Phylogenetic analysis and protective effects of thymol and its chromatographic fractions from a novel wild mushroom in combating oxidative stress

Mushrooms are good sources of phytochemicals that have antioxidant and anti-proliferative *** study identifi ed a unique isoform of 18S rRNA gene(864 bp)from a novel wild mushroom(SMK-1)(GenBank accession number:SUB3267363).Thin layer chromatographic(TLC)profiling of the methanolic extract of the dried mushroom fruiting bodies of SMK-1 revealed the presence of phenolic and fl avonoid fractions with retention factor(Rf)values of 0.955 and 0.927 *** GC/MS chromatograms of the SMK-1 methanolic extract identifi ed the main bioactive compound was phenol,5-methyl-2-(1-methylethyl)(74.00%)(thymol).The radical scavenging activity for the fl avonoid fraction was greater than the phenolic fractions(Rf–phenolics fractions>Rf–fl avonoid fractions)with the antioxidant activity more than that of standard ascorbic ***,the phenolic and flavonoid fractions of SMK-1 expressed cytotoxic effects in HeLa cells with IC50 values ranging from 5μg/mL to 80μg/mL in a dose-dependent *** present research highlights the presence of high thymol concentration in a novel wild mushroom that has antioxidant and anti-poliferative potential with therapeutic benefi *** application of thymol natural products from novel mushroom SMK-1 as nutrition supplements could inhibit oxidative stress triggered by numerous pathologies that may pave the way to develop a new therapeutic natural drug.

AIM:To evaluate the antioxidant and α-amylase inhibition potential of phenolic compounds in the extracts of Indian ***:Phenolic compounds were extracted from Indian honey through column *** antioxidant poten-tial of extracted phenolic compounds was measured by two different biochemical assays:ferric reducing antioxidant power(FRAP) assay and scavenging activity on 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH) ***,α-amylase inhibition assay of phenolic compounds of honey was also ***:The scavenging inhibition rate varied from 86.8% to 78.6% from the highest(6 mg·mL-1) to the lowest(1.5 mg·mL-1) concentration,whereas,reducing power assay varied from 0.89 Abs to 0.19 Abs from the highest to the lowest *** hydroxytoluene(BHT) was used as reference compound for antioxidant assays.α-amylase inhi-bition assay is reported from the phenolic honey extracts for the first *** inhibition rate for α-amylase varied from 88.8% to 30.5% from the highest(20 μg·mL-1) to the lowest concentration(4 μg·mL-1).CONCLUSION:Honey phenolic extract possessed antioxidant and α-amylase inhibition activity,thus increasing its potential therapeutic property.

This article reviews the most recent advances in the development of flexible substrates used as surface-enhanced Ra-man scattering(SERS)platforms for detecting several hazardous materials(e.g.,explosives,pesticides,drugs,and dyes).Different flexible platforms such as papers/filter papers,fabrics,polymer nanofibers,and cellulose fibers have been investigated over the last few years and their SERS efficacies have been *** start with an introduction of the importance of hazardous materials trace detection followed by a summary of different SERS methodologies with par-ticular attention on flexible substrates and their advantages over the nanostructures and nanoparticle-based solid/hybrid *** potential of flexible SERS substrates,in conjunction with a simple portable Raman spectrometer,is the power to enable practical/on-field/point of interest applications primarily because of their low-cost and easy sampling.

Effects of lifestyle modification on liver enzyme and Fibroscan in Indian patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Background and aims:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is remarkably increasing in developing countries like India,in parallel with the increasing incidence of *** modification is a recommended treatment for *** most of the previous studies,improvement after lifestyle modification was assessed by liver fibrosis through liver biopsy,but we cannot do a serial liver biopsy in every NAFLD *** fibrosis can also be assessed by fibroscan non-invasively in *** study was designed to evaluate the effect of lifestyle modification on liver enzymes and Fibroscan values in a population with ***:Initially,50 NAFLD patients were included in this prospective follow-up study;however,after 6 months of lifestyle modification,only 39 participants were *** both the first and second consultations,Fibroscan was carried *** participants underwent a careful interview,anthropometry measurements and radiological and biochemical tests during every ***:After 6 months of lifestyle modification,Fibroscan values improved significantly(8.3160.11kPa vs 7.8760.12kPa,p¼0.009).Alanine aminotransferase(ALT)values also showed improvement during the second consultation(97.2562.62 U/L vs 66.6963.95 U/L,p<0.001).Conclusion:Measured by Fibroscan and liver enzymes,it has been found that lifestyle modification is an effective therapy to downgrade hepatic injury in NAFLD *** Fibroscan can be used to assess the treatment response in NAFLD patients due to its non-invasive nature.

