Development of efficient and accurate skeletal mechanisms for hydrocarbon fuels and kerosene surrogate

In this paper,the methodology of the directed relation graph with error propagation and sensitivity analysis（DRGEPSA）,proposed by niemeyer et al.（Combust Flame 157：1760-1770.2010）.and its differences to the original directed relation graph method are *** DRGEPSA,the detailed mechanism of ethylene containing 71 species and 395 reaction steps is reduced to several skeletal mechanisms with different error *** 25-species and 131-step mechanism and the 24-species and115-step mechanism are found to be accurate for the predictions of ignition delay time and laminar flame *** further reduction leads to a smaller skeletal mechanism with 19 species and 68 steps,it is no longer able to represent the correct reaction *** the DRGEPSA method,a detailed mechanism for n-dodecane considering low-temperature chemistry and containing 2115 species and8157 steps is reduced to a much smaller mechanism with249 species and 910 steps while retaining good *** considering only high-temperature（higher than 1000 K）applications,the detailed mechanism can be simplified to even smaller mechanisms with 65 species and 340 steps or48 species and 220 ***,a detailed mechanism for a kerosene surrogate having 207 species and 1592 steps is reduced with various error thresholds and the results show that the 72-species and 429-step mechanism and the66-species and 392-step mechanism are capable of predicting correct combustion properties compared to those of the detailed *** is well recognized that kinetic mechanisms can be effectively used in computations only after they are reduced to an acceptable size level for computation capacity and at the same time retaining ***,the skeletal mechanisms generated from the present work are expected to be useful for the application of kinetic mechanisms of hydrocarbons to numerical simulations of turbulent or supersonic combustion.

Soil ecosystem changes by vegetation on old-field sites over five decades in the Brazilian Atlantic forest

Vegetation types alter soil ecosystems by changing soil fauna community activities and soil physi-cal-chemical ***,it is unclear how tree species(natural forest,native and exotic tree plantations)promote changes in the soil ecosystem,and if these changes alter functional groups of soil fauna and ecosystem *** determine the effects of five decades of old-field veg-etation on soil ecosystems in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest,field sampling of three ecosystems(exotic tree species Pinus elliottii ***,endangered tree species Arau-caria angustifolia(Bertol.)Kuntze plantation,and a natural ecosystem)were carried out,as well using bait-lamina tests and bioassays with collembolans,earthworms and seeds of Lactuca sativa *** sampling evaluated the soil fauna community and soil physical-chemical *** bait-lamina test in situ was carried out for 14-days to deter-mine fauna feeding activity,and the bioassays evaluated the reproduction of Folsomia candida,the avoidance of Eisenia andrei,and germination of *** in the soil from each *** results are:(1)vegetation type altered the soil fauna community composition;(2)soil fauna feeding was reduced in the plantations compared to the natural eco-system;(3)a physical barrier was created by recalcitrant litter that compromised fauna community structure and seed bank germination in situ;and,(4)changes in soil physical-chemical properties promoted decomposers.

Palynostratigraphy of the Zorritas Formation, Antofagasta region, Chile： Insights on the Devonian]Carboniferous boundary in western Gondwana

The Middle Member of the Zorritas Formation in the Antofagasta region of northern Chile, yielded terrestrial and marine palynomorph assemblages which span the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary. The assemblages show a clear predominance of terrestrial palynomorphs with 70 miospore species, 18 marine phytoplankton species, two non-marine algae and one chitinozoan species, all coming from 15 productive levels. Palynomorphs are poorly preserved and most of them are reworked. Three palyno- logical associations are recognized based on miospores. These are assigned to the Tournaisian-Visean, Tournaisian and probable latest Famennian. Age assignments are discussed in the frame of the spore zonal schemes established for Euramerica and western Gondwana. The stratigraphical distribution of spores allows the identification of the probable position of the Devonian/Carboniferous boundary within the Zorritas Formation. This system boundary is proposed for the first time in Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks of northern Chile. The presence of Gondwanan typical miospore species indicates affinities with this palaeocontinent even though the Tournaisian and Tournaisian-Viseao miospore associations sup- port the cosmopolitanism already suggested for the early Carboniferous flora. The significant number of reworked palynomorphs together with the sedimentological analysis of the studied sections, suggest that these deposits were severely impacted by the climatic change and major sea level fluctuations. Similar conditions were recorded in coeval western Gondwana basins.

Peptide amphiphiles with well-organized secondary structure are an important family of molecules that are known to assemble into a variety of *** this work,we present three guanidiniocarbonylpyrrole(GCP)containing peptide amphiphiles,which show versatile morphology and secondary structure changes as a result of different chain lengths and in different concentration *** random coil conformation,α-helix,andβ-sheet are obtained for peptide 1,peptide 2,and peptide 3,respectively under neutral aqueous ***,all peptide amphiphiles can aggregate to form nanoparticles at low ***,at high concentrations,peptide 1 selfassembles into left-ha nded twisted helical fibers,while longer bamboo-like mo rphology can be obse rved exclusively for peptide *** peptide 3,freshly prepared samples show uniform spherical morphology,whereas an obvious morphological transition from original nanoparticles to disordered fibers was realized after incubating for one *** fascinating morphology changes were determined by the combination of circular dichroism,dynamic light scattering,transmission electron microscopy,atomic force microscopy,and theoretical calculations.

Finite Line-transitive Linear Spaces:Theory and Search Strategies

The paper summarises existing theory and classifications for finite line-transitive linear spaces, develops the theory further, and organises it in a way that enables its effective application. The starting point is a theorem of Camina and the fifth author that identifies three kinds of line-transitive automorphism groups of linear spaces. In two of these cases the group may be imprimitive on points, that is, the group leaves invariant a nontrivial partition of the point set. In the first of these cases the group is almost simple with point-transitive simple socle, and may or may not be point-primitive, while in the second case the group has a non-trivial point-intransitive normal subgroup and hence is definitely point-imprimitive. The theory presented here focuses on point-imprimitive groups. As a non-trivial application a classification is given of the point-imprimitive, line-transitive groups, and the corresponding linear spaces, for which the greatest common divisor gcd（k, v - 1） ≤ 8, where v is the number of points, and k is the line size. Motivation for this classification comes from a result of Weidong Fang and Huffing Li in 1993, that there are only finitely many non-trivial point-imprimitive, linetransitive linear spaces for a given value of gcd（k, v - 1）. The classification strengthens the classification by Camina and Mischke under the much stronger restriction k ≤ 8： no additional examples arise. The paper provides the backbone for future computer-based classifications of point-imprimitive, line- transitive linear spaces with small parameters. Several suggestions for further investigations are made.

The ATP-binding cassette transporters(ABC transporters)have been intensely studied over the past 50 years for their involvement in the multidrug resistance(MDR)phenotype,especially in *** are frequently overexpressed in both naive and post-treatment tumors,and hinder effective chemotherapy by reducing drug accumulation in cancer *** the last decade however,several studies have established that ABC transporters have additional,fundamental roles in tumor biology;there is strong evidence that these proteins are involved in transporting tumor-enhancing molecules and/or in protein-protein interactions that impact cancer aggressiveness,progression,and patient *** review highlights these studies in relation to some well-described cancer hallmarks,in an effort to re-emphasize the need for further investigation into the physiological functions of ABC transporters that are critical for tum or *** these new roles offers an opportunity to define new strategies and targets for therapy,which would include endogenous substrates or signaling pathways that regulate these proteins.
