-20,000ng/mL for asenapine and valproic acid respectively. The method recoveries of asenapine （81.33%）, valproic acid （81.70%）, gliclazide （78.45%） and benzoic acid （79.73） from spiked plasma samples were consistent and reproducible. The application of this method was demonstrated by a pharmacokinetic study in 8 healthy male volunteers with 5 mg asenapine and 250 mg valproic acid administration.

Many different languages are spoken in India, each language being the mother tongue of tens of millions of people. While the languages and scripts are distinct from each other, the grammar and the alphabet are similar to a large extent. One common feature is that all the Indian languages are phonetic in nature. In this paper we describe the development of a translit- eration scheme Om which exploits this phonetic nature of the alphabet. Om uses ASCII characters to represent Indian language alphabets, and thus can be read directly in English, by a large number of users who cannot read script in other Indian languages than their mother tongue. It is also useful in computer applications where local language tools such as email and chat are not yet available. Another significant contribution presented in this paper is the development of a text editor for Indian languages that integrates the Om input for many Indian languages into a word processor such as Microsoft WinWord?. The text editor is also developed on Java? platform that can run on Unix machines as well. We propose this transliteration scheme as a possible standard for Indian language transliteration and keyboard entry.

Applying UML and Machine Learning to Enhance System Analysis and Design

System analysis and design (SAD) is a crucial process in the development of software systems. The impact of modeling techniques and software engineering practices on SAD has been the focus of research for many years. Two such techniques that have had a significant impact on SAD are Unified Modeling Language (UML) and machine learning. UML has been used to model the structure and behavior of software systems, while machine learning has been used to automatically learn patterns in data and make predictions. The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on the impact of UML and machine learning on SAD. We summarize the findings from several studies and highlight the key insights related to the benefits and limitations of these techniques for SAD. Our review shows that both UML and machine learning have had a positive impact on SAD, with UML improving communication and documentation, and machine learning improving the accuracy of predictions. However, there are also challenges associated with their use, such as the need for expertise and the difficulty of interpreting machine learning models. Our findings suggest that a combination of UML and machine learning can enhance SAD by leveraging the strengths of each technique.

The aim of the present work is fabrication of dual cross linked sodium alginate(SA)/montmorillonite(MMT) microbeads as a potential drug vehicle for extended release of curcumin(CUR). The microbeads were prepared using in situ ion-exchange followed by simple ionotropic gelation technique. The developed beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), X-ray diffraction(X-RD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The effect of MMT on encapsulation efficiency of CUR and intercalation kinetics was investigated. Dynamic swelling study and in vitro release study were investigated in simulated intestinal fluid(pH 7.4) and simulated gastric fluid(pH 1.2) at 37 ℃. Results suggested that both the swelling and in vitro release studies were influenced by the pH of test media, which might be suitable for intestinal drug delivery. The release mechanism was analyzed by fitting the release data into KorsmeyerPeppas equation.

Nitrogen Nutrition, Its Regulation and Biotechnological Approaches to Improve Crop Productivity

Nitrogen is the most important macronutrient needed for plant growth and development. The availability of nitrogen in the soil fluctuates greatly in both time and space. Crop plants, except leguminous plants, depend on supply of nitrogen as fertilizers. Large quantities of nitrogen fertilizers are applied to crop plants, but only 33% of it is utilized by the plant. Plants have developed efficient mechanisms to sense the varying levels of nitrogen forms and uptake them. They also have well developed mechanisms to assimilate the incoming nitrogen immediately or translocate to different parts of the plant wherever it is needed. Maintenance of nitrogen homeostasis is essential to avoid toxicity. Apart from translocation and assimilation, plants have developed different mechanisms, nitrogen efflux;vacuolar nitrogen storage and downward transport of nitrogen from aerial parts to roots, for maintaining nitrogen homeostasis. In crop plants the “grain yield per unit of available nitrogen in the soil” is referred as the nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) for which remobilization of nitrogen, mediated by various transporters plays a crucial role. All these processes are tightly regulated by proteins and microRNA in response to both external and internal nitrogen levels, carbon status of the plant and hormones. As most crop plants are non-leguminous and depend on soil nitrogen, more production could be achieved if crop plants can be made to utilize the available nitrogen efficiently. The recent explosion of research information and the mechanisms behind nitrogen sensing, signaling, transport and utilization enables biotechnological interventions for better nitrogen nutrition of crop plants. This review discusses such possibilities in the context of recent understanding of nitrogen nutrition and the genomic revolution sweeping the crop science.
