Contrasts of bimodal tropical instability waves(TIWs)-induced wind stress perturbations in the Pacific Ocean among observations,ocean models,and coupled climate models

The coupling between wind stress perturbations and sea surface temperature(SST)perturbations induced by tropical instability waves(TIWs)in the Pacific Ocean has been revealed previously and proven crucial to both the atmosphere and ***,an overlooked fact by previous studies is that the loosely defined“TIWs”actually consist of two modes,including the Yanai wave-based TIW on the equator(hereafter eTIW)and the Rossby wave-based TIW off the equator(hereafter vTIW).Hence,the individual feedbacks of the wind stress to the bimodal TIWs remain *** this study,individual coupling relationships are established for both eTIW and v TIW,including the relationship between the TIW-induced SST perturbations and two components of wind stress perturbations,and the relationship between the TIW-induced wind stress perturbation divergence(curl)and the downwind(crosswind)TIW-induced SST *** show that,due to different distributions of eTIW and vTIW,the coupling strength induced by the eTIW is stronger on the equator,and that by the vTIW is stronger off the *** results of any of eTIW and vTIW are higher than those of the loosely defined *** further investigated how well the coupling relationships remained in several widely recognized oceanic general circulation models and fully coupled climate ***,the coupling relationships cannot be well represented in most numerical ***,we confirmed that higher resolution usually corresponds to more accurate ***,the coupling models established in this study are complementary to previous research and can be used to refine the oceanic and coupled climate models.

Identifying the Hydrochemical Characteristics,Genetic Mechanisms and Potential Human Health Risks of Fluoride and Nitrate Enriched Groundwater in the Tongzhou District,Beijing,North China

Fluoride and nitrate enriched groundwater are potential threats to the safety of the groundwater supply that may cause significant effects on human health and public safety,especially in aggregated population areas and economic *** study focuses on the high F^(−)and NO_(3)^(−)concentration groundwater in Tongzhou District,Beijing,North China.A total of 36 groundwater samples were collected to analyze the hydrochemical characteristics,elucidate genetic mechanisms and evaluate the potential human health *** results of the analysis indicate:Firstly,most of the groundwater samples are characterized by Mg-HCO_(3) and Na-HCO_(3) with the pH ranging from 7.19 to 8.28 and TDS with a large variation across the range 471-2337 mg/*** NO_(3)^(−)concentration in 38.89%groundwater samples and the F^(−)concentration in 66.67%groundwater samples exceed the permissible limited ***,F^(−)in groundwater originates predominantly from water-rock interactions and the fluorite dissolution,which is also regulated by cation exchange,competitive adsorption of HCO_(3)−and an alkaline ***,the effect of sewage disposal and agricultural activities have a significant effect on high NO3-concentration,while the high F^(−)concentration is less influenced by anthropogenic *** alkaline environment favors nitrification,thus being conducive to the production of NO_(3)^(−).Finally,the health risk assessment is evaluated for different population *** results indicate that high NO_(3)^(−)and F^(−)concentration in groundwater would have the largest threat to children’s *** findings of this study could contribute to the provision of a scientific basis for groundwater supply policy formulation relating to public health in Tongzhou District.

Inhibiting HMGCR represses stemness and metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma via Hedgehog signaling

Cancer stem cells(CSCs)play a crucial role in tumor initiation,recurrence,metastasis,and drug ***,the current understanding of CSCs in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)remains *** a comprehensive analysis of the database,it has been observed that 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase(HMGCR),a critical enzyme involved in cholesterol synthesis,is up-regulated in HCC tissues and liver ***,high expression of HMGCR is associated with a poor prognosis in patients with ***,HMGCR promotes the stemness and metastasis of HCC both in vitro and in *** screening various signaling pathway inhibitors,we have determined that HMGCR regulates stemness and metastasis by activating the Hedgehog signaling in ***,HMGCR positively correlates with the expression of the Smoothened receptor and facilitates the nuclear translocation of the transcriptional activator GLI family zinc finger *** of the Hedgehog pathway can reverse the stimulatory effects of HMGCR on stemness and metastasis in ***,simvastatin,an FDA-approved cholesterol-lowering drug,has been shown to inhibit stemness and metastasis of HCC by targeting *** together,our findings suggest that HMGCR promotes the regeneration and metastasis of HCC through the activation of Hedgehog signaling,and simvastatin holds the potential for clinical suppression of HCC metastasis.

