Introduction: Stroke may have a negative impact on mental health and behavior. Cognitive disorders are common after stroke. They are rarely assessed in current clinical practice, particularly in our context. They constitute a real “invisible” handicap. In sub-Saharan Africa, we are not aware of any studies specifically assessing executive functions. These functions are at the heart of all adaptation processes to new or complex situations. This prompted the authors to carry out this study at the Ibrahima Pierre Ndiaye Neuroscience Department of the Fann National University Hospital Centre (Senegal). Objective and Methodology: The aim of this study was to assess and characterize post-stroke alterations in executive functions in our context. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study. It took place over a 4-month period from April 1 to August 31, 2021. Patients were matched to controls according to age, gender and educational level. Executive functions were assessed using the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB). Results: A total of 30 patients with stroke were enrolled. These patients were matched to controls. The mean age of the patients was 46.87 ± 17.65 years. For the control group, it was 39.27 ± 12.33 years. The prevalence of executive function disorders was 20% in post-stroke patients. The majority of executive functions assessed were impaired. Sensitivity to interference and environmental autonomy were the only ones preserved. Conclusion: Impaired executive functions are common after stroke. They should be systematically assessed in all stroke patients to ensure optimal management.

This current study is a synthesis of our background in Business Administration and operations research along with insights from the current management environment in which public enterprises such as SENELEC evolve in Senegal. Our purpose was to develop a case study of this government-owned company in charge of the production and distribution of electricity in a national *** public enterprises are becoming less and less efficient, investigating in a more idiosyncratic perspective the role SENELEC plays in terms of economic cohesion and accelerated growth has become a must. Since its creation in 1984, the company is leading the electricity supply market. Even though it is enjoying its hegemony as a monopoly, SENELEC is still struggling with the electricity coverage in the entire territory and never-ending power cuts that render its customers to view its performances as not satisfactory.A set of questionnaire and interviews was utilized to have a sound understanding of how the local consumers perceived the competences and performances of the national electricity company. We developed an eligible sample of 110 subjects. Responses were computed and interpreted by Sphinx and SPSS *** finding shows that SENELEC clients are in majority unsatisfactory of the company supply performances because of various reasons. In addition, the production of electricity is not enough, one of the main reasons why its national electrification rate is only 33%.The recommendations, in summary, are divided in short, medium and long term seen the importance and the current situation of the company. The company should not only invest more in the solar system to compensate the lack in electricity production but also review its policy in the oil sector. It should definitely solve the oldness of the central power machines and replace them with much more up-to-date technologies.

This article presents, on the one hand, the performance of ARC by configurations ITO/Si, MgO/Si, and GeO2/Si. On the other hand, we study the impact of thickness on the reflection of OCTs, because the thickness of OCTs plays an important role on the optical properties and the variation of the reflection and transmission of TCO/Si heterojunctions as a function of thickness is also sown. And the last part of the paper, we will make a comparative study between the performance of silicon textured on the front side and that of silicon where the front side is planar. These two forms of silicon will be covered with ARC. For this, we will use the following materials ITO, MgO, and GeO2 and we represent the variation of the reflection of CAR on a planar surface and on a textured surface as a function of the wavelength. The results show that the reflection is low in textured surface compare to the planar surface.

The southeastern part of Senegal, in West Africa, is home to the country’s first major gold mine owned by Sabodala gold operations SGO, as subsidiary of Teranga Gold Corporation during the timeframe of this study. As part of its expansion, the company opened and operated the Gora satellite mine for 4 years’ exploitation. At the end of the mine’s life, the authorities decided to close the site. In this context, SGO in compliance with its legal, regulatory and normative obligations, has commissioned a study of rehabilitation activities for a better environmental and social management of the Gora gold mine. This study is a first in Senegal and presents the general framework for the rehabilitation of a gold mine which will allow scientists to have several research perspectives in this field. The methodological approach consisted of a participatory process of collecting field data and data from stakeholders directly involved in mine rehabilitation and closure;these data were analyzed and coupled with international best practices in rehabilitation, closure, and post-mine management. Results of the selected options are based on known experiences from around the world, coupled with analysis of the SGO’s field activities results and those obtained from the synthesis of the interview guides from the numerous consultations. This synthesis made possible to align them with international guidelines presented in this document. In this context, the aspects related to the open-pit mine equipment, processing facilities and related infrastructure were a particular interest to the various stakeholders. Thus, the following rehabilitation options were retained by the group constituted by the populations: 1) Backfilling pits, for cultivation practices and development of agribusiness and the establishment of grazing land for livestock;2) Setting up water storage basins for the sustainable development of certain activities around the mine and aquifer recharge while respecting the protection

