Performance Evaluation of Intelligent Adaptive Traffic Control Systems: A Case Study

Mashhad, the second largest city in Iran, like many other big cities, is faced with increasing traffic congestion owing to rapidly increasing population and annual pilgrimage. In recent years, Mashhad traffic and transportation authorities have been challenged with how to manage the increasing congestion with limited budgets for major roadway construction projects. Mashhad has recognized the need to improve the existing system capacity to get the most out of their cur- rent transportation system infrastructures. Since most of the delay times occur at signalized intersections, using an intelligent control system with proper capabilities to overcome the growing traffic requirements is recommended. Following comprehensive studies carried out with the aim of developing the Mashhad traffic control center, the SCATS adaptive traffic control system was introduced as the selected intelligent control system for integrating signalized intersections. The first intersection was equipped with this system in 2005. This paper describes the results of a field evaluation in which fixed actuated-coordinated signal timings are compared with those dynamically computed by SCATS. The ef- fects of this system on optimizing fuel consumption as well as reducing air pollutants are fully discussed. It is found that SCATS consistently reduced travel times and the average delay per stopped or approaching vehicle. The positive impact of adaptive traffic control systems on fuel consumption and air pollution are also highlighted.

目的:描述圆锥角膜(KCN)患者亲属的受累角膜地形图。方法:对75名KCN患者的150名同胞的300只眼睛在角膜诊所进行了研究,经过完整的裂隙灯,屈光检查并由角膜摄影视频图片提供角膜地形图。进行方差分析,Fisher精确测试和卡方检验比较结果。结果:在150个同胞中,女56%,男44%,平均年龄21(15-39)岁。诊断KCN和可疑KCN的分别为12.3%和6.6%。KCN患者中央角膜曲率(CK)为46.50±4.51(D)而可疑KCN患者为45.66±1.52(D)。KCN患者角膜下方与上方平均屈光度差值(I-S)为3.51±2.50(D)而在可疑KCN患者为1.56±1.22(D)。在KCN状态椭圆型为67.6%(25例)而圆型为32.4%(12例)。在可疑KCN分别为90%和10%。KCN屈光不正为-7.50至1.25(-1.25±1.83)D,可疑KCN为0.45至-4.2(-0.68±0.76)D而健康组为2.75至-7.5(-0.6±1.12)D。KCN和可疑KCN中22.7%为轻度散光,18.3%为中度散光。结论:KCN患者健康同胞中KCN情况增加显示出需要筛选检查以早期诊断并在这些个体中谨慎实施屈光性角膜手术或隐形眼镜治疗。

Thermal Modeling of Cylindrical LiFePO4Batteries

Thermal management of Li-ion batteries is important because of the high energy content and the risk of rapid temperature development in the high current range. Reliable and safe operation of these batteries is seriously endangered by high temperatures. It is important to have a simple but accurate model to evaluate the thermal behavior of batteries under a variety of operating conditions and be able to predict the internal temperature as well. To achieve this goal, a radial-axial model is developed to investigate the evolution of the temperature distribution in cylindrical Li-ion cells. Experimental data on LiFePO4 cylindrical Li-ion batteries are used to determine the overpotentials and to estimate the State-of-Charge-dependent entropies from the previously developed adaptive thermal model [1]. The heat evolution is assumed to be uniform inside the battery. Heat exchange from the battery surfaces with the ambient is non-uniform, i.e. depends on the temperature of a particular point at the surface of the cell. Furthermore, the model was adapted for implementation in battery management systems. It is shown that the model can accurately predict the temperature distribution inside the cell in a wide range of operating conditions. Good agreement with the measured temperature development has been achieved. Decreasing the heat conductivity coefficient during cell manufacturing and increasing the heat transfer coefficient during battery operation suppresses the temperature evolution. This modified model can be used for the scale-up of large size batteries and battery packs.

Prevalence of three plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance determinant qnrA, qnrB, qnrS and extended spectrum Cephalosporins determinant blaCMY, among eighty-five isolates of Salmonella spp. collected in the community between 2008 and 2010 was determined by PCR. Not only qnr genes but also bla genes were positive in twenty-four different isolates. PCR assay detected that 22 of 85 (25.8%) Salmonella spp. carried the qnrA, 1 (1.17%) of 85 isolates harbored the qnrB, 1 (1.17%) of them contained the qnrS, 1 (1.17%) isolate carried all the three qnrA, qnrB, qnrS genes, 24 of 85 (28.2%) Salmonella carried blaCMY and 5 (5.88%) isolates carried qnrA and blaCMY. Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of isolates were as follows: 49 (57.6%) exhibited resistance to Nalidixic acid and none of them to Ciprofloxacin. 33 (38.82%) isolates exhibited resistance to Cephalosporins and 2 (2.35%) of them exhibited ESBL phenotype and 12 (14.1%) isolates resistance to Ampicilin. These results were confirmed by MIC determination test as well. Having detected qnr and bla genes suggested that these genes spread antibiotic resistance among pathogenic bacteria.

目的:分析2009-2016年间伊朗传统医学使用及家庭费用支出情况的影响因素。方法:基于伊朗家庭收入和支出调查(HIES),采用伪面板数据的Tobit模型分析家庭收入、家庭财富等级、家庭规模、男性数量、识字成员数量、家庭成员平均年龄对传统医学使用及经费支出的影响。结果:研究结果表明,越富裕的家庭使用传统医学的频率越高;受教育程度越高的家庭成员越倾向于使用传统医学。家庭收入与传统医学的使用及经费支出情况呈正相关。结论:调查结果显示,伊朗对传统医学的使用率低于亚洲地区平均水平,但经济水平越高的家庭对传统草药的消耗量越大。
