Two Ni/Ni3Al-interface-contained cluster models with/without lattice misfit are studied by first-principles method to clarify the debates about the segregation behaviors of Hafnium （Hf） and explore the influence of lattice misfit on the ductility effect of Hr. It is found that though Hf prefers to substitute A1 rather than Ni in Ni3A1 phase within most of the investigated misfit range, its stronger preferring to Ni phase than NiaA1 phase makes it impossible to go into Ni3A1 phase to occupy A1 site in Ni-Ni3A1 alloys. Bond order analysis in Hf-free case shows that lattice misfit has different effects on the Griffith work of interfacial cleavage 27int/E and the maximum theoretical shear stress Zmax of Ni and Ni3A1, contributing to the existence of anomalous strength-temperature phenomena in NiaA1 alloys. However, the addition of Hf will make the 27int/E （or Zmax） of both Ni3A1 and Ni decrease （or increase） with lattice misfit, indicating that the addition of Hf may make the anomalous strength-temperature relationship in Ni3A1 region disappear locally.

Purpose: To compare latanoprost with the fixed-combination latanoprost-timolol in glaucoma or ocular hypertension patients switched from a combination glaucoma therapy with timolol and another nonprostaglandin medication. Design: Prospective randomized clinical trial. Methods: Glaucoma or ocular hypertension patients receiving a combined treatment of timolol 0.5% and another nonprostaglandin medication (pilocarpine 4% , α -agonist, or a topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitor) underwent a 30- day washout of their medications. A masked observer then measured their intraocular pressure (IOP). The subjects were randomized to either latanoprost or fixed-combination latanoprost-timolol eyedrops to use once daily at 7 am. The IOP was measured again 30 days after the patients started using one of the study drugs by the same examiner at the same time. Main Outcome Measure: Comparison of the study medications’ hypotensive effect. results: Fifty-three eyes (28 in the latanoprost group and 25 in the latanoprost-timolol group) from 28 patients were included in the study. The IOP reduction was greater in both study groups compared with the previous combination therapy with timolol and another nonprostaglandin medication in millimeters of mercury (7.7± 2.3 vs. 5.5± 2.3, P r the latanoprost group; 8.5± 3.5 vs. 6.3± 2.7, P r the latanoprost-timolol group) and percentage (35.8± 8.2% vs. 25.6± 8.9% , P r the latanoprost group; 38.6± 8.7% vs. 28.6± 9.0% , P r the latanoprost-timolol group). There was no statistical difference between latanoprost and fixed-combination latanoprost-timolol in reducing IOP, in either millimeters of mercury (P=0.3) or percentage (P=0.2). Conclusions: Both latanoprost and fixed-combination latanoprost-timolol may be viable substitutes for timolol and another nonprostaglandin medication in glaucoma or ocular hypertension patients.

Objectives: Cardiovascular malformations (CVMs) are reported to be common (～ 75% ) in patients with deletion 22q11.2 (del22q11) syndrome. To better underst and why deletions go unrecognized, we characterized the phenotype in deleted ind ividuals in two large kindreds with particular emphasis on the presence or absen ce of CVM. Study design: After the diagnosis of del22q11 in two unrelated proban ds with CVM, we sequentially evaluated family members with clinical evaluation a nd cytogenetic analysis. results: Del22q11 was identified in 13 individuals; all exhibited characteristic dysmorphic facial features, but a CVM was present in o nly 6 of 13 (46% ) individuals. Conclusions: We speculate that in the absence o f CVM, diagnosis of del22q11 is hampered by a failure to recognize extracardiac features of the del22q11 syndrome spectrum. The data highlight the need for prim ary care physicians and specialists to familiarize themselves with the extracard iac stigmata of del22q11 to ensure timely diagnosis in all family members.

Context: Legislation has been proposed that would mandate parental notification for adolescents younger than 18 years (minors) obtaining prescription contraception from federally funded family planning clinics. Objective: To determine the extent to which parents are currently aware that their teenage daughters are accessing reproductive health services and how minors would react in the face of mandated parental involvement laws for prescription birth control. Design, Setting, and Participants: A total of 1526 female adolescents younger than 18 years seeking reproductive health services at a national sample of 79 family planning clinics were surveyed between May 2003 and February 2004. Main Outcome Measures: Proportions of minor females who reported that a parent or guardian was aware that they were at the family planning clinic and, under conditions of mandated parental involvement, proportions of minors who would access prescription contraceptives at family planning clinics or engage in unsafe sex. results: Sixty percent of minors reported that a parent or guardian knew they were accessing sexual health services at the clinic. Fifty- nine percent of all adolescents would use the clinic for prescription contraception even if parental notification were mandated. This response was less common (29.5% )- among adolescents whose parents were unaware of their clinic visits and more common (79% ) among those whose parents were aware. Many adolescents gave more than 1 response to mandated parental involvement. Forty- six percent would use an over- the- counter method, and 18% would go to a private physician. Seven percent said that they would stop having sex as one response, but only 1% indicated this would be their only reaction. One in 5 adolescents would use no contraception or rely on withdrawal as one response to mandated notification. Conclusions: Most minor adolescent females seeking family planning services report that their parents are aware of their use of service
