Symptoms of spinal dysfunction mimicking systemic diseases(ogundana Syndrome):a review of 35 cases treated with manual therapy over 30 years

objective and Method:Symptoms manifesting in other parts of the body signaling the existence of spinal dysfunction(ogundana Syndrome)in patients(N=35,age range 20-56yrs;mean age 36yrs)diagnosed to have systemic diseases but treated with manual therapy were identified after a 30 year case note ***:Incipient parkinsonism(general edema and expressionless mask face),stroke(weakness of one side of the body),tinnitus(headache with noise in one or both ears),breast cancer(breast pain)and dyspnea(difficulty in breathing)were some physician diagnoses and clinical symptoms *** percent rate occurrence was noted affecting significantly more females(74%)than males(26%,Polved people with family history of back pain(66%)engaged in low income occupations(farming 40%,trading 25%,artisans 15% and civil servants 20%).Symptoms got better after vertical oscillatory pressure therapy to appropriate spinal *** of treatment was influenced by duration of spinal dysfunction prior to therapy and age of younger ***:one percent of patients with spinal dysfunction misdiagnosed to have systemic diseases due to misleading symptoms are finally referred for physiotherapy of manifesting *** therapy to the appropriate vertebro-geographic region(s)relieves the symptom(s)without prejudice to existing diagnosis.

Sensing nanoscale electromagnetic forces when the heat is on

In scanning probe microscopy(SPM),a sharp tip scans across a sample to produce an image with nanometer-scale resolution or better. SPM contrast is derived from the physical interplay between the tip and the sample. A special class of SPM techniques measures forces when the tip–sample junction is illuminated by an external light source. Photo-induced forces can be sensitive to the optical properties of the sample, thus enabling nanoscale imaging with spectroscopic,material-specific contrast.

Smoking cessation prior to elective total joint arthroplasty results in sustained abstinence postoperatively

BACKGRoUND Tobacco use is a well-documented modifiable risk factor for perioperative *** To determine the tobacco abstinence rates of patients who made cessation efforts prior to a total joint arthroplasty(TJA)*** A retrospective evaluation was performed on 88 self-reported tobacco users who underwent TJA between 2014-2022 and had tobacco cessation dates within 3 mo of *** patients were contacted via phone survey to understand their tobacco use pattern,and patient reported outcomes.A total of 37 TJA patients *** our cohort was on average 61-years-old,60%(n=22)women,with an average body mass index of 30 kg/m^(2).The average follow-up time was 2.9±1.9 years.A total of 73.0%(n=27)of patients endorsed complete abstinence from tobacco use prior to *** cessation methods were used perioperatively including prescription therapy(13.5%),over the counter nicotine replacement(18.9%),cessation programs(5.4%).At final follow up,43.2%(n=16)of prior tobacco smokers reported complete *** who were able to maintain cessation postoperatively had improved Patient-Reported outcomes Measurement Information System(PRoMIS)-10 mental health scores(49 vs 58;P=0.01),and hip dysfunction and osteoarthritis outcome score for joint replacement(***)scores(63 vs 82;P=0.02).No patients in this cohort had a prosthetic joint infection or required revision *** We report a tobacco cessation rate of 43.2%in patients undergoing elective TJA nearly 3 years *** undergoing TJA who were able to remain abstinent had improved PRoMIS-10 mental health scores and *** *** perioperative period provides clinicians a unique opportunity to assist active tobacco smokers with cessation efforts and improve postoperative outcomes.
