Nickel Titanium alloy (Nitinol) is characterized by its good mechanical properties, good damping properties in addition to its distinctive shape-memory effect and superelasticity effect besides its great bio-mechanical compatibility and corrosion resistance. These properties have empowered its applications, particularly within the bio-medical and aerospace industry. Despite these exceptional properties, the manufacturing of Nitinol by conventional methods is exceptionally troublesome and costly and consequently must be inspected. Therefore, additive manufacturing specifically laser-based ones were used recently. In this research, the effect of processing parameters of laser cladding/laser direct deposition on Nitinol’s Microstructure, Hardness and Clad Dimensions was evaluated. Systematic characterization of Nitinol samples was done utilizing Optical Microscopy and Vickers hardness tester. Samples of Nitinol were synthesized with different processing parameters using laser cladding and its properties were investigated and compared to one another to get the optimum processing parameters to synthesize a near net shape, fully dense Nitinol component with reliable properties. The results showed that there’s a processing parameter window at which the alloy possesses its best mechanical and functional properties which were of Laser power of value 1.25 Kw, Scan speed of 1.5 m/min and powder deposition rate of 1.5/1.5 RPM, these conditions resulted in the formation of martensite phase which is responsible for its functional properties with 40% volume fraction and a hardness value of 598 HV.

Objective： New systemic therapies are needed to improve the prognosis of patients with advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma. The study was conducted to determine the efficacy and safety of viscum fraxini-2 in advanced Hepatocellular carcinoma. Methods： A phase II study with a two-stage design that enrolled a total of 120 patients with chemotherapy nai＇ve advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. The mistletoe preparation for the study is an aqueous injectable solution that contains one milliliter of viscum fraxini. Two ampoules of viscum fraxini were administered subcutaneously once weekly. Re- suits： Chronic hepatitis C virus infection was the predominant cause of liver disease （60%） in studied cases. According to the response evaluation criteria in solid tumors 24 patients （20%） achieved objective response （including 2 complete responses） and 40 patients （33.3%） achieved stable disease. The median progression free survival for all patients was 4 months （range 1-28 months; 95% CI 3.3：4.7 months）. The median overall survival for all patients was 8 months （range 1-28 months; 95% CI 6.3：9.7 months）. The median survival for patients who achieved responsive or stable disease was 16 months. The toxicity was generally mild and well tolerated, mainly in the form of local reaction and fever. There were no drug related discontinu- ation or toxic deaths. Conclusion： Viscum fraxini-2 is an effective, safe treatment for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Further randomized controlled trials are recommended.

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) especially type 2 is a major health problem and diabetic nephropathy is the main cause of end stage renal disease (ESRD). Renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is common in diabetic patients. Recent studies reported increased vulnerability of kidneys to I/R injury in diabetic rats. In view of the reported efficacy of incretin enhancer on I/R injury. Aim: This study was designed to assess the effect of sitaglipten on renal I/R in type 2 diabetes mellitus . Methods: Type 2 DM in rats were induced by administration of nicotinamide (230 mg/kg, i.p.), 15 min prior to the single dose of streptozotocin (65 mg/kg, i.p.). Renal I/R were performed in both diabetic and normal rats. Results: The lipid peroxidation, xanthine oxidase activity, and nitric oxide levels were significantly increased after I/R in diabetic rats compared to I/R in normal rats. Antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase were significantly reduced after I/R in diabetic rats compared to normal rats. Sitaglipten treatment significantly normalized these biochemical parameters compared to diabetic I/R rats. Serum TNF-α level and myeloperoxidase activity were also significantly normalized after administration of sitaglipten. Furthermore, treatment with sitaglipten (10 mcg/kg) had preserved the normal morphology of the kidney compared to I/R performed in diabetic rats. Conclusion: Sitaglipten protects exaggerated renal I/R injury in type 2 DM. These findings have major implication in the treatment of ischemic injury that is prone to develop in DM.

Propionic acid modified bagasse was used for the removal of reactive yellow 2 and reactive blue 4. The effects of pH, contact time, initial dye concentrations, adsorbent particle size and adsorbent dose on the adsorption of the two dyes were investigated. Additionally, the desorption process and intra-particle diffusion were studied. Acidic pH values were favorable for adsorption of both dyes. The equilibrium adsorption data were best fitted with the Freundlich isotherm for reactive yellow 2 and the Langmiur isotherm for reactive blue 4. The values of their corresponding constants were determined. The kinetic for dye adsorption is well described by a pseudo-first order kinetic model for the reactive yellow 2 and by pseudo-second order for the reactive blue 4. The investigation revealed that the hydroxyl groups of bagasse and the carboxylic group of propionic acid play a great role in the removal of both reactive dyes.

Due to randomness of wind generator＇s availability, power system planners have big concern on EEG （expected energy generation） and system reliability of power system with wind generators. This paper presents a methodology to evaluate the EEG as well as overall LOLP （loss of load probability）, which is an index for system reliability of multi-area interconnected systems with wind generators, as well as conventional fossil fuel based generating units. The proposed model is also capable of tracking the energy export incorporating the multi-state probability model for wind generator which output varies with time and season.

