A New Species of Euphlyctis (Amphibia, Anura, Dicroglossidae) from the West Coastal Plains of India

The genus Euphlyctis is widely distributed across Southwestern Arabian Peninsula into parts of Southeast Asia. Five of the seven known Euphlyctis species are found within the Indian subcontinent. Here, we describe a new species, Euphlyctis karaavali sp. nov. from South-west coast of India, which was discovered during surveys engaging citizens. This species was identified to be distinct based on molecular and morphological evidence. We provide a detailed description of this species along with its call description and compare it with closest congeners. Previous studies in the region had identified this species as E. hexadactylus but suggested the possibility of it being cryptic. Genetically E. karaavali sp. nov. is distinct from E. hexadactylus with a genetic divergence of 9.2% （12S and 16S） and shows a high divergence with E. kalasgramensis and E. ehrenbergii （13.04% each）. Our findings are discussed in the context of cryptic species discovery, citizen engagement in scientific progress and conservation measures while suggesting future directions.

Prospects to the formation and control of potential dimer impurity E of pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate

Pantoprazole sodium, a substituted benzimidazole derivative, is an irreversible proton pump inhibitor which is primarily used for the treatment of duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The monographs of European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) specify six impurities, viz.;impurities A, B, C, D, E and F, respectively for its active pharmaceutical ingredient (API). The identification and synthesis of all impurities except impurity E are well described in the literature;however, there is no report related to impurity E. The prospects to the formation and controlling of impurity E up to -0.03% in the synthesis of pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate (PAN) were discussed in detail for the first time. The present work described the journey towards the successful development of an optimal preparation procedure of dimer impurity E. The most plausible mechanism involved in the formation of impurity E has been proposed.

No difference in mortality among ALPPS,two-staged hepatectomy,and portal vein embolization/ligation:A systematic review by updated traditional and network meta-analyses

Background:There is an ongoing debate on the feasibility,safety,and oncological efficacy of the associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy(ALPPS)*** aim of this study was to compare ALPPS,two-staged hepatectomy(TSH),and portal vein embolization(PVE)/ligation(PVL)using updated traditional meta-analysis and network meta-analysis(NMA).Data sources:Electronic databases were used in a systematic literature *** traditional metaanalysis and NMA were performed and *** and major morbidity were selected as primary ***:Nineteen studies including 1200 patients were selected from the pool of 436 *** these patients,315(31%)and 702(69%)underwent ALPPS and portal vein occlusion(PVO),*** mortality based on updated traditional meta-analysis,subgroup analysis of the randomized controlled trials(RCTs),and both Bayesian and frequentist NMA did not demonstrate significant differences between the ALPPS cohort and the PVE,PVL,and TSH ***,analysis of RCTs did not demonstrate significant differences of major morbidity between the ALPPS and PVO *** ALPPS cohort demonstrated significantly more favorable outcomes in hypertrophy parameters,time to operation,definitive hepatectomy,and R0 margins rates compared with the PVO *** contrast,1-year disease-free survival was significantly higher in the PVO cohort compared to the ALPPS ***:This study is the first to use updated traditional meta-analysis and both Bayesian and frequentist NMA and demonstrated no significant differences in 90-day mortality between the ALPPS and other hepatic hypertrophy ***,two high quality RCTs including 147 patients demonstrated no significant differences in major morbidity between the ALPPS and PVO cohorts.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most common primary liver tumor and has been considered a very immunogenic *** treatment with radiofrequency ablation(RFA)has been established as the standard ablative therapy for early HCC,and is currently recognized as the main ablative tool for HCC tumors<5 cm in size;however,progression and local recurrence remain the main disadvantages of this *** solve this clinical problem,recent efforts were concentrated on multimodal treatment,combining different strategies,including the combination of RFA and *** article reviewed the combination treatment of RFA with immunotherapy and found that this treatment strategy leads to an increased response of anti-tumor T cells,significantly reduces the risk of recurrence and improves survival rates compared to RFA *** review highlighted scientific evidence that supports the current recommendations for pre-clinical studies,and discuss the need for further research on this topic.

