Autotomy has evolved independently several times in different animal *** frequently involves immediate functional costs,so regeneration evolved in many instances to restore the functionality of that body *** autotomy is a widespread antipredator strategy in lizards,although it may affect energy storage,locomotion dynamics,or survival in future encounters with ***,we assessed the effect of tail loss on the locomotor performance of wall lizards(Podarcis muralis),as well as the recovery of locomotor functionality of lizards with regenerated tails,and the movement dynamics of shed tails that were either intact or having regenerated *** loss had no effect on locomotion over unhindered spaces,possibly due to compensation between a negative effect on the stride of front limbs,and a positive effect of losing mass and friction *** found a clear negative impact of tail loss on locomotion in spaces with interspersed obstacles,in which tailed lizards jumped larger distances when leaving the ***,lizards that used the tail to push off the ground were able to approach the obstacles from further,so that the tail seemed to be useful when used during *** fully restores lizard’s locomotor capacities,but tail antipredator value,as indicated by the intensity of post-autotomic movements,is only partially *** these results,we propose that,together with the recovery of post-autotomy antipredator capacities,the restoration of the organismal locomotor performance may have been an important,yet frequently neglected factor in the evolution of lizard’s regeneration ability.

Limestones are generally vulnerable to various weathering effects, hence, protection and consolidation of them is necessary. Locally available limestones of Northern Cyprus have been used in both historical buildings dated back to the 16th century for conservation applications and new buildings mostly as a cladding material. However, certain decay patterns exist on these stones. In the current study, the service life of Cyprus stones was inspected. Alkoxysilane-based consolidation and protection treatments were applied on new quarried stones to enhance the stone properties and aged stones to conserve and protect the architectural heritage. Service life assessment was performed by applying accelerated aging tests on both new and aged stones before and after treatments. The treatments improved the physical, mechanical and durability properties of the stones in terms of unchanging the water vapor diffusion resistance factor, decreasing the porosity and the water absorption ratio, increasing the ultrasound pulse velocity, the compressive and the flexural strengths, and improving the resistance of the stones against wetting-drying, freeze-thaw, salt crystallization and SO2 vapour effects. The combination of consolidation and protection treatment (K2) was more efficient on the properties of the stones compared to only protection treatment (K1) due to the better penetration capacity, higher decreasing ratio of the porosity, and higher improvement of the physical, mechanical and durability proper-ties. The treatments also improved the properties of the aged stones;thus, it may be inferred that treatment would benefit the conservation of historical buildings.

AIM: To compare and evaluate the clinical outcomes of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty(DALK) and excimer laser assisted anterior lamellar keratoplasty(ELLK) in eyes with ***: In this study, 57 eyes of 56 patients operated between 2013 to 2017 were included. Thirty-one eyes underwent big-bubble DALK and twenty-six eyes underwent ELLK. Preoperative and at control visits complete ophthalmic examination was performed. RESULTS: The mean patient age at the time of DALK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 21±5.4 mo. The mean patient age at the time of ELLK surgery was 27 y and mean follow-up period was 40±18 mo. Mean best spectacle corrected visual acuity(BSCVA) at postoperative period was significantly higher for DALK group(0.66±0.11) versus ELLK group(0.4±0.2)(Pbrane microperforation was occurred in 7 patients in DALK group versus in 1 patient in ELLK group. In 4 eyes, interface irregularity was developed in ELLK group. None of the patients in follow-up had graft rejection in both ***: In ELLK group, complication rate is lower, the surgical technique is simpler, faster and safer and also ELLK requires less experience with respect to DALK. Further, DALK can be performed unless satisfactory visual acuity is achieved after ELLK.

Objective:To prepare and characterize polycaprolactone(PCL)nanoparticles loaded with sonicator fragmented(SLA)and freeze-thaw Leishmania antigens(FTLA)and to investigate the in vitro immunogenicity of antigen-encapsulated nanoparticles with calcium phosphate ***:The water/oil/water binary emulsion solvent evaporation method was used to synthesize antigen-loaded PCL *** were characterized by scanning electron microscopy and zeta potential *** cytotoxicity in J774 macrophages in vitro was determined by MTT *** addition,the amount of nitric oxide and the level of cytokines produced by macrophages were determined by Griess reaction and ELISA method,*** protective effect of the developed formulations was evaluated by determining the infection index percentage in macrophages infected with Leishmania ***:Compared to the control group,SLA PCL and FTLA PCL nanoparticles with calcium phosphate adjuvant induced a 6-and 7-fold increase in nitric oxide,***,the vaccine formulations promoted the production of IFN-γand *** PCL and FTLA PCL nanoparticles combined with calcium phosphate adjuvant caused an approximately 13-and 11-fold reduction in infection index,respectively,compared to the control ***:The encapsulation of antigens obtained by both sonication and freeze-thawing into PCL nanoparticles and the formulations with calcium phosphate adjuvant show strong in vitro immune stimulating ***,PCL-based antigen delivery systems and calcium phosphate adjuvant are recommended as a potential vaccine candidate against leishmaniasis.

