Background Culex pipiens pallens andCulex pipiens quinquefasciatus are the dominant species ofCulex mosquitoes in China and important disease vectors. Long-term use of insecticides can cause mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel (vgsc) gene of mosquitoes, but little is known about the current status and evolutionary origins ofvgsc gene in different geographic populations. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the current status ofvgsc genes inCx. p. pallens andCx. p. quinquefasciatus in China and to investigate the evolutionary inheritance of neighboring downstream introns of thevgsc gene to determine the impact of insecticides on long-term *** Sampling was conducted from July to September 2021 in representative habitats of 22 provincial-level administrative divisions in China. Genomic DNA was extracted from 1308 mosquitoes, the IIS6 fragment of thevgsc gene on the nerve cell membrane was amplified using polymerase chain reaction, and the sequence was used to evaluate allele frequency and knockdown resistance (kdr) frequency. MEGA 11 was used to construct neighborjoining (NJ) tree. Cracks have consistently been a significant challenge limiting the development of additive ma.ufactured nickel-based *** is essential to investigate the location of cracks and their forming *** study extensively examines the impact of solidification process,microstructural evolution,and stress concentration on crack initiation during direct energy deposition(DED).The results emphasize that the crack forma.ion is significantly related to large-angle grain boundaries,rapid cooling *** caused by large-angle grain boundaries and a fast-cooling rate predominantly appear near the edge of the deposited *** cracks are more likely to form near the top of the deposited sample,due to the presence ofγ/γ'*** secondary dendritic arm and the carbides in the interdendritic regions can obstruct liquid flow during the final stage of solidification,which results in the forma.ion of solidification cracks and *** work paves the way to avoid cracks in nickel-based superalloys fabricated by DED,thereby enhancing the performa.ce of superalloys.

Background Treeline ecotones of Mediterranean ecoregions have been affected by the increasing intensity and severity of droughts. Even though the effect of droughts on forest dynamics has been widely documented, knowledge is relatively scarce of how extreme clima.e episodes affect the hydraulic structure and, therefore, the phys-iology of woody plants. The Mediterranean Andes have experienced an uninterrupted period of drought since 2010, including an extremely dry year in 2019 with approxima.ely 80% rainfall deficit. Here, we investigated shifts in wood anatomical and physiological traits of Kageneckia angustifolia, an endemic treeline species, in response to this drought *** We evaluated the xylem plasticity of three K. angustifolia populations across their natural distribution(31–35° SL) based on anatomical(vessel structure and distribution) and physiological(intrinsic water-use efficiency) variables in the tree rings. We focused on the period 2000–2020 that corresponds to before the megadrought(2000–2007),(ii) megadrought(2008–2018) and(iii) hyperdrought(2019–2020). The variables were annualized and analyzed by linear mixed-effects *** Our results provide insights to the anatomical and physiological mechanisms underlying the resilience of treeline forests to persistent droughts in central Chile. We found that the extreme drought in 2019–2020 triggered shifts in vessel size and frequency that increased hydraulic safety. These significant shifts in vessel traits occurred in parallel with a decrease in pit aperture area and an increase in water-use efficiency, further increasing the resilience of K. angustifolia to extreme drought *** Our results revealed coordinated shifts in vessel size and frequency and water-use efficiency in response to the megadrought, thereby reducing vulnerability to hydraulic failure. Optimization for the multi-chiller system is an indispensable approach for the operation of highly efficient chiller *** optima.obtained by model-based optimization algorithms are dependent on precise and solvable objective *** classical neural networks cannot provide convex input-output ma.pings despite capturing impressive nonlinear fitting capabilities,resulting in a reduction in the robustness of model-based *** this paper,we leverage the input convex neural networks(ICNN)to identify the chiller model to construct a convex ma.ping between control variables and the objective function,which enables the NN-based OCL as a convex optimization problem and apply it to multi-chiller optimization for optima. chiller loading(OCL).Approxima.ion performa.ces are evaluated through a four-model comparison based on an experimental data set,and the statistical results show that,on the premise of retaining prior convexities,the proposed model depicts excellent approxima.ion power for the data set,especially the unseen ***,the ICNN model is applied to a typical OCL problem for a multi-chiller system and combined with three types of optimization *** with conventional and meta-heuristic methods,the numerical results suggest that the gradient-based BFGS algorithm provides better energy-saving ratios facing consecutive cooling load inputs and an impressive convergence speed.

The hybrid cascaded high-voltage direct current(HVDC)transmission system has various operation modes,and some operation modes have sharply increasing requirements for protection rapidity,while the traditional pilot differential protection(PDP)has poor rapidity,and even refuses to operate when faults occur on the DC ***,a novel pilot protection scheme based on traveling wave characteristics is ***,the adaptability of the traditional PDP applied in engineering is analyzed for different operation ***,the expressions of the forward traveling wave(FTW)and backward traveling wave(BTW)on the rectifier side and the inverter side are derived for different fault *** the theoretical derivation,the difference between the BTW and FTW on the rectifier side is less than zero,and the same is true on the inverter ***,in the event of an external fault of DC line,the difference between the BTW and FTW at nearfault terminal protection installation point is greater than ***,by summing over the product of the difference between BTW and FTW of the rectifier side and that of the inverter side,the fault identification criterion is *** simulation results show that the proposed pilot protection scheme can quickly and reliably identify the short-circuit faults of DC line in different operation modes.

Sea level rise along China coast from 1950 to 2020

Global mean sea level rise has been reconstructed using tide gauges. However, long-term sea level rise along the China coast is unclear. To address this issue, a data assimilation approach is developed to reconstruct sea level rise along the China coast from 1950 to 2020 using a global distribution of tide gauges(TGs). This approach combines clima.e models and sea level fingerprints. The clima.e models provide stereodynamic sea level changes. The sea level fingerprints include increases in ocean ma.s due to global ice melting and changes in water storage on land. The reconstructed global mean sea level rise agrees well with previous studies. We quantify sea level rise at 20 TGs along the China coast. The results suggest that sea level rise along the China coast(1.95±0.33 mm yr^(-1)) is greater than the global mean(1.71±0.17 mm yr^(-1)). We also find that China's coastal sea level rise is more than three times faster after 1980, increasing from 0.84±0.28 mm yr^(-1)for 1950–1980 to3.12±0.21 mm yr^(-1)for 1980–2020. This finding implies a significant sea level acceleration along the China coast. Our results advance the understanding of long-term sea level changes along the China coast.
