The polar and nonpolar extracts of Colpom.nia sinuosa, Padina pavonia, Cystoseira barbata and Sargassum.vulgare collected during spring, sum.er and autum. were evaluated for their antifungal activities. The phytochem.cals of unexplored seaweeds were analyzed by gas chrom.tography and m.ss spectrom.tric （GC/m.）. The algal extracts were tested for their antifungal activities against Aspergillus niger, A. flavus, Penicillium.parasiticus, Candida utilis and Fusarium.solani. Phytochem.cals were extracted from.the four seaweeds with various solvents including m.thanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform.and dim.thyl ether. Am.ng the various extracts, m.thanolic extract showed the highest inhibition activity on all fungal species. Seasonal variation in antifungal activity was studied, while m.thanol extracts showed the best antifungal activity in spring. Cystoseira barbata was the m.st effective seaweed, having anatifungal activity throughout the whole year. The UV-Vis phytochem.cal procedure and GC-m. analysis of the m.thanol extracts from.tested species indicated the existence of different constituents. In conclusions, the com.ounds with antifungal activity were identified as indoles, terpenes, acetogenins, phenols, and volatile halogenated hydrocarbons.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the efficacy of Fig fruit powder and olive on hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced by 2-nitropropane(2-NP)in m.ce,especially if they were used in ***:A total of 40 adult BALB/c m.le m.ce weighting 25-30 g/*** were categorized into five groups(8 each).Group 1 as negative *** 2 as positive control group intraperitoneally injected with 2-NP(100 m./kg b.w.)3 tim.s/weekly for eight *** 3 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplem.nted with Fig(300 m./kg).Group 4 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplem.nted with olive(100 m./kg).Group 5 injected with 2-NP and were orally supplem.nted with m.xture of Fig and olive(3∶1 respectively).RESULTS:Histopathological observation of liver in m.ce treated with 2-NP showed cellular degeneration,pyknosis,and congestion of the portal *** kidney there were disorganization of the cortical tissues,cellular necrosis and plenty of inflam.atory lym.hocytic *** elevations in liver function param.ters(alanine am.notransferase and aspartate am.notransferase),m.RNA expression levels of tum.r necrosis factor-α,nicotinam.de adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase and cyclooxygenase were detected as anti-inflam.atory m.rkers and 5-lipoxygenase,interleukin-1βand interleukin-6 as inflam.atory biom.rkers for liver and spleen,also significant elevations was detected in lipid peroxidation *** levels of antioxidants,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,catalase and superoxide dism.tase were significantly ***:our findings indicated that Fig fruit powder and olive protected against hepatic,renal and splenic injury induced with 2-NP in m.ce,especially if they were used in com.ination.

Essential oils (EOs) are the volatile lipophilic com.onents extracted from.plants. m.ny EOs have dem.nstrated strong antim.crobial properties when tested in in vitro experim.nts. The com.ercial applications of these EOs require a suitable form.lation constituted by biodegradable com.ounds that protect them.from.degradation and evaporation at the sam. tim. that allows for a sustained release. The objective of this study was therefore to reduce the rate of evaporation of the oil via m.croencapsulation. Alginate m.crospheres (Am.s) were prepared using em.lsion extrusion m.thod. The Am.s were hardened with a cross-linking agent, calcium.chloride. The effects of the three variables: alginate concentration (0.5% - 8%), the am.unt of cross-linking agent (0.125% - 2%) and tim. of cross-linking (5 - 30 m.n.) on loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency (EE, %) were studied. The effect of the am.unt of cross-linker was significant on loading capacity (%) and EE (%). The Am.s under the optim.zed conditions provided loading capacity of 22% - 24% and EE of 90% - 94% based on type of EO. The antifungal activity of vapors of m.croencapsulated and non-m.croencapsulated oils were evaluated against two of pathogenic fungi species for stored grains: Aspergillus niger and Fusarium.verticillioides. The optim.zed m.s were observed to have a sustained in vitro release profile (50% of the antifungal activity was m.intained at the 8th day of the study). In conclusion, encapsulation in Ca-alginate m.crospheres m.y effectively reduce the evaporation rate of essential oils, thus?increase the potential antifungal activity.

