Steel production causes a third of all industrial CO_(2) emissions due to the use of carbon-based substances as reductants for iron ores,making it a key driver of global ***,research efforts aim to replace these reductants with sustainably produced ***-based direct reduction(HyDR)is an attractive processing technology,given that direct reduction(DR)furnaces are routinely operated in the steel industry but with CH_(4) or CO as *** diffuses considerably faster through shaft-furnace pellet agglomerates than carbon-based ***,the net reduction kinetics in HyDR remains extremely sluggish for high-quantity steel production,and the hydrogen consumption exceeds the stoichiometrically required amount ***,the present study focused on the improved understanding of the influence of spatial gradients,morphology,and internal microstructures of ore pellets on reduction efficiency and metallization during *** this purpose,commercial DR pellets were investigated using synchrotron high-energy X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy in conjunction with electron backscatter diffraction and chemical *** the interplay of different phases with internal interfaces,free surfaces,and associated nucleation and growth mechanisms provides a basis for developing tailored ore pellets that are highly suited for a fast and efficient HyDR.

Heat management must be maintained within the mine working environment to minimize stress on equipment and personnel. The issue is a growing concern as mines continue to expand in size, depth and infrastructure. Heat management is a concern as it relates to both heat sensitive equipment and more importantly the health and safety of the workers found within the mine. Proper application of engineering protocols and work practice controls will have a direct impact on the health and safety of workers and increased productivity. Using continuous monitoring stations placed in strategic locations throughout the mine to capture the environmental conditions, various strategies can be used in the planning and prevention of potential hazard exposure. Economic analysis is used to select the most feasible strategy for heat stress control. This paper presents a step by step methodology that may be considered by ventilation specialists to effectively implement a heat management control system. A case study based on a detailed heat management assessment conducted for a potash mine in Saskatchewan, Canada is presented.

Shifts in hydrological regimes alter river flow rates and flood pulses, decrease environmental heterogeneity and the floristic-structural complexity of associated plant communities. We tested the hypothesis that drought events affect plant community composition and structure at a small-scale within a riparian fragment towards a reduction in floristic-structural complexity. The tree community was sampled in three habitats (wet, transitional and dry) and monitored in seven inventories carried out between 1991 and 2018. Hydrological variations were evaluated through annual rainfalls, river flow rates and water level data. The species richness and the detrended correspondence analysis axes were used to characterise the temporal modifications in floristic composition. Community structure was described in terms of biomass: accumulated, growth of survivors, mortality and recruitment. Generalised linear mixed models were fitted to evaluate the effects of time and environment in community. It was concluded that the climate has become drier in recent years due to declining precipitation that has affected flow rates and water levels. The floristic-structural complexity of the study fragment was maintained during the monitoring period. However, prolonged and extreme drought events displayed the potential to impact floristic-structural patterns.

Isabel grape(IG)products have high contents of phenolic compounds and fiber recognized for their positive impacts on microorganisms associated with health benefits to *** study evaluated the effects of goat yogurts formulated with ingredients from IG integral valorization on the growth and metabolism of different probiotic strains,as well as on the population of selected bacterial groups and metabolic activity of human colonic microbiota in *** yogurts with IG ingredients(IGI)stimulated the growth of tested Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium probiotic strains during a 48-h cultivation,as well as decreased the pH values and enhanced the organic acid *** yogurts with IGI increased the population of Lactobacillus *** Bifidobacterium *** a 24-h in vitro colonic fermentation.A stable Firmicutes:Bacteroidetes ratio close to 1 was found in media with goat yogurt formulations during the colonic fermentation,being similar to the effect caused by *** yogurt formulations with IGI caused increased production of short-chain fatty acids and sugar consumption during colonic *** yogurts with IGI should be a valuable strategy for development of novel added-value foods with beneficial effects on gut microbiota and human health.

This study aimed to assess the potential of in-situ measured soil and vegetation characteristics in landslide susceptibility ***,data for eight independent variables,i.e.,soil moisture content,soil organic content,compaction of soil(soil toughness),plant root strength,crop biomass,tree diameter at knee height,Shannon Wiener Index(SWI)for trees and herbs was assembled from field tests at two historic landslide locations:Aranayaka and Kurukudegama,Sri *** economical,finer resolution database was obtained as the field tests were not *** logistic regression(LR)analysis showed that soil moisture content,compaction of soil,SWI for trees and herbs were statistically significant at Pdependent variables in the LR *** Operating Characteristics(ROC)curve and Confusion Metrix(CM)methods were used to validate the *** ROC analysis,areas under the curve of Success Rate Curve and Prediction Rate Curve were 84.5% and 96.6%,respectively,demonstrating the model’s excellent compatibility and *** to the CM,the model demonstrated a 79.6% accuracy,63.6% precision,100% recall,and a F-measure of 77.8%.The model coefficients revealed that the vegetation cover has a more significant contribution to landslide susceptibility than soil ***,the susceptibility map,which was then classified as low,medium,and highly susceptible areas based on the natural breaks(Jenks)method,was generated using geographical information systems(GIS)*** the historic landslide locations fell into the high susceptibility ***,validation of the model and inspection of the susceptibility map indicated that the in-situ soil and vegetation characteristics used in the model could be employed to demarcate historical landslide patches and identify landslide susceptibl
