In recent times,sixth generation(6G)communication technologies have become a hot research topic because of maximum throughput and low delay services for mobile *** encompasses several heterogeneous resource and communication standard in ensuring incessant availability of *** the same time,the development of 6G enables the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)in offering cost and time-efficient solution to several applications like healthcare,surveillance,disaster management,*** UAV networks,energy efficiency and data collection are considered the major process for high quality network *** these procedures are found to be challenging because of maximum mobility,unstable links,dynamic topology,and energy restricted *** issues are solved by the use of artificial intelligence(AI)and energy efficient clustering techniques for UAVs in the 6G *** this inspiration,this work designs an artificial intelligence enabled cooperative cluster-based data collection technique for unmanned aerial vehicles(AECCDC-UAV)in 6G *** proposed AECCDC-UAV technique purposes for dividing the UAV network as to different clusters and allocate a cluster head(CH)to each cluster in such a way that the energy consumption(ECM)gets *** presented AECCDC-UAV technique involves a quasi-oppositional shuffled shepherd optimization(QOSSO)algorithm for selecting the CHs and construct *** QOSSO algorithm derives a fitness function involving three input parameters residual energy of UAVs,distance to neighboring UAVs,and degree of *** performance of the AECCDC-UAV technique is validated in many aspects and the obtained experimental values demonstration promising results over the recent state of art methods.

Accident and hazard prediction models for highway–rail grade crossings:a state-of-the-practice review for the USA

Highway–rail grade crossings(HRGCs)are one of the most dangerous segments of the transportation *** year numerous accidents are recorded at HRGCs between highway users and trains,between highway users and traffic control devices,and solely between highway *** accidents cause fatalities,severe injuries,property damage,and release of hazardous *** and state Departments of Transportation(DOTs)have addressed safety concerns at HRGCs in the USA by investigating the factors that may cause accidents at HRGCs and developed certain accident and hazard prediction models to forecast the occurrence of accidents and crossing *** accident and hazard prediction models are used to identify the most hazardous HRGCs that require safety *** study provides an extensive review of the state-of-the-practice to identify the existing accident and hazard prediction formulae that have been used over the years by different state ***,this study analyzes the common factors that have been considered in the existing accident and hazard prediction *** reported performance and implementation challenges of the identified accident and hazard prediction formulae are discussed in this study as *** on the review results,the US DOT Accident Prediction Formula was found to be the most commonly used formula due to its accuracy in predicting the number of accidents at ***,certain states still prefer customized models due to some practical *** availability and data accuracy were identified as some of the key model implementation challenges in many states across the country.

PCSK9 and carbohydrate metabolism:A double-edged sword

Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK9) plays a paramount role in the degradation of lowdensity lipoprotein(LDL) receptors(LDLR) on the hepatic cells surface and subsequently affects LDL particles catabolism and LDL cholesterol(LDL-c) levels. The anti-PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies lead to substantial decrease of LDL-c concentration. PCSK9(which is also expressed in pancreatic delta-cells) can decrease LDLR and subsequently decrease cholesterol accumulation in pancreatic beta-cells, which impairs glucose metabolism and reduces insulin secretion. Thus, a possible adverse effect of PCSK9 inhibitors on carbohydrate metabolism may be expected by this mechanism, which has been supported by the mendelian studies results. On the other hand, clinical data have suggested a detrimental association of PCSK9 with glucose metabolism. So, the inhibition of PCSK9 may be seen as a double-edged sword regarding carbohydrate metabolism. Completed clinical trials have not shown a detrimental effect of PCSK9 inhibitors on diabetes risk, but their short-term duration does not allow definite conclusions.

Exposure to lead and dietary furan intake aggravates hypothalamus-pituitary-testicular axis toxicity in chronic experimental rats

Lead(Pb) and furan are toxic agents, and persistent exposure may impair human and animal reproductive function. We therefore explored the effects of Pb and furan on male rat hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal reproductive status, oxidative stress, inflammation, and genomic integrity. We found that co-exposure to Pb and furan reduced the activities of testicular function enzymes, endogenous antioxidant levels, total sulfhydryl group,and glutathione. Sperm abnormality, biomarkers of oxidative stress, inflammation, and p53 expression were increased in a dose-dependent manner by treatment with furan and Pb. Typical rat gonad histoarchitecture features were also damaged. Conclusively, co-exposure to Pb and furan induced male reproductive function derangement by decreasing the antioxidant defences in rats, increasing abnormalities in spermatozoa morphology, and reducing reproductive hormone in circulation. These pathophysiological alterations, if persistent, might provide a permissive environment for potentiating reproductive dysfunction and infertility.