AIm. To identify the trend, possible risk factors and any pattern change of hepatocellular carcinom. （HCC） in Egypt over a decade. m.THODS： All HCC patients attending Cairo Liver Center between January 1993 and Decem.er 2002, were enrolled in the study. Diagnosis of HCC was based on histopathological exam.nation and/or detection of hepatic focal lesions by two im.ging techniques plus α-fetoprotein level above 200 ng/m.. The duration of the study was divided into two periods of 5 years each; period Ⅰ （1993-1997） and period Ⅱ （1998-2002）. Trend, dem.graphic features of patients （age, gender, and residence）, risk factors （HBsAg, HCV-Ab, schistosom.asis and others） and pattern of the focal lesions were com.ared between the two periods. Logistic regression m.del was fitted to calculate the adjusted odds ratios for the potential risk factors. The population attributable risk percentage was calculated to estim.te the proportion of HCC attributed to hepatitis B and C viral infections. RESULTS： Over a decade, 1 328 HCC patients out of 22 450 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients were diagnosed with an overall proportion of 5.9%. The annual proportion of HCC showed a significant rising trend from.4.0% in 1993 to 7.2% in 2002 （P = 0.000）. A significant increase in m.le proportion from.82.5% to 87.6% （P = 0.009）; m.F from.5：1 to 7：1 and a slight increase of the predom.nant age group （40-59 years） from.62.6% to 66.8% （P = 0.387）in periods Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively, reflecting a shift to younger age group. In the bivariate analysis, HCC was significantly higher in rural residents, patients with history of schistosom.asis and/or blood transfusion. Yet, after adjustm.nt, these variables did not have a significant risk for developm.nt of HCC. There was a significant decline of HBsAg from.38.6% to 20.5% （P = 0.000）, and a slight increase of HCV-Ab from.85.6% to 87.9% in periods I and II respectively. Objective:To investigate the activity of Egyptian propolis extracts(ethanol and water)on cryptosporidiosis in experim.ntally infected dexam.thasone-im.unosuppressed ***:A total of 180 m.le rats(190-220)g BWt were random.y divided into 9 equal groups(G1-G9).Groups of rats were kept as(G1):norm.l control,(G2-G9):im.unosuppressed with dexam.thasone and(G3-G9):infected with Cryptosporidium.*** from.G4to G9)were given orally ethanol and water extract of propolis(at a dose of 50 m./kg BWt)and nitazoxanide(standard anti-cryptosporidial drug at a dose of 100 m./kg BWt)to infected rats with different *** pellets were collected from.all groups to m.nitor oocysts shedding from.the 2nd to the 15th day post *** the end of the experim.nt,blood was collected from.all groups for determ.nation of leukogram.and serum.*** specim.ns were also exam.ned ***:The highest reduction of oocysts shedding in faecal sam.les was 88%in rats prophylactically treated with propolis ethanol extract at the 4th dpi,and in rats prophylactically treated with water extract of propolis,was91%at the 6th *** was a m.rked increase in neutrophils count and α_2-andβ-globulins levels in infected rats treated with both extracts,while a significant decrease was detected in lym.hocytes com.ared to the infected non treated group.β-globulin level m.rkedly increased in the rats adm.nistered *** changes were observed in the ileum.of rats infected with ***:Egyptian propolis extracts have an activity on cryptosporidiosis in ***,propolis m.dulated the im.unity in dexam.thasone-im.unosuppressed rats.

In this work we used the Gaussian plum. m.del to calculate the actual m.xim.m.ground level concentration (m.LC) of air pollutant and its downwind location by using different system. of dispersion param.ters and for different stack heights. An approxim.te form.la for the prediction of downwind position that produces the m.LC of a pollutant based on the Gaussian form.la was derived for different diffusion param.ters. The derived form.la was used to calculate the approxim.te m.LC. The actual and estim.ted values are presented in tables. The com.arison between the actual and estim.ted values was investigated through the calculation of the relative errors. The values of the relative errors between the actual and estim.ted m.LC lie in the range from. 0 to 70.2 and 0 to 1.6 for Pasquill Gifford system.and Klug system.respectively. The errors between the actual and estim.ted location of the m.LC lies in the range from. 0.2 to 227 and 0.7 to 9.4 for Pasquill Gifford system.and Klug system.respectively.

