Integration system is used to denote practices that combine systematic use of the land and technologies,in which forest species are used in conjunction with herbaceous plants and/or animals respecting a spatial or temporal *** that this type of production seeks to balance ecological and economic factors,it is important to understand the financial benefits and risks involved in this *** analysis,therefore,acts as an important analysis tool to foster this type of *** paper aimed to conduct analysis of investment risk of a crop-livestock-forestry system deployed in Brazil,comparing two different production scenarios,scenario I with 17 ha and scenario II with 25 *** risk analysis was performed using the Monte Carlo method and sensitivity analysis(by varying the factors:the discount rate,productivity and price).A cash flow was elaborated based on annual cost and revenues data of the agricultural crops(corn and soybeans),livestock and eucalyptus,using an interest rate of 6%per *** results indicated that the optimal age for cutting the eucalyptus was at seven years on both scenarios;scenario I had better return on investment using deterministic and probabilistic methods;scenario I presents higher investments risks;there is a negative relation between discount rate and annualized net present value(ANPV);increased productivity of crops provides greater profitability to the system;there has been an increase in the economic viability of the system,as value has been added to the *** Carlo method and the sensitivity analysis showed to be an appropriate tool to analyze the risk of crop-livestock-forestry systems,making it possible to foresee how the project will respond to possible scenarios.

This short paper is about art and science and the human struggle to figure out the world we live in. It is also about the imagination and human progress, rationality and subjectivity, as well as the development of devices to ascertain out accurate knowledge--and yet the imagination and forms of thought are themselves devices that are integral to mechanical inventions. At the core of the subject under discussion, the aesthetic can be found reasons for the existence of other phenomena, the rational and the sensitive, epistemology and phenomenology, fulfilling human pleasure and necessity, and moving forward a humanized cosmos. Somewhere seems to rise and grow afresh a precise image of what we actually are and it can be revealed simply by being in the world and experiencing it on the basis of the mind-body-worM or by extending human senses through technology.

Cachexia is a multifactorial syndrome related to unintentional weight loss and to loss of muscle and fat mass. In head and neck cancer (HNC) its incidence is important and not only related to a deficient intake of food due to the impact of the disease in the vital functions. A complex disturbance in the normal metabolism of the patient promotes a persistent inflammatory state and a shifting in the metabolism balance toward a catabolic predominance affecting primarily the skeletal muscle. This leads to severe impairment of the functional, emotional and social status and quality of life of the patients that will compromise response to treatment and the disease prognosis. Understanding this deleterious syndrome and mainly identifying it in early stages of the disease is of a major importance in achieving better outcomes to head and neck cancer patients. This study pretends to identify clinical aspects related to cachexia in HNC in a clinical perspective for application on the routine clinical practice. In our study, 30 HNC patients were enrolled and evaluated in terms of nutritional values (actual and loss of weight in the past 6 months, body mass index (BMI), nutritional risk index (NRI), malnutrition universal screening tool), serum biochemical markers (albumin, total proteins, cholesterol, triglycerides, urea, C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and myostatin) and health related quality of life (HRQoL) evaluation (using European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) quality of life questionnaires (QLQ): EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-HN43). A minimum follow-up of 48 months was considered for all patients. Our results showed that NRI is a good and sensitive index to identify cachexia. This index uses two parameters, one constitutional (loss of weight) and one biochemical (level of serum albumin). Root Growth, Nutrition and Yield of maize with Applied Finely Limestone in Surface of Cerrado Soil

The surface applies lime to correcting soil acidity in no-tillage and promotes root development and yield of maize. However, limestone with a particle size smaller than 0.30 mm cannot promote this effect. The aim of this study was to determine the root attributes, nutrition and productivity of maize with limestone ground in no-tillage. The experimental design was randomized blocks with five treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of different particle sizes of limestone applying superficially to the soil under NT 0) control, without lime, 1) 0.30 mm to 0.20 mm 2) 0.20 mm to 0.10 mm, 3) 0, 10 mm to 0.05 mm 4) 0.05 mm to 0.01 mm. Attributes root, leaf nutrition and grain yield of maize were evaluated in two years 2009 and 2010. The elongation of roots in a 20-40 cm depth was greater when using limestone with particle size between 0.30 mm and 0.20 mm. The root length of maize plants correlated with the levels of Mn in maize leaves. The root development promoted by liming effect was not reflected in the productivity of maize.

The limestone with smaller particle size provides rapid correction of soil acidity. However, the limestone with large particles can promote bigger root growth, and may still have a residual effect on the soil. The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual effect of the application and incorporation of different limestone with a particle size bigger than 0.30 mm in root growth, nutrition and yield of maize in Cerrado soil. A randomized completed block utilized in this experiment, with five treatments and four replications. The grain sizes of dolomitic limestone incorporated into the Oxisol were: 0 (control, no-lime), 2.00-0.82 mm, 0.82-0.56 mm, 0.56-0.30 mm, 0.30-0.20 mm, in doses of 6.5 t·ha-1, 3.9 t·ha-1, 2.6 t·ha-1 and 1.3 t·ha-1 respectively. The limestone applied in introduction no-tillage. The maize were evaluated of root attributes, nutrition and grain yield in two years 2009 and 2010. The use of limestone particle size of 2.00-0.82 mm, and the quantity of 6.5 t·ha-1 applied to the soil and incorporated showed elongation and root growth of maize thin depth of 20-40 cm in the soil. In that, same proposed management of the limestone was the highest maize grain yield in the first year. The rooting characteristics evaluated correlated with leaf Ca and Cu and maizegrain yield.

