BACKGROUND Acute decompensation(AD)of cirrhosis is related to systemic inflammation and elevated circulating *** this context,biomarkers of inflammation,such as calprotectin,may be of prognostic *** To evaluate serum calprotectin levels in patients hospitalized for complications of *** This is a prospective cohort study that included 200 subjects hospitalized for complications of cirrhosis,20 outpatients with stable cirrhosis,and 20 healthy *** calprotectin was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbant *** Calprotectin levels were higher among groups with cirrhosis when compared to healthy *** median calprotectin was related to Child-Pugh C,ascites,and hepatic *** calprotectin was related to acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)and infection in the bivariate,but not in multivariate *** was not associated with survival among patients with ACLF;however,in patients with AD without ACLF,higher calprotectin was associated with a lower 30-d survival,even after adjustment for chronic liver failure-consortium(CLIF-C)AD score.A high-risk group(CLIF-C AD score≥60 and calprotectin≥580 ng/mL)was identified,which had a 30-d survival(27.3%)similar to that of patients with grade 3 ACLF(23.3%).CONCLUSION Serum calprotectin is associated with prognosis in patients with AD without ACLF and may be useful in clinical practice to early identify patients with a very low short-term survival.

Soil texture prediction through stratification of a regional soil spectral library

The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection has been a major challenge to be faced in recent *** adults suffered the highest morbidity and mortality rates of coronavirus disease 2019,children were thought to be exclusively asymptomatic or to present with mild ***,around April 2020,there was an outbreak of a new clinical syndrome related to SARS-CoV-2 in children-multisystemic inflam-matory syndrome in children(MIS-C)-which comprises a severe and uncon-trolled hyperinflammatory response with multiorgan *** Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers a suspected case of MIS-C an individual agedmatory markers levels,and evidence of clinically severe illness,with multisystem(>2)organ involvement,no alternative plausible diagnoses,and positive for recent SARS-CoV-2 *** its severity,there are no definitive disease management guidelines for this ***,the complex pathogenesis of MIS-C is still not completely understood,although it seems to rely upon immune ***,in this study,we aim to bring together current evidence regarding the pathogenic mechanisms of MIS-C,clinical picture and management,in order to provide insights for clinical practice and implications for future research directions.

Sulfur mass-independent fractionation(S-MIF)preserved in Archean sedimentary pyrite is interpreted to reflect atmospheric *** ranges in Δ^(33)S that expanded into larger fractionations leading up to the Great Oxygenation Event(GOE;2.45–2.2 Ga)are disproportionately represented by sequences from the Kaapvaal and Pilbara *** patterns of S-MIF attenuation and enhancement may differ from the timing and magnitude of minor sulfur isotope fractionations reported from other cratons,thus obscuring local for global sulfur cycling *** expanding the Δ^(33)S record to include the relatively underrepresented São Francisco Craton in Brazil,we suggest that marine biogeochemistry affected S-MIF preservation prior to the *** an early Neoarchean sequence(2763–2730 ma)from the Rio das Velhas Greenstone Belt,we propose that low δ^(13)Corg(mation reflect the marine diagenetic process of anaerobic methane *** overlying black shale(TOC up to 7.8%)with higher δ^(13)Corg(-33.4‰to-19.2‰)and expanded Δ^(33)S(2.3‰±0.8‰),recorded oxidative sulfur cycling that resulted in enhance preservation of S-MIF input from atmospheric sources of elemental *** sequence culminates in a metasandstone,where concomitant changes to more uniform δCorg(-30‰to--25‰),potentially associated with the RuBisCO I enzyme,and near-zero Δ^(33)S(-0.04‰to 0.38‰)is mainly interpreted as evidence for local oxygen *** placed in the context of other sequences worldwide,the Rio das Velhas helps differentiate the influences of global atmospheric chemistry and local marine diagenesis in Archean biogeochemical *** data suggest that prokaryotic sulfur,iron,and methane cycles might have an underestimated role in pre-GOE sulfur minor isotope records.

Crohn’s Disease(CD)is an Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is characterized by an immune-mediated *** etiology results from the interaction between genetic,enviromental and microbial *** pathophysiology,it involves high levels of interleukin(IL)-12,IL-17,and Th1 profile,along with loss of tolerance mechanisms,an increase in pro-inflammatory interleukins,beyond the possibility to affect any part of the gastrointestinal *** symptoms include abdominal pain,chronic diarrhea,weight loss,anorexia,and fatigue,as well as blood in the stool or ***,conditions comprising musculoskeletal,cutaneous,ocular,hepatic,and hematological alterations may be associated with this scenario and extra-intestinal presentation,such as erythema nodosum,anterior uveitis,osteoporosis,and arthritis can also ***,clinical history,exams as fecal calprotectin,ileocolonocopy,and capsule endoscopy can be performed in the diagnosis investigation,along with treatments to induce and maintain *** this sense,anti-inflammatory drugs,such as corticosteroids,immunomodulators,and biological agents,as well as surgery and non-pharmacological interventions plays a role in its *** aim of this review is to bring more current evidence to clinical management of CD,as well as to briefly discuss aspects of its pathophysiology,surveillance,and associated disorders.

With the expansion of eucalyptus crops to areas with severe water limitations,physiological studies involving eucalyptus clones to identify those that are tolerant to water stress become *** objective of this study was to assess morphological and physiological responses by eucalyptus clones subjected to drought stress and *** experiment consisted of three eucalyptus clones:VC865,I224 and I144 and two water regimes:control and water stress followed by rehydration,with six *** water potential,gas exchange,maximum quantum efficiency of photo systemⅡand plant height and stem diameter were evaluated under drought stress and ***6 d of rehydration,the number of leaves,leaf area and dry mass of root,leaf,stem and their total were *** clones showed intense reduction of gas exchange during the drought stress period,and only VC865 and 1144 showed rapid recovery with 3 d of *** 1224 showed greater reduction in height,stem diameter,number of leaves,water potential at midday(Ψ_(w)_(Midday)),and maximum quantum efficiency of photosystemⅡ(F_(v)/F_(m)).Clones VC865and T144 showed lower reductions inΨ_(wMidday)and F_(v)/F_(m) under ***865 had lower reductions in leaf number,leaf area and higher leaf dry mass,while clone I144 had higher height and lower reduction in root dry mass *** these clones showed higher water use efficiency with 3d of *** different phenotypic plasticities gave the clones VC865 and 1144 efficient mechanisms of acclimatization to stress and more drought tolerance,enhancing their greater capacity for recovery after stress,which allowed lower dry mass *** 1224,however,was more susceptible to drought stress,undergoing greater physiological damage with only partial recovery during rehydration.