Seismic Risk Model for the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Region, China:Considering Epistemic Uncertainty from the Seismic Hazard Models

This study presents a probabilistic seismic risk model for the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region in China. The model comprises a township-level residential building exposure model, a vulnerability model derived from the Chinese building taxonomy,and a regional probabilistic seismic hazard model. The three components are integrated by a stochastic event-based method of the OpenQuake engine to assess the regional seismic risk in terms of average annual loss and exceedance probability curve at the city, province, and regional levels. The novelty and uniqueness of this study are that a probabilistic seismic risk model for the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei region in China is developed by considering the impact of site conditions and epistemic uncertainty from the seismic hazard model.

Carbon nanocages bridged with graphene enable fast kinetics for dual-carbon lithium-ion capacitors

Lithium-ion capacitors(LICs) combining the advantages of lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors are considered a promising nextgeneration energy storage device. However, the sluggish kinetics of battery-type anode cannot match the capacitor-type cathode, restricting the development of LICs. Herein, hierarchical carbon framework(HCF) anode material composed of 0D carbon nanocage bridged with 2D graphene network are developed via a template-confined synthesis process. The HCF with nanocage structure reduces the Li^(+) transport path and benefits the rapid Li^(+) migration, while 2D graphene network can promote the electron interconnecting of carbon nanocages. In addition, the doped N atoms in HCF facilitate to the adsorption of ions and enhance the pseudo contribution, thus accelerate the kinetics of the anode. The HCF anode delivers high specific capacity, remarkable rate capability. The LIC pouch-cell based on HCF anode and active HCF(a-HCF) cathode can provide a high energy density of 162 Wh kg^(-1) and a superior power density of 15.8 kW kg^(-1), as well as a long cycling life exceeding 15,000cycles. This study demonstrates that the well-defined design of hierarchical carbon framework by incorporating 0D carbon nanocages and 2D graphene network is an effective strategy to promote LIC anode kinetics and hence boost the LIC electrochemical performance.

Geothermal resources are increasingly gaining attention as a competitive,clean energy source to address the energy crisis and mitigate climate *** Wugongshan area,situated in the southeast coast geothermal belt of China,is a typical geothermal anomaly and contains abundant medium-and low-temperature geothermal *** study employed hydrogeochemical and isotopic techniques to explore the cyclic evolution of geothermal water in the western Wugongshan region,encompassing the recharge origin,water-rock interaction mechanisms,and residence *** results show that the geothermal water in the western region of Wugongshan is weakly alkaline,with low enthalpy and mineralization *** hydrochemistry of geothermal waters is dominated by Na-HCO_(3)and Na-SO_(4),while the hydrochemistry types of cold springs are all Na-HCO_(3).The hydrochemistry types of surface waters and rain waters are NaHCO_(3)or Ca-HCO_(3).The δD and δ^(18)O values reveal that the geothermal waters are recharged by atmospheric precipitation at an altitude between 550.0 and 1218.6 *** ratios of maj or solutes and isotopic compositions of^(87)Sr/^(86)Sr underscore the significant role of silicate weathering,dissolution,and cation exchange in controlling geothermal water ***,geothermal waters experienced varying degrees of mixing with cold water during their ***δ^(13)C values suggest that the primary sources of carbon in the geothermal waters were biogenic and ***δ^(34)S value suggests that the sulfates in geothermal water originate from sulfide minerals in the surrounding *** dating using 3H and^(14)C isotopes suggests that geothermal waters have a residence time exceeding 1 kaBP and undergo a long-distance cycling process.

