BACkGROUND Tourniquets are commonly used in elective extremity orthopaedic surgery to reduce blood loss,improve visualization in the surgical field,and to potentially reduce surgical *** is a lack of consensus in existing guidelines regarding the optimal tourniquet pressure,placement site,and duration of *** is a paucity of data on the relationship between the site of a tourniquet and postoperative pain in foot and ankle *** To explore the relationship between tourniquet site and intensity of post-operative pain scores in patients undergoing elective foot and ankle *** Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data on 201 patients who underwent foot and ankle surgery in a single institution was *** tourniquet duration,tourniquet pressure and site,and postoperative pain scores using Visual Analogue score were collected in immediate recovery,at six hours and at 24 h *** plots were used to analyse the data and to assess for the statistical correlation between tourniquet pressure,duration,site,and pain scores using Pearson correlation *** All patients who underwent foot and ankle surgery had tourniquet pressure of 250 mmHg for ankle tourniquet and 300 mmHg for *** was no correlation between the site of the tourniquet and pain scores in recovery,at six hours and after 24 *** was a weak correlation between tourniquet time and Visual Analogue score immediately post-op(r=0.14,P=0.04)but not at six or 24 h *** This study shows that there was no statistically significant correlation between tourniquet pressure,site and postop pain in patients undergoing foot and ankle *** choice of using a tourniquet is based on the surgeon's preference,with the goal of minimizing the duration of its application at the operative site.

Magnetic and flotation studies of banded hematite quartzite (BHQ) ore for the production of pellet grade concentrate

To identify and establish beneficiation techniques for banded hematite quartzite （BHQ） iron ore, a comprehensive research on BHQ ore treatment was carried out. The BHQ ore was assayed as 38.9wt% Fe, 42.5wt% siO2, and 1.0wt% Al2O3. In this ore, hematite and quartz are present as the major mineral phases where goethite, martite, and magnetite are present in small amounts. The liberation of hematite particles can be enhanced to about 82% by reducing the particle size to below 63 μm. The rejection of silica particles can be obtained by magnetic and flotation separation techniques. Overall, the BHQ ore can be enriched to 65.3wt% Fe at 61.9% iron recovery. A flowsheet has been suggested for the commercial exploitation of the BHQ ore.

With an aim to improve the transient stability of a DFIG wind farm penetrated multimachine power system(MPN),an adaptive fractional integral terminal sliding mode power control(AFITsMPC)strategy has been proposed for the unified power flow controller(UPFC),which is compensating the *** proposed AFITsMPC controls the dq-axis series injected voltage,which controls the admittance model(AM)of the *** a result the power output of the DFIG stabilizes which helps in maintaining the equilibrium between the electrical and mechanical power of the nearby *** the rotor angular deviation of the respective generators gets recovered,which significantly stabilizes the *** proposed AFITsMPC for the admittance model of the UPFC has been validated in a DFIG wind farm penetrated 2 area 4 machine power system in the MATLAB *** robustness and efficacy of the proposed control strategy of the UPFC,in contrast to the conventional PI control is vindicated under a number of intrinsic operating conditions,and the results analyzed are satisfactory.

The present study deals with the development of a low carbon high strength steel by thermomechanical controlled processing on a pilot *** continuous cooling transformation has yielded a flat top "C" curve with the phase field occupied by a mixture of bainite and *** microstructure of water quenched steel essentially consists of highly dislocated lath martensite along with fine (Ti,Nb)CN precipitates and *** strength steel with 1217-1298 MPa yield strength and 1372-1513 MPa ultimate tensile strength along with 16-12% total elongation has been obtained in the range of 850 to 750℃ finish rolling *** impact toughness value in the range of 45-72J was also achieved in the present steel.