Based on the perception of flood risk factors derived from the lessons learned by the main stakeholders, namely the members of the National Emergency Response Plan (ORSEC) and the people affected by floods in the study area (Thies, Senegal), this work consists of modelling the flood risk using Hierarchical Process Analysis (HPA). This modelling made it possible to determine the coherence index (CI) and the coherence ratio, which were evaluated respectively at 0.27% and 5% according to the perception of the members of the ORSEC Plan, and at 0.28% and 5% according to the perception of the disaster victims. These results show that the working approach is coherent and acceptable. We then carried out Hierarchical Fuzzy Process Analysis (HFPA), an extension of HFPA, which seeks to minimize the margins of error. FPHA uses fuzzification of perception contributions, interference rules and defuzzification to determine the Net Flood Risk Index (NFRI). Integrated with ArcGIS software, the NFRI is used to generate flood risk maps that reveal a high risk of vulnerability of the main outlets occupied by human settlements.

Monazite Recovery by magnetic and Gravity Separation of Medium Grade Zircon Concentrate from Senegalese Heavy Mineral Sands Deposit

Gravity, magnetic and electrostatic separation methods allowed to obtain different titanium oxide concentrates (ilmenite, leucoxene, rutile) and different varieties of zircon concentrates (premium zircon, standard zircon, medium grade zircon standard) from Senegal’s heavy mineral sands. During mining separation, monazite, which is a paramagnetic mineral, was found in a non-negligible concentration of 0.57 wt% on average in the medium grade zircon standard which also contains 37.96 wt% zircon and 44.46 wt% titanium oxides. magnetic and gravity separation tests were carried out on the Medium grade zircon standard (MGZS) to produce a monazite concentrate at Eramet Ideas laboratory. magnetic separation at 1.5 teslas intensity resulted in the recovery of 94.8% of the monazite from the MGZS. Gravity separation also recovered 76.6% of the monazite from the MGZS. The combination of these two treatment methods can thus produce three concentrates from MGZS (a monazite concentrate, a zircon concentrate, and a titanium oxide concentrate).

Relationship between Circulating Plasma Galectin-3 Levels and T-Cell Activation during Cervical Cancer Chemotherapy

Objective: Despite the existence of several therapeutic strategies, the management of cervical cancer remains challenging. Our region has very little data on the interaction between the immune system and the clinical response to chemotherapy. This work examines plasma levels of galectin-3 (Gal-3) and percentages of activated T cells in patients with cervical cancer treated with chemotherapy and investigates if there is a relationship between the rates of these two elements. Methods: We compared data from 37 patients with cervical cancer undergoing chemotherapy and 42 controls with normal cervical cytology. Plasma Gal-3 concentrations were assessed by ELISA and expression of activation markers by T cells (CD69 and HLA-DR) was assessed by flow cytometry at three different time points during chemotherapy. Results: Our results showed that patients had a significantly higher concentration of Gal-3 compared to controls (4.025 vs. 1.340, p 0.001), similarly, they had a significantly high percentage of activated lymphocytes (2.610 vs. 0.731;p 0.0001). According to the response to treatment, patients with no response to treatment had a lower concentration of circulating Gal-3 but had approximately the same percentage of activated CD4 and CD8 lymphocytes as patients with a partial or total response. In addition, we found a positive correlation between the Gal-3 level and CD4 T cells expressing the activation marker CD69 (p 0.05;rho = 0.44). Conclusion: In conclusion, our results show that there would be a relationship between circulating galectin-3 and the percentage of peripheral CD4+CD69+ cells in cervical cancer.