Association between Anthropometry and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

Introduction: The predictive value of various anthropometric indicators for identifying benefits or risksfor maternal health outcomes of pregnancy is discussed around the globe. Anthropometric measurements can be a cost effective, efficient method of screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) especially, in developing countries with low-cost health care settings. Objectives: To determine a relationship between anthropometric measurements and GDM and to assess the importance/suitability of an anthropometric measurement in predicting GDM. Methods: A correlational study with the evaluation of diagnostic test accuracy was conducted among 48 pregnant women at period of amenorrhoea (POA) of 26 - 34 weeks of gestation. The obstetrics ward and the antenatal clinic of Peradeniya teaching hospital was the study setting. Systematic random sampling technique was used for participant selection. Singleton pregnancies with Body Mass Index (BMI) less than 30.0 kg/m2 were included. Women with pre-existing diabetes and medical disorders were excluded. Mid arm circumference (MAC), tricipital skin fold thickness (TSFT), bicipital skin fold thickness (BSFT) were measured according to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) anthropometry manual. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was applied to collect the data. Data was evaluated in accordance with the objectives by using SPSS version 25. Results: Mean age of the participants was 29.67 years (SD = 4.76 years). Mean height and weight of the study participants were 154.93 cm and 67.45 kg respectively. Mean BMI value was recorded as 28.13 kgm2. Mean mid arm circumference was 9.43 cm. According to the multivariate analysis done by using logistic regression, calculated TSFT and BSFT values were independently associated with GDM in the population. Successful prediction can be achieved by using the BMI and the body weight (AUC 0.5). 24.8 kg/m2 is taken as the best cut off val

A Markov Approach to Exchange Rate Sentiment Analysis of Major Global Currencies

The paper deals with the analysis of exchange rates sentiments. In the approach suggested here a typical exchange rate sentiment is defined on the basis of certain function of mean and standard error of the logarithm of the ratio of successive daily exchange rates. Based on this surmise, the exchange rate sentiments are classified into various states, whereby states are named according to the perceptions of the market player. A Markov model is built to capture the uncertainties in exchange rates sentiments. The approach advocated here will be of interest to researchers, exchange rate traders and financial analysts. As an application of the proposed line of approach, we analyse weekly and monthly exchange rate sentiments that govern exchange rates of the major global currencies—EUR, GBP, SDR, YEN, ZAR, USD, using data from 2001-2012. Some interesting conclusions are revealed based on the data analysis approach advocated in this paper.

研究金线鲃(Sinocyclocheilus)的游动特征——趋触性(贴近边界前行),为人工养殖、繁育和物种保护提供理论支持。试验用金线鲃均为成鱼,8种51尾,其中盲眼种2种、小眼种和正常眼种各3种。试验在安静、黑暗的环境进行,刺激条件分别为无干扰、静止障碍物和振动吸引,使用软件追踪分析试验鱼位置(距离和方向)、时间以及相对于试验缸壁的游动速度,运用线性模型分析金线鲃趋触行为差异的关键因素。结果表明:趋触前行时间占比盲眼种为73.06%、小眼种为72.65%、正常眼种为54.62%;趋触距离盲眼种(197±18)SBL、小眼种(158±14)SBL、正常眼种(139±15)SBL;趋触游动速度盲眼种(0.53±0.19)cm/(s·SBL)、正常眼种(0.37±0.18)cm/(s·SBL)、小眼种(0.46±0.22)cm/(s·SBL)。金线鲃趋触前行的行为与游泳特性如游泳速度和时间高度相关,趋触行为可能作为一种自我保护作用和觅食策略,甚至作为一种防御策略。实践中可以依据金线鲃眼部形态和行为上的趋触性偏好分类培育饲养,同时增加缓沉型鱼食以及增添静止设施。