Reliable estimation of stature from skeletal remains will continue to play an important role in assessing a variety of forensic anthropological and archaeological *** the present study,we studied and collated data on the morphometry of the tibia as well as analyzing its segment that shows significant correlation with its maximum length and consequently formulating linear regression equations for estimating maximum tibia length(MTL)which is specific for the Nigeria population.A total number of 68 intact adult human tibia bones were used(35 right and 33 left).Thirteen anthropometric parameters were measured including the *** mean differences between right and left bones of all the measured parameter were not statistically significant except for the mean shaft *** correlation coefficient between MTL and the bicondylar tibial width(BTW),anterior‑posterior intercondylar diameter(APID),anterior‑posterior diameter of medial condyle(APDMC),midshaft transverse diameter(MSTD),and distal articular surface length(DASL)were seen to be significant(Pmation of MTL from these parameters for the right tibia were also significant(Pmate the maximum length of the right tibia from the BTW,APID,APDMC,MSTD,and DASL with relative *** study may be useful for forensic investigations for the identification of the remains of unknown bodies in a Nigerian population.

Advanced Cycles Large-Scale Aero-Derivative Gas Turbines: Performance Comparison

This paper aims at carrying out comparative performance analysis of simple and advanced cycles large-scale aero-derivative industrial gas turbines derived from aircraft turbofan engines. The investigation involves technical performances of three large-scale aero-derivative engine cycles based on existing and projected cycles for applications in land based power generation and Combined-Heat-and-Power (CHP). Preliminary design and performance simulation were implemented of a simple cycle (baseline) three-spool 100 MW aero-derivative engine model, intercooled and intercooled/recuperated engine cycles of the same 100 MW nominal power rating. In the analysis, design point and off-design performances of the engine models were established. The results indicate that to a large extent, the advanced engine cycles showed superior performance in terms of thermal efficiency, and fuel flow. In numerical terms, thermal efficiencies of intercooled engine cycle, and intercooled/recuperated engine cycles, over the simple cycle at design point increased by 2.42% and 0.94% respectively, whereas heat rates of these cycles over simple cycle at design point decreased by 2.37% and 0.93% respectively. It is worthy of note that for large-scale aero-derivative gas turbines having power rating of 100 MW and above, intercooled cycle would consume less fuel than intercooled-recuperated and simple cycles. This finding would actually aid good choice of cycle option for large-scale aero-derivative gas turbine designers, manufacturers and users.

The trackway of a swimming theropod (ichnogenus Characichnos) is reported from the Lower Cretaceous Feitianshan Formation of Sichuan, China. These swim tracks help confirm that non-avian theropods were capable of forging moderately deep bodies of water. The trackway occurs on the same surface as a typical walking trackway of a sauropod (ichnogenus Brontopodus). Both occurrences are the first reported from the Cretaceous of Sichuan, and the swim tracks are the first well-preserved example of a Characichnos trackway from China. Additionally, a theropod walking trackway and several ornithopod walking trackways (similar to the ichnogenus Caririchnium) occur in the same horizon. The ornithopod trackways show a parallel orientation, suggesting gregarious behavior of the trackmakers, which may have been iguanodontiforms and/or hadrosauriforms. The co-occurrence of theropod swim tracks and theropod walking tracks suggests a fluctuation of water depth within a distinct time span.

Structural and Spectral (IR, NMR and UV/Visible) Properties of Newly Designed Boronic Acid Derivatives Containing DO3A Sensitive to Uranyl Ion: A DFT and TD-DFT Study

In this study, the structural, electronic and optical properties of DO3A-based boronic acid derivates with and without UO22+ ion are studied by density functional calculations with M062X/6 - 31 g + (d) method, in aqueous media. The quantum chemical properties such as EHOMO, ELUMO, the energy gap (ΔE), chemical potential (μ), hardness (η) are also performed. The theoretical essential UV-Vis. bands of DO3A-UO2(VI)-APB-o are at 392 and 687 nm. DO3A-UO2 (VI)-ABB-o structure has two main bands at 393 and 650 nm. In general, the bathochromic shift occurs and the HOMO-LUMO energy gap decreases to about 2 eV, by binding UO22+ ion in three different media. The notable shifts in NMR spectrums have been found on α-carbon of carbonyl group, ring carbons and amide protons. In IR-spectrums, the prominent peaks belong to BO-H and N-H of amide stretching vibrations of calculated structures.