Dengue virus non-structural 1 protein interacts with heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H in human monocytic cells

Objective: To study protein-protein interaction between heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H(hn RNP H) and Dengue virus(DENV) proteins. Methods: DENV proteins were screened against the host hn RNP H protein, in order to identify the host-viral protein-protein interactions in DENV infected THP-1 cells by co-immunoprecipitation. The co-localization of the interacting proteins was further confirmed by immunofluorescence microscopy. Results: The host protein hn RNP H was found to interact with DENV nonstructural 1 protein and help the virus to multiply in the cell. Conclusions: The non-structural 1 glycoprotein is a key modulator of host immune response and is also involved in viral replication. Therefore, disruption of this key interaction between hn RNP H and DENV nonstructural 1 could be an important therapeutic strategy for management of DENV infection.

Upgradation of bauxite by molecular hydrogen and hydrogen plasma

An approach was developed to upgrade the bauxite ore by molecular hydrogen and hydrogen plasma. A gibbsite-type bauxite sample was obtained from National Aluminium Company（NALCO）, Odisha, India. The obtained sample was crushed and sieved（to 100 μm） prior to the chemical analysis and grain-size distribution study. The bauxite sample was calcined in the temperature range from 500 to 700°C for different time intervals to optimize the conditions for maximum moisture removal. This process was followed by the reduction of the calcined ore by molecular hydrogen and hydrogen plasma. Extraction of alumina from the reduced ore was carried out via acid leaching in chloride media for 2 h at 60°C. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetry in conjunction with differential scanning calorimetry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy were used to determine the physicochemical characteristics of the material before and after extraction. Alumina extracted from the reduced ore at the optimum calcination temperature of 700°C and the optimum calcination time of 4 h is found to be 90% pure.

Effect of friction stir processed microstructure on tensile properties of an Al-Zn-Mg-sc alloy upon subsequent aging heat treatment

An as-cast Al-Zn-Mg-sc alloy was friction stir processed varying tool related parameters, yielding microstructures with different grain sizes （0.68, 1.8 and 5.5 μm）. significant increases in room temperature ductility were obtained in these materials with reasonable enhancement in strength. It is demonstrated that the type of microstructure produced by friction stir processing （FsP） has a significant influence on the choice of post-FsP heat treatment design for achieving improved tensile properties. It is also found that the ultrafine grained FsP material could not achieve the desired high strength during the post-FsP heat treatment without grain coarsening, whereas the micro-grained FsP materials could reach such strength levels （〉560 MPa） under conventional age hardening heat treatment conditions.

Property enhancement of cast iron used for nuclear casks

Ductile iron （DI） is a preferred material for use in various structural, automotive, and engineering fields because of its excellent combination of strength, toughness, and ductility. In the current investigation, we elucidate the relationship between the morphological and mechanical properties of DI intended for use in safety applications in the nuclear industry. DI specimens with various alloying elements were subjected to annealing and austempering heat treatment processes. A faster cooling rate appeared to increase the nodule count in austempered specimens, compensating for their nodularity value and subsequently decreasing their ductility and impact strength. The ductility and impact energy values of annealed specimens increased with increasing ferrite area fraction and nodularity, whereas an increase in the amounts of Ni and Cr resulted in an increase of hardness via solid solution strengthening. Austempered specimens were observed to be stronger than an- nealed specimens and failed in a somewhat brittle manner characterized by a river pattern, whereas the ductile failure mode was character- ized by the presence of dimples.

This article describes the influence of controlling in-flight hot particle characteristics on properties of plasma sprayed nanostructured yttria stabilized zirconia(YsZ)*** article depicts dependence of adhesion strength of as-sprayed nanostructured YsZ coatings on particle temperature,velocity and size of the splat prior to impact on the metallic *** temperature measurement is based on two-color pyrometry and particle velocities are measured from the length of the particle traces during known exposure *** microstructure and adhesion strength of as-sprayed nano-YsZ coatings were *** emission scanning electron microscopy results revealed that morphology of coating exhibits bimodal microstructure consisting of nano-zones reinforced in the matrix of fully melted *** coating adhesion strength is noticed to be greatly affected by the melting state of *** adhesion strength of 42.39 MPa has been experimentally found out by selecting optimum levels of particle temperature and *** enhanced bond strength of nano-YsZ coating may be attributed to higher interfacial toughness due to cracks being interrupted by adherent nano-zones.