由于一些国家的高等教育机构认识到国际学生招聘的重要性,以往的研究针对这些国际留学生在东道国遇到的问题做了比较分析,在寻找方法和策略来帮助他们适应当地文化的研究工作显得越来越重要。同时,随着国际留学生来华深造的趋势不断增强,他们在学习过程中遇到了许多挑战。比如,在人际交往和国际沟通能力、学术科研能力、个人兴趣等因素对国际留学生的适应性的影响,因此本研究在以前的研究基础之上进行衡量国际学生异文化压力、心理健康问题和适应困难的程度以及影响国际留学生幸福感的因素作探讨,为进一步改善国际留学生的心理适应能力提供理论基础。方法:分别从江苏省某高校的留学生中利用问卷星在网上分发了730份问卷,收回713份问卷,最终获得了531份有效问卷。量表主要包括三个部分,修订版社会文化适应量表,留学生版跨文化适应量表和自评健康量表。这三部分分别用于评价文化适应压力、心理健康和适应性困难。对数据进行一般的统计学描述,针对不同年龄、不同性别、来华时间的长短和民族分析健康状态的差异分布,通过SPSS(18.0)软件和SAS对自评幸福感和健康状态的影响因素:社会文化适应、心理适应能力做回归分析,为衡量国际学生跨文化适应与心理健康状态的关系做进一步的理论分析。结果:结果表明社会适应能力与国际留学生的自评幸福感logistic回归分析,偏回归系数差异有统计学意义,两者之间的偏回归系数为-0.138。结果显示社会适应性与国际留学生的自评幸福感存在一定的关联,表明社会适应能力越强,自评幸福感越高,国际留学生在中国的幸福感越强。结果表明心理适应能力与国际留学生的自评幸福感两者之间的偏回归系数为0.063.。显示在心理适应方面上,抑郁心理健康适应能力越高,国际留学生越感觉到幸福。结果还表明,国际学生在理解和说汉语方面遇到困难。其次,国际留学生来华的时间段与国际留学生的性别均有自评健康与健康状态之间有影响,但经济支持尚未发现对健康状态有影响,结果表明心理适应能力、社会文化适应能力均与健康状态有一定的关联,国际留学生在中国的文化适应能力越强,表明心理适应和健康状态越佳,国际留学生在中国的时间越久,社会适应能力和健康状态越高,男性留学生的健康状态要比女性国际留学生的社会适应性强。

Sources of Farm Risk and Management Strategies among Cowpea(Vigna unguiculata SSP)Producers in North East Nigeria

The study identified sources of farm risks and management strategies used among cowpea producers in North East,*** were collected using structured questionnaires from 595 cowpea ***-stage sampling procedure was used to select cowpea producers for the *** the first stage purposive sampling was used to select three(3)states from the six(6)states in the region and these states include Adamawa,Bauchi and Gombe *** these selected states two(2)local governments each were selected based on apriory information on cowpea production from the state Agricultural Development Programs(ADPs)and analysed using descriptive statistics,Likert scale and multiple regression *** result revealed that,pest and diseases emerged as the common source of production risk at 74%.Also,uncertainty from product price 66%was a major source of marketing ***,inadequate credit was an important financial risk at 54%and lack of cooperative 51%were major sources of both financial and institutional *** valid management strategies used in mitigating/coping among cowpea producers were livestock production to complement income,sales of produce,engagement in other jobs/activities,access to ADP’s extension agent among ***,cowpea production is affected by production/environmental risk,marketing risk,financial risk,institutional risk and human/personnel risk and exhibited risk aversion *** study recommends strategy of developing early varieties,disease resistant crops and products that are resistant to pest both in the farm and storage to raise the productivity of ***,cowpea producers’cooperatives should be strengthened with priority given enlightened/educating members,create strong bargaining power for farm products as well as accessing credit ***,inputs such as fertilizers and certified improved high-quality seeds are available and accessible to cowpea producers to increase production and reduce risks.

