Long Term Evolution (LTE) is designed to revolutionize mobile broadband technology with key considerations of higher data rate, improved power efficiency, low latency and better quality of service. This work analyzes the impact of resource scheduling algorithms on the performance of LTE (4G) and WCDMA (3G) networks. In this paper, a full illustration of LTE system is given together with different scheduling algorithms. Thereafter, 3G WCDMA and 4G LTE networks were simulated using Simulink simulator embedded in MATLAB and performance evaluations were carried out. The performance metrics used for the evaluations are average system throughput, packet delay, latency and allocation of fairness using Round Robin, Best CQI and Proportional fair Packet Scheduling Algorithms. The results of the evaluations on both networks were analysed. The results showed that 4G LTE network performs better than 3G WCDMA network in all the three scheduling algorithms used.

Security constrained multi area multi objective dynamic economic dispatch (SCMAMODED) with renewable energy (RE) and all the possible MTDC stability constraints is formulated for the first time. The stability merits of multi terminal DC (MTDC) tie lines as compared to the traditional HVAC forms the main objective of this paper. Probabilistic load flow (PLF) is applied to determine the system parameters while the uncertainties are modelled using Scenario Based Method (SBM). The simulation results reveal that with the use of MTDC tie lines, the frequency and voltage stability in the MAMODED with renewable energy sources (RES) are enhanced while keeping the MTDC power exchange interface nodes at secure levels.

The advancement in cellular communications has enhanced the special attention given to the study of resource allocation *** study is to enhance communications to attain efficiency and thereby offers fairness to all users in the face of congestion experienced anytime a new product is rolled *** comparative analysis was done on the performance of Enhanced Proportional Fair,Qos-Aware Proportional Fair and Logarithmic rule scheduling algorithms in Long Term Evolution in this *** algorithms were simulated using LTE system toolbox in MATLAB and their performances were compared using Throughput,Packet delay and Packet Loss *** results showed Qos-Aware Proportional Fair has a better performance in all the metrics used for the evaluation.

Renewable sources of energy are being integrated into the power grids due to their economic and environmental merits as compared with the traditional fossil-fuel-fired power generation. However, their significant penetration demands a thorough research in terms of system reliability, that is, security and stability. In this paper, Security Constrained Multi Objective Dynamic Economic Dispatch (SCMODED) problem considering cubic thermal cubic cost function, wind, solar penetration, cubic transmission power losses and cubic emissions cost function as objectives is first formulated. Both HVDC and HVAC lines are included in their formulation. Various approaches like probabilistic load flow (PLF), scenario based method, participation factors and Harmony Search algorithm etc. are employed in the solution process. Security and stability effects of renewable energy (RE) penetration are investigated and analyzed. The simulated results reveal that RE penetration leads to reduced cost and emissions and increased security concerns. Further, there is increased power system instability and hence increased load shedding so as to help the power system attain steady state stability. Inclusion of HVDC lines facilitates rapid and fast control to increase the transient stability limit by the action of the converter ignition angle (CIA) and converter extinction angle (CEA).

Case Study: Emerging Advantages of Climate Change for Agriculture in Kano State, North-Western Nigeria

The current climate change is affecting the environment in diverse ways. Some of the effects are good and some others bad. The good side has not been given its deserved attention in Nigeria, nor has it in most parts of the world. Some areas are becoming warmer and wetter, which could enhance agriculture. This paper therefore examined the rainfall and temperature trends as tools of climate change over Kano State, north-western Nigeria, which is an area well known for agriculture. Rainfall and temperature data covering a period of 43 years (1971-2013) were collected and analyzed using the moving averages, regression and correlation statistics. Results obtained showed gradual but steady increases in both temperature and rainfall. The results indicate that Kano State is warming at an average annual rate of 0.011°C and becoming wetter at a rate of 21.26 mm per annum. An implication of this increased rainfall for farmers in the area is the opportunity to increase crop and animal production. This is because more rainfall can now be harvested. Also, soil moisture, rivers, dams, and ponds are being recharged more, thus making water more available and longer lasting for crops and animals.

The major restriction for learning in science and engineering education in Africa is the absence of equipped laboratories. Where laboratory is available, there is the problem of obsolete and antiquated materials, which are seldom available for use. In most Universities in Africa, there is inadequate supply of laboratory space and laboratory materials. The laboratories only have the items of equipment that were provided when the universities were established, this has hampered learning. An alternative educational approach is required to address the aforementioned problems and provide a cost-effective solution for education as well as a valuable complementary or learning tool for university students. The alternative approach is the use of Virtual Reality （VR） technology to simulate virtual learning environments such as virtual reality laboratories. This is a one solution to inadequate physical laboratories in Africa.

Objectives:Spices are low moisture foods which have been known to be contaminated with various pathogens and sun-dried Legon-18 pepper powder is not left *** to its contamination with various pathogens,a study was conducted to determine the effects of gamma irradiation on the decontamination of Legon-18 pepper powder and on some quality ***:Samples were obtained from a local farmer from the Eastern Region of *** tests were carried *** samples were inoculated with known cfu/ml of Escherichia coli,Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella enterica *** were irradiated at 1,2,4,and 5 kilogray(kGy).Zero kilogray served as control(unirradiated).All samples were stored at 4oC for 60 *** of the various pathogens was done in appropriate *** quality parameters were determined after irradiating unsterile samples at 5 kGy and 0 kGy served as *** and carotenoids were quantified using a high performance liquid *** samples were stored at 4oC for 8 ***:A dose-dependent effect on the inactivation of the pathogens was observed(P<0.05).Storage time affected the inactivation of the pathogens as well(P<0.05).Complete inactivation of the pathogens was observed at 5 kGy at day ***,dihydrocapsaicin and total capsaicinoid content of the samples irradiated at 5 kGy increased at 23.64%,14.7%and 20.95%respectively as compared with the contents of the unirradiated samples.A gamma irradiation dose of 5 kGy caused losses of 8.11%,8.67%and 26.54%in capsanthin,beta carotene and beta cryptoxanthin *** parameters measured reduced with storage(P<0.05).Conclusions:Gamma irradiation inactivated pathogens at 5 *** doses used during the study could inactivate the pathogens but with *** quality parameters and carotenoids quantified were affected by gamma irradiation and storage period(P<0.05).