Vertebral hemangiomas are common benign lesions of the spine, characterized by abnormal vascular proliferation, being commonly asymptomatic incidental findings, presenting symptoms in only a small portion of affected individuals. In a smaller number of cases, however, hemangiomas can present an expansive effect and extra-osseous extension, determining a mass effect and neurological symptoms, being therefore called aggressive hemangiomas. On MRI, aggressive hemangiomas are characterized by having a larger vascular component and a smaller fat component, thus producing a low signal on T1-weighted images. We illustrate the case of a young male patient who presented with pain in the upper thoracic spine, who developed paraparesis and ascending sensory deficit and progressive lower limbs, progressing to paraplegia and loss of sphincter control.

Anemia as a Predictor of Mortality in Patients with Decompensated Heart Failure

Objective： To correlate file presence of anemia with mortality in hospitalized patients with decompensated HF （heart failure）. Methods： A total of 148 patients hospitalized for HF compensation were analyzed from April 1 to December 31, 2017 in a tertiary referral hospital for cardiovascular diseases. The diagnosis of anemia was established according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health criteria, considering a serum hemoglobin value of 〈 13 g/alL for men and 〈 12 g/dL for women. Data were collected through medical and physical attendance records. Statistical analysis was performed using the Epi Info program, version 7.0 for Windows, with Student＇ s t test for unpaired variables, Chi-square test and Fischer test. The significance ofp 〈 0.05 was considered. Results： Of the 148 selected patients, 63.5% were male, 60.1% were over 65 years old, 50.74% were enrolled in the first grade, and 93.2% were self-declared white. The prevalence of anemia observed in the study population was 72 （56.25%）, of which 49 （68%） were male and 23 （32%） were female. The mortality rate of the anemic patients was 19.4%, a total of 14 patients, whereas the non-anemic patients rate was 7.9%. It was observed that patients with worse outcome had hemoglobin 〈 12rag/alL （p = 0.045） and Functional Class （FC IV） by the New York Heart Association （NYHA）（p = 0.0001） at hospital admission. Conclusions： It is noticed that anemia is a frequent finding in patients with HF and that it interferes in the clinical manifestations, with worsening of the prognosis. Anemia treatment is not yet standarized in the HF approach, but patients without anemia appear to evolve with more favorable outcomes than anemia.

AIM: To analyze the effect of age-period and birth cohort on gastric cancer mortality, in Brazil and across its five geographic regions, by sex, in the population over 20 years of age, as well as make projections for the period ***: An ecological study is presented herein,which distributed gastric cancer-related deaths in Brazil and its geographic regions. The effects of ageperiod and birth cohort were calculated by the Poisson regression model and projections were made with the age-period-cohort model in the statistical program R. RESULTS: Progressive reduction of mortality rates was observed in the 1980's, and then higher and lower mortality rates were verified in the 2000's, for both sexes, in Brazil and for the South, Southeast and Midwest regions. A progressive decrease in mortality rates was observed for the Northeast(both sexes) and North(men only) regions within the period 1995-1999, followed by rising rates. CONCLUSION: Regional differences were demonstrated in the mortality rates for gastric cancer in Brazil, and the least developed regions of the country will present increases in projected mortality rates.

Cigarette smoking is the main cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Diaphragm injury is observed in patients with COPD. However, the potential role of smoking in triggering or perpetuating muscle injury is unknown. The present study was aimed at evaluating the potential role of commercial tobacco smoke as a direct cause of skeletal muscle injury in experimental conditions. Seventy Wistar rats (170 - 250 g) were assigned to smoking (n = 49) or non-smoking (n = 21) groups. The smoking groups were submitted to a single or multiple (i.e., five or thirty) daily sessions of cigarette smoking in an inhalatory chamber (time length: 2 h each session). The level of exposure was constant and assessed by CO concentrations (50 ppm) and serum cotinine analysis. Animals submitted to a single smoke exposure and the corresponding controls were euthanized in groups at 0 h, 2 h, 4 h, 24 h or 48 h after completing the exposure. Animals submitted to multiple exposures were euthanized at 0 h after smoking. samples from vastus lateralis muscle were obtained and processed for assessing cell injury and selected protein expression. Monoclonal anti-albumin antibodies were used to identify muscle fibers with sarcolemmal (membrane) injury. Subcellular muscle injury was assessed using transmission electron microscopy (EM). MyoD, myogenin and α-tubulin were immunodetected using western blot techniques. Exposure to cigarette smoke associated with significant membrane damage (mean relative difference (MRD) with controls: +181%, p = 0.004) and sarcomere disruptions (MRD: +226%, p = 0.001). Expression of MyoD and myogenin (normalized to α-tubulin) were significantly increased at 4 h and remained increased at 48 h post-exposure. We conclude that not only a single but also consecutive exposure to tobacco smoke have acute deleterious effects on peripheral muscle structure.