Effects of Alternative Nitrogen Management Regimes on Production of Eucalyptus in Tropics and Sub-tropics

This paper presents the effects of alternative nitrogen management regimes on production of Eucalyptus in tropics and sub-tropics carried out in autumn, 2011. The aim of the study was to review alternative nitrogen management regimes that could enhance the positive effects and reduce negative effects of different Eucalyptus species in the perspective of smallholders. Literature review was used to survey the alternative nitrogen management regimes on eucalyptus trees. There was a significant improvement （P ≤ 0.01） in mean annual increment （MAI） as measured at seven years of Eucalyptus tereticornis in the plots planted with only legume, pueraria and stylosanthes, compared to that of the control on altitude 150 m and rainfall of 2,000 mm at the age of seven years, The MAI of Eucalyptus urophylla and Eucalyptus camaldulensis in plots planted with beans and rice shows a significant improvement （P ≤ 0.05） over the control treatment. Only the plots treated with nitrogen fertilizer 550 kg/ha showed significant improvement （P ≤ 0.05） in terms of MAI of Eucalyptus nitens, compared to the control treatment. In general, it can be concluded that as these alternative management regimes enhance productivity of Eucalyptus woodlots, the challenge for the small-scale farmers is on how to manage them sustainably. Therefore, forest policies that take consideration of increasing production of Eucalyptus and managing biodiversity with reference to these alternative management regimes should be developed in tropics and sub-tropics.

Evaluation of the Antifungal Activity of Aqueous and Alcoholic Extracts of Six Spices

Background: Nigeria is plagued with a variety of socioeconomic problems mainly poverty, poor access to quality healthcare and poor hygienic conditions resulting in the myriad of fungal infections that are frequently encountered in clinical practice. Method: The antifungal activity of aqueous, methanolic, propanolic and benzyl alcohol extracts of Capsicum annuum fruits and seeds, Capsicum chinense fruits and seeds, Aframomum melegueta pods and seeds, Allium sativum bulbs, Allium cepa bulbs and Zingiber officinale rhizomes on Candida albicans (yeast), Aspergillus niger (mould) and Trichophyton rubrum (dermatophyte) were evaluated by the agar well diffusion method. The aqueous and alcoholic filtered plant extracts were obtained by maceration, and also methanolic extracts were also obtained by Soxhlet extraction. The results were obtained by measuring the inhibition zone diameter in millimeters and were presented by subtracting the activity of the control. Results: Aqueous and methanolic extracts of Allium sativum gave the highest inhibition of the growth of Candida albicans (22 mm), followed closely by its propanolic extract with inhibition zone diameter of 15 mm, and also, propanolic extracts of Aframomum melegueta and Allium cepa gave inhibition zone diameters of 12 mm each. Soxhlet methanolic extract of Allium sativum had the highest inhibition of the growth of Aspergillus niger with an inhibition zone diameter of 25 mm, followed closely by Zingiber officinale Soxhlet methanolic extract with an inhibition zone diameter of 22 mm, also, the propanolic extract of Allium sativum gave an inhibition zone diameter of 21 mm, whereas Soxhlet methanolic extracts of Aframomum melegueta and Allium cepa gave an inhibition zone diameter of 19 mm each. The highest activity against Trichophyton rubrum was obtained with the Soxhlet methanolic extract of Allium sativum (39 mm), followed closely by its propanolic extract with an inhibition zone diameter of 27 mm. Geo-Spatial Assessment of Vegetation Response to Drought in North Central Nigeria

The thrust of this paper is to examine the impact of drought risk on vegetation health in North Central Nigeria. The study applied remote sensing, Geographic information system (GIS) and statistical techniques as research methodologies. Monthly rainfall data which span through a period of 56 years (1960-2017) were obtained from Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) for analysis of variation and drought characterization using SPI. Consequently, drought risk maps were produced for three different periods: 2000-2005, 2005-2010 and 2010-2015. The study made use of the near real time data of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Terra and Aqua Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) of 16 Day L3 Global 250 m resolution from 2000 to 2016 for analysis of vegetation health. The results of the study proved the efficacy of NDVI in highlighting areas that are currently under vegetation stress, reduction and drought. The states with reduced and low vegetation cover corresponded well to those with low rainfall hence, more vulnerable to drought risk. The summary of the NDVI results showed that Niger, plateau and Nasarawa states have low vegetation cover and are more vulnerable to drought risk.
