Development of Composite Textile Structures for Wound Dressing Applications

The main objective of this research work was the development of novel and responsive nonwoven composite structures containing gelling materials for wound management. The development of novel all inclusive collagen booster(CB) therapeutic nonwoven wound dressings was mainly focused on. It provides essential functional properties such as high absorption,vertical and lateral wicking,and antibacterial and acidic pH properties. The developed composite wound dressing consisted of carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) fibre and also it was reinforced with polylactic acid( PLA) fibre. The produced composite wound dressings were treated with two different CBs at 4% by using the spray method. The details of the CBs have not been disclosed in this paper due to the Intellectual Property Rights( IPR) issues. The important benefit of using CB treatment is that it allows the maintenance of an acidic pH environment at the wound area. It is well known that acidic pH reduces the wound healing time and enhances the wound healing process. Furthermore,one of the CBs not only promotes the proliferation of the epithelial cells in wounds but also can provide antibacterial action. The PLA fibre reinforced CMC composite dressing has enhanced wicking properties which help to minimise the pooling of exudate on the wound bed and as a result maceration is prevented. The CBs treated dressings maintain the wound bed in an acidic pH condition which also improves the wound healing process. In addition to the above-mentioned properties,the CB treatment imparts antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria,thus resulting in the reduction in the propensity for wound infection. Ultimately,the research has proved that the 4% CB treatment enhances the antimicrobial activity and the acidic pH characteristics of the developed CMC /PLA composite wound dressings.

The structural and magnetic properties of essentially phase pure AlFe2B2prepared by arc melting were compared with a sample containing impurities. Analysis was carried out by means of synchrotron X-ray diffraction, magnetic measurements and M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The analysis of synchrotron X-ray diffraction data confirmed the orthorhombic structure of space group Cmmm for AlFe2B2with Al13Fe4as main impurity phase. The magnetic measurements revealed an unsaturated ferromagnetic state in AlFe2B2with a transition temperature（Tc） of 286 K. Isothermal magnetization measurment at 5 K gave a saturation magnetization of 0.7 μB per Fe atom while Arrott plots establish the second order nature of ferromagnetic transition. The thermal evolution of M?ssbauer spectra confirmed the ferromagnetic nature of this material revealing an hyperfine field of 73 kOe and an isomer shift of 0.46 mm/s at 100 K. The M?ssbauer spectra of a phase pure sample was compared with the one containing impurity phases. It is suggested that the low temperature paramagnetic contribution in M?ssbauer spectra of phase pure material may have its origin in some intrinsic phenomena arising from defects or inhomogeneities in crystal structure.

Transition metal-containing MXene has shown great potential in the promising research fields,and its performance strongly depends on the composition,structure,dimension,and surface ***,rational design and controllable synthesis of ultrathin two-dimensional(2D)MXene nanosheets with uniform surface terminations are of great ***,the use of 2D MXene,particularly in solar-powered photocatalysis and electrocatalysis,is restricted by the formation of thick,multi-layered MXene flakes with a small interlayer spacing produced from the conventional hydrofluoric acid(HF)etching *** this work,we report a few-layer MXene nanosheets by solely employing a mixture of lithium fluoride and hydrochloric acid as the etching *** etching and intercalation technique endows MXene with ultrathin 2D nanostructures;moreover,the use of fluoride salt,rather than harmful HF,offers a safer and environmentally-friendly synthetic route for scalable green production of 2D *** the obtained Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)and Nb_(2)CT_(x)nanosheets show a highly efficient photoelectrochemical performance superior to highly stacked MXene *** work highlights a mild,simultaneous etching and delamination strategy for the development of high quality of 2D MXene nanosheets.

Accurate and sensitive determination of hydroxychloroquine sulfate used on COVID-19 patients in human urine,serum and saliva samples by GC-MS

A rapid,accurate,and sensitive analytical method,ultrasonication-assisted spraying based fine droplet formationeliquid phase microextractionegas chromatographyemass spectrometry(UA-SFDF-LPME-GCMS),was proposed for the determination of trace amounts of hydroxychloroquine sulfate in human serum,urine,and saliva *** determine the best extraction strategy,several liquid and solid phase extraction methods were investigated for their efficiencies in isolation and preconcentration of hydroxychloroquine sulfate from biological *** UA-SFDF-LPME method was determined to be the best extraction method as it was operationally simple and provided accurate *** such as the extraction solvent,spraying number,sodium hydroxide concentration and volume,sample volume,mixing method,and mixing period were optimized for the proposed method using the onevariable-at-a-time *** addition,Tukey’s method based on a post hoc comparison test was employed to evaluate the significant difference between the parameters *** the optimization studies,the limit of detection(LOD)and limit of quantification(LOQ)were determined to be 0.7 and 2.4 mg/kg,*** sensitivity of the GC-MS system based on the LOD was enhanced approximately 440-fold when the UA-SFDF-LPME method was *** experiments were also conducted for the human serum,urine,and saliva samples to determine the applicability and accuracy of the proposed *** for the human serum,urine,and saliva samples were found to be in the ranges of 93.9%-101.7%,95.2%-105.0%,and 93.1%-102.3%,*** results were satisfactory and indicated that the hydroxychloroquine sulfate level in the above biological samples could be analyzed using the proposed method.

The aim of our study was to evaluate the outcome of penile prosthesis implantation in patients with various comorbidities as a cause of erectile dysfunction （ED）. The data of 181 patients who underwent surgery between 1998 and 2012 in two centers were evaluated. The mean age of the patients was 52.2 years （range： 31-71 years）. The study group contained 162 patients （89.5%） with malleable prostheses and 19 （10.5%） with inflatable implants. All patients were re-evaluated 1 month later to assess prosthesis function and complications, and further re-examinations were performed if needed. Satisfaction was defined as having satisfactory intercourse and happiness with the device in general. The follow-up period was at least 12 months for each patient. The postoperative complication rate was 32% （n = 58）. The number of complications with inflatable and malleable prostheses was 7 （3.9%） and 51 （28.1%）, respectively. Overall, 21 prostheses （11.6%） had to be removed because of various complications and patient dissatisfaction. Patients with prior radical surgery had higher extraction rates （n = 14.606, P 〈 0.05, Chi-square test）. The main reasons for removal were erosion （n = 11; 6.1%） and infection （n = 3; 2.1%）. With respect to satisfaction during intercourse, we found that 104 （57.5%） patients described themselves as very satisfied with the prosthesis, while 21 （11.6%） were unsatisfied. The high explantation rate in patients with prior surgery was remarkable in our study. Our results revealed that a malleable prosthesis should not be the preferred type of implant for patients with prior surgery.