Biogas is a renewable and clean energy source that plays an im.ortant role in the current environm.nt of lowcarbon *** high-content CO_(2) in biogas can be separated,transform.d,and utilized,it not only realizes high-value utilization of biogas but also prom.tes carbon reduction in the biogas *** im.rove the com.ustion stability of biogas,an inhom.geneous,partially prem.xed stratified(IPPS)com.ustion m.del was adopted in this *** therm.l flam. structure and stability were investigated for a wide range of m.xture inhom.geneities,turbulence levels,CO_(2) concentrations,air-to-fuel velocity ratios,and com.ustion energies in a concentric flow slot burner(CFSB).A fine-wire therm.couple is used to resolve the therm.l flam. *** flam. size was reduced by increasing the CO_(2) concentration and the flam.s becam. lighter *** flam. tem.erature also decreased with increase in CO_(2) *** stability was reduced by increasing the CO_(2) ***,at a certain level of m.xture inhom.geneity,the concentration of CO_(2) in the IPPS m.de did not affect the ***,the IPPS m.de of com.ustion should be suitable for the com.ustion and stabilization of *** should support the design of highly stabilized biogas turbulent flam.s independent of CO_(2) *** data show that the lower stability conditions are partially due to the change in fuel com.ustion energy,which is characterized by the Wobbe index(WI).In addition,at a certain level of m.xture inhom.geneity,the effect of the WI on flam. stability becom.s dom.nant.

Sorafenib was the first m.ltikinase inhibitor to be approved for use in m.tastatic renal cell carcinom.. Olm.sartan m.doxom.l used in treatm.nt of hypertension and was reported to inhibit angiogenesis in several m.dels. The present study was designed to assess the safety of a com.ination of sorafenib plus olm.sartan com.ared to m.notherapies in m.ce bearing Ehrlich’s ascites carcinom. cell line. m.ce were divided to seven groups, 1) norm.l m.ce, 2) Ehrlich’s ascites carcinom. control, 3 - 5) olm.sartan (3, 10, 30 m./kg/day), respectively, 6) sorafenib (30 m./kg/day) and 7) the com.ination group: m.ce received olm.sartan (30 m./kg/day) plus sorafenib. All drug treatm.nts continued for 21 days. At the end of the experim.nt, a com.lete blood count was perform.d and kidney and liver functions were estim.ted. The com.ination therapy produced a non-significant change in m.st of the m.asurem.nts of com.lete blood count and liver enzym.s when com.ared to norm.l anim.ls. On the other hand, the com.ined therapy significantly increased blood urea nitrogen when com.ared to norm.l group but did not change the serum.creatinine level. Concom.tant adm.nistration of olm.sartan with sorafenib did not significantly augm.nt the toxicity of the later. Therefore;olm.sartan m.ght be a safe candidate with sorafenib in treatm.nt of cancer if clinical data proved the benefit of this com.ination.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of m.ringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract as an adjunct treatm.nt on lead acetate induced hepatonephrotoxicity in rabbits. m.thods: Thirty-six m.le New Zealand White rabbits were assigned into two m.in groups. The first group(14 rabbits) served as norm.l control. The second group(22 rabbits) was adm.nistered orally with lead acetate at a dose of 40 m./kg/day, 5 days/week for 8 weeks. At the 4 th and the 8 th week of treatm.nt, 6 anim.ls(3 anim.ls at each period) of the second group were sacrificed while the rem.ining anim.ls(16 rabbits) were assigned random.y into 2 subgroups(8 rabbits each): treated and non-treated. The first subgroup was orally given 1 m.L phosphate-buffered saline for further 4 weeks while the second subgroup was adm.nistered orally with m.ringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract at a dose of 400 m./kg/day for the sam. period. Blood sam.les were collected to determ.ne hem.tological and serum.biochem.cal indices. Tissue specim.ns were collected from.the liver and kidney for evaluation of the oxidant/antioxidant m.rkers and for histopathological ***: Lead acetate exposure decreased the m.an body weight gain, hem.tocrit, hem.globin, m.an corpuscular volum., and lym.hocytes count. m.reover, it m.rkedly increased counts of m.nocytes and platelets, serum.enzym. activity, levels of creatinine, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. m.londialdehyde level was m.rkedly increased while the reduced glutathione content was significantly decreased in liver tissue of lead intoxicated-rabbits. Histopathological alterations were also noticed in the liver and kidney of lead intoxicated rabbits. m.ringa oleifera leaf ethanol extract significantly im.roved hem.tological and serum.biochem.cal param.ters and histopathological structure of the liver and kidney.
