Don’t burn the baby: Advice from Australian nurses recommending therapeutic sun exposure during infancy

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated inappropriate advice from health profes- sionals advocating therapeutic sun exposure during infancy and the post-partum period. This study examines the proportion of Australian midwives and related hospital nursing staff who recommend therapeutic sun exposure during this period. Methods: Questionnaires were completed by 363 Australian nurses (57.2% response) responsible for nursing post-partum women in 11 maternity hospitals in Queensland (QLD) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Results: Many nurses believed sun exposure was beneficial in treating: cracked nipples (QLD 41.3%, ACT 65.8%;p specified exposure time limits. Nursing staff from public hospitals in QLD, but not the ACT, were more likely than nurses from private hospitals to hold one or more such beliefs (p = 0.008). Approximately 40% of respondents thought people generally looked healthier with a suntan;79% of this group also held one or more risky beliefs about therapeutic sun exposure (p = 0.043). Conclusion: A high proportion of these nurses held risky beliefs about the beneficial uses of sunlight for post-partum women and their infants and made recommendations consistent with their beliefs. Professional education is needed to change the beliefs and practices of nursing staff about intentional sun exposure of women and their babies to reduce their long- term skin cancer risk, particularly as Australia has such a high prevalence of skin cancer.

In this paper we explore conditions on variable symbols with respect to Haar systems,defining Calderón–Zygmund type operators with respect to the dyadic metrics associated to the Haar bases. We show that Petermichl’s dyadic kernel can be seen as a variable kernel singular integral and we extend it to dyadic systems built on spaces of homogeneous type.

Envita’s Precision Cancer Care: 35-Fold Improvement in Response Rates

New clinical approaches are imperative beyond the widely adopted National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines, utilized by prominent cancer institutions. Cancer is the leading cause of death among individuals younger than 85 years within the United States. Despite significant technological advances, including the expenditure of hundreds of billions, treatment outcomes and overall survival have not notably improved for most types of advanced cancer over the last several decades. Over the past 24 years, Envita Medical Centers has pioneered a unique form of personalized treatment approach for late-stage and refractory cancer patients, introducing groundbreaking innovations in the field. Our integrated algorithm utilizes advanced genomics, transcriptomics, and highly tailored immunotherapy, resulting in remarkable outcome improvements. This study presents Envita’s innovative personalized treatment algorithms and examines the response outcomes of 199 late-stage cancer patients treated at Envita Medical Centers over a two-year period. Compared to standard of care and palliative chemotherapy, Envita’s treatment demonstrated a remarkable 35-fold improvement in overall response rates (Figure 1). Moreover, 88% of the patients, the majority presenting with Stage 3 or 4 cancer, experienced a 43-fold improvement in quality of life with minimal side effects, as compared to standard of care chemotherapy and palliative care. This revolutionary success is attributed to Envita’s personalized therapeutic algorithms, which incorporate customized immunotherapy. Envita’s precision care approach has also achieved a 100% better response rate compared to over 65 global chemotherapy clinical trials with more than 2700 patients. The results from this study suggest that a wider utilization of Envita’s personalized approach can significantly benefit patients with late-stage and refractory cancer.

Residential short-term electric load forecasting is essential in modern decentralized power *** forecasting methods mostly rely on neural networks and require access to private and sensitive electric load data for model *** neural network training aggregates all data on a centralized server to train one global ***,the aggregation of user data introduces security and data privacy *** contrast,this study investigates the modern neural network training methods of federated learning and model personalization as potential solutions to security and data privacy *** an extensive simulation approach,the investigated methods are compared to the conventional centralized method and a pre-trained baseline predictor to compare their respective *** study identifies that the underlying data structure of electric load data has a significant influence on the loss of a *** therefore conclude that a comparison of loss distributions will in fact be considered a comparison of data structures,rather than a comparison of the model *** an alternative method of comparison of loss values,this study develops the"differential comparison".The method allows for the isolated comparison of model loss differences by only comparing the losses of two models generated by the same data sample to build a distribution of *** differential comparison method was then used to identify model personalization as the best performing model training method for load forecasting among all analyzed methods,with a superior performance in 59.1%of all cases.