Acute or worsening heart failure is a common reason for hospitalization which carries a high mortality. Prompt diagnosis or exclusion of HF and its cause and precipitating factors can improve the quality and efficiency of care, shorten hospital stay, reduce readmission and improve prognosis. While the clinician remains central to reaching a clinical diagnosis of heart failure, the use of traditional and novel diagnostic technologies will improve the specificity and sensitivity of the diagnosis of heart failure diagnosis and provide insights into its pathophysiogical profile and help tailor therapy to individual patient need. Chest X-rays and electrocardiograms are generally available;echocardiograms less so. Novel technologies include both invasive and non-invasive methods to detect increases in intrathoracic fluid, pulmonary congestion, left ventricular filling pressures, cardiac output and vascular function. However, few of these technologies have been subjected to randomised controlled trials investigating their ability to improve patient management.

Pneumothorax in Children: Epidemiological Diagnostic and Evolutionary Aspects at the Albert Royer National Children’s Hospital in Dakar

Pneumothorax is defined by the presence of air between the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura. Most of the child’s pneumothorax is traumatic. The spontaneous pneumothorax (PS) of the child is rare, and often associated with a favoring factor. When it is large, it can affect the life expectancy. The objective of our study was to determine the epidemiological, diagnostic and evolutionary aspects of pneumothorax in children aged 0 to 15 years, hospitalized at the Albert Royer National Children’s Hospital in Dakar. This is a retrospective descriptive study of patient records followed at the Albert Royer National Children’s Hospital (CHNEAR) for the management of a pneumothorax during the period from 2020 to 2022. During our study, 15 patients were hospitalized for pneumothorax, with an average annual incidence of 7.5 cases per year. The sex ratio (H/F) was 2.03. The average age was 3.7 years. Chest pain was present in 27% of patients, dyspnea was found in 93%, and cough in 87% of patients. All patients underwent chest radiography and the location of the pneumothorax was predominant on the right in 60% of cases. Thoracic drainage was performed in 93.3% of patients associated with etiological treatment. The average length of hospitalization was 27.8 days with a cure rate of 86.7% and a recurrence rate of 13.3%.

Formaldehyde Exposure, Health Symptoms and Risk Assessment among Hospital Workers in malaysia

Formaldehyde is a chemical commonly used in hospitals as a tissue preservative;histopathology laboratory personnel are therefore among the workers most heavily exposed to formaldehyde. This study measured the formaldehyde exposure through ambient and personal air sampling, assessed the symptoms of poor health as well as estimating the health risk among hospital workers. We conducted a comparative cross-sectional study of both histopathology laboratory (exposed) and administration (nonexposed) workers in four hospitals in the Klang Valley, Selangor, malaysia. Ambient and personal exposure to formaldehyde was measured using the OSHA 52 and NIOSH 2541 methods, respectively. The 8-hr time-weighted-average formaldehyde concentration was higher in exposed areas (0.25 ± 0.11 ppm) than nonexposed areas (0.08 ± 0.02 ppm). Histopathology workers were exposed to between 140% and 480% higher concentrations of formaldehyde than administration workers. Personal exposure was highest during grossing tasks (0.797 ± 0.436 ppm). A total of 67% of the exposed workers exhibited the same ten health symptoms related to formaldehyde exposure, and 57% of the nonexposed workers reported similar symptoms at their current workplace. Notably, symptoms of eye irritation, headache, drowsiness, and chest tightness were significantly more prevalent (p maldehyde from air inhalation poses a potential risk of eye irritation among exposed workers. The cancer risk was not significant in both groups. Formaldehyde levels and symptoms of poor health were significantly higher among the exposed group. Exposure and risk could be minimised by strengthening control measures to improve indoor air quality in the workplace.

In a tropical ranch of animal production, which was divided by fire lines into 20 equal grazing paddocks of one mile square each, a grazing experiment was conducted as controlled rotational grazing with forty-five (45) cross-bred Sudanese improved Baggara cattle which were divided into four feeding systems (groups). A drop in condition scores of the farm cattle stock herd was treated during dry summer by supplementary feeding with four types of supplements to investigate the changes in average body weight changes, heart girth and condition scores, through dry summer, wet summer and winter seasons. The results showed that, animals of group three (G3) which supplemented with groundnut cake performed better in all body parameters under study when compared with group one (G1) and group two (G2) being supplemented with groundnut haulm, Stover respectively and group four (G4) which was kept under natural grazing as control group (Natural grazing alone) which reveals the worse body measurement traits performance under study. The effect of seasonal changes showed a significant difference (P tained better average body weight (162.53 Kg and 174.56 Kg respectively) than in groundnut haulm (in dry and wet summer -143.60 Kg and 163.50 Kg respectively), Stover supplements and natural grazing (controlled) groups. The results also showed that, the heart girth and condition score were significantly different (P mance in condition scores than other groups.