This paper presents an efficient scheme for single-pixel imaging(SPI)utilizing a phase-controlled fiber laser array and an untrained deep neural *** fiber lasers are arranged in a compact hexagonal structure and coherently combined to generate illuminating light *** the utilization of high-speed electro-optic modulators in each individual fiber laser module,the randomly modulated fiber laser array enables rapid speckle projection onto the object of ***,the untrained deep neural network is incorporated into the image reconstructing process to enhance the quality of the reconstructed *** simulations and experiments,we validate the feasibility of the proposed method and successfully achieve high-quality SPI utilizing the coherent fiber laser array at a sampling ratio of 1.6%.Given its potential for high emitting power and rapid modulation,the SPI scheme based on the fiber laser array holds promise for broad applications in remote sensing and other applicable fields.

Achieving high strength and rapid degradation in Mg-Gd-Ni alloys by regulating LPSO phase morphology combined with extrusion

In this study, Mg-13.2Gd-4.3Ni alloys containing continuous bulk-shaped long-period stacking ordered (LPSO), lamellar LPSO, and a small amount of eutectic phase were prepared, and the evolution of microstructure at different extrusion temperatures and its influence on mechanical and degradation properties as well as corrosion mechanism were investigated. Preheating before extrusion can effectively promote the precipitation of lamellar LPSO in matrix. EX400 with higher volume fraction of non-DRXed grains exhibited higher strength, which was mainly due to strong texture, high dislocation density, and high volume fraction of lamellar LPSO. The EX420 with higher volume fraction of DRXed grains showed higher degradation rate, which was mainly due to the higher density of grain boundary. The EX400 exhibited excellent comprehensive properties with tensile yield strength (TYS) of 334 MPa, ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of 484 MPa and elongation (EL) of 7.4%, ultimate compressive strength (UCS) of 638 MPa and compressive yield strength (CYS) of 443 MPa, degradation rate of 86.1 mg/cm 2 /h at 93 degrees C in 3 wt.% KCl solution. Achieving exceptionally high strength and rapid degradation rate of Mg-Er-Ni alloy by strengthening with lamellar γ' and bulk LPSO phases

As-extruded Mg-Er-Ni alloys with different volume fractions of long-period stacking ordered(LPSO)phase and density of lamellar γ' phase were prepared,and the microstructure,mechanical,and degradation properties were *** the bulk LPSO phase and the lamellar γ' phase,and controlling the dynamic recrystallization processes during deformation by adjusting the volume fraction of LPSO and the density of the γ' phase,a synergistic increase in strength and degradation rate can be *** the one hand,the increase in corrosion rate was related to the increased volume fraction of the bulk LPSO phase and the densities of the lamellar γ' phase,which provide more galvanic ***,high densities of the lamellar γ' phase can provide more corrosion interface by inhibiting the recrystallization process to refine dynamic recrystallized(DRXed)grains during the hot *** the other hand,the ultimate tensile strength(UTS)and tensile yield strength(TYS)of the Mg-Er-Ni alloy increased from 345 and 265 MPa to 514 MPa and 358 MPa,respectively,which was mainly attributed to grain boundary and texture strengthening,bulk LPSO phase and lamellar γ' phase ***,Mg^(-1)4Er-4Ni alloy,which contains the highest volume fraction bulk LPSO phase and the densities of lamellar γ' phase,re-alized a synergistic enhancement of strength and degradation *** UTS,TYS,and degradation rate of Mg^(-1)4Er-4Ni were 514 MPa,358 MPa,and 142.5 mg cm^(-2)h^(-1)(3 wt%KCl solution at 93◦C),*** research provides new insight into developing Mg alloys with high strength and degradation rates for fracturing tool materials in the application of oil and gas exploitation in harsh environments.