The Clouds and the Earth's Radiant Energy System program,which uses the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(CM),has been updated with the launch of new satellites and the availability of newly upgraded radiation *** spatial and temporal variability of daily averaged synoptic 1-degree CM version 3(CMv3)(old)and version 4(CMv4)(new)downwelling shortwave(QS)and longwave radiation(QL)data in the global tropical oceans spanning 30°S-30°N from 2000 to 2017 is *** in situ data from the Global Tropical Moored Buoy Array were used to validate the CM data from 2000 to *** compared to CMv3,both QS and QL in CMv4 show significant improvements in bias,root-mean-square error,and standard ***,a long-term trend analysis shows that QS has been increasing by 1 W m^(−2) per year in the Southern *** contrast,the Northern Hemisphere has a−0.7 W m^(−2) annual decreasing *** and QL exhibit similar spatial trend ***,in the Indian Ocean,Indo-Pacific warm pool region,and Southern Hemisphere,QL spatial patterns in CMv3 and CMv4 differ with an opposite trend(0.5 W m^(−2)).These annual trends in QS and QL could cause the sea surface temperature to change by−0.2 to 0.3℃per year in the tropical *** results stress the importance of accurate radiative flux data,and CMv4 can be an alternative to reanalysis or other model-simulated data.

Geographically distributed hybrid testing & collaboration between geotechnical centrifuge and structures laboratories

Distributed Hybrid Testing（DHT） is an experimental technique designed to capitalise on advances in modern networking infrastructure to overcome traditional laboratory capacity limitations. By coupling the heterogeneous test apparatus and computational resources of geographically distributed laboratories, DHT provides the means to take on complex, multi-disciplinary challenges with new forms of communication and collaboration. To introduce the opportunity and practicability afforded by DHT, here an exemplar multi-site test is addressed in which a dedicated fibre network and suite of custom software is used to connect the geotechnical centrifuge at the University of Cambridge with a variety of structural dynamics loading apparatus at the University of Oxford and the University of Bristol. While centrifuge time-scaling prevents real-time rates of loading in this test, such experiments may be used to gain valuable insights into physical phenomena, test procedure and accuracy. These and other related experiments have led to the development of the real-time DHT technique and the creation of a flexible framework that aims to facilitate future distributed tests within the UK and beyond. As a further example, a real-time DHT experiment between structural labs using this framework for testing across the Internet is also presented.

In this study, alumina, zirconia, manganese oxide/alumina, and manganese oxide/zirconia have been investigated for their catalytic activity in the condensation reaction between o-phenylenediamine and an aldehyde or a ketone to synthesise 2-substituted benzimidazoles and 1,5-disubstituted benzodiazepines respectively. Surface area, surface acidity, and morphology of the catalysts have been analysed and correlated with their catalytic activity. The isolated yields of 2-substituted benzimidazoles and 1,5-disubstituted benzodiazepines are in the range of 30% to 95%. A good correlation between the amount of surface acid sites as well as the surface morphology of the catalysts and the catalytic activity has been observed. This method has been found to be simple and economical. The solid supports could be regenerated and reused without much loss in their activity. Further, the solid supports have been also found to be effective as general catalysts in the condensation of o-phenylenediamine with other substituted aldehydes and ketones.

Data fusion is one of the challenging issues,the healthcare sector is facing in the recent *** diagnosis from digital imagery and treatment are deemed to be the right *** Haemorrhage(ICH),a condition characterized by injury of blood vessels in brain tissues,is one of the important reasons for *** generated by X-rays and Computed Tomography(CT)are widely used for estimating the size and location of *** use manual planimetry,a time-consuming process for segmenting CT scan *** Learning(DL)is the most preferred method to increase the efficiency of diagnosing *** this paper,the researcher presents a unique multi-modal data fusion-based feature extraction technique with Deep Learning(DL)model,abbreviated as FFE-DL for Intracranial Haemorrhage Detection and Classification,also known as *** proposed FFEDL-ICH model has four stages namely,preprocessing,image segmentation,feature extraction,and *** input image is first preprocessed using the Gaussian Filtering(GF)technique to remove ***,the Density-based Fuzzy C-Means(DFCM)algorithm is used to segment the ***,the Fusion-based Feature Extraction model is implemented with handcrafted feature(Local Binary Patterns)and deep features(Residual Network-152)to extract useful ***,Deep Neural Network(DNN)is implemented as a classification technique to differentiate multiple classes of *** researchers,in the current study,used benchmark Intracranial Haemorrhage dataset and simulated the FFEDL-ICH model to assess its diagnostic *** findings of the study revealed that the proposed FFEDL-ICH model has the ability to outperform existing models as there is a significant improvement in its *** future researches,the researcher recommends the performance improvement of FFEDL-ICH model using learning rate scheduling techniques for DNN.
