Genomic signatures of selection,local adaptation and production type characterisation of East Adriatic sheep breeds

Background The importance of sheep breeding in the Mediterranean part of the eastern Adriatic has a long tradition since its arrival during the Neolithic *** production system is extensive and generally carried out in traditional systems without intensive systematic breeding programmes for high uniform trait production(carcass,wool and milk yield).Therefore,eight indigenous Croatian sheep breeds from eastern Adriatic treated here as metapopulation(EAS),are generally considered as multipurpose breeds(milk,meat and wool),not specialised for a particular type of production,but known for their robustness and resistance to certain environmental *** objective was to identify genomic regions and genes that exhibit patterns of positive selection signatures,decipher their biological and productive functionality,and provide a"genomic"characterization of EAS adaptation and determine its production *** We identified positive selection signatures in EAS using several methods based on reduced local variation,linkage disequilibrium and site frequency spectrum(eROHi,iHS,nSL and CLR).Our analyses identified numerous genomic regions and genes(e.g.,desmosomal cadherin and desmoglein gene families)associated with environmental adaptation and economically important *** candidate genes were related to meat/production and health/immune response traits,while some of the candidate genes discovered were important for domestication and evolutionary processes(e.g.,HOXa gene family and FSIP2).These results were also confirmed by GO and QTL enrichment *** Our results contribute to a better understanding of the unique adaptive genetic architecture of EAS and define its productive type,ultimately providing a new opportunity for future breeding *** the same time,the numerous genes identified will improve our understanding of ruminant(sheep)robustness and resistance in the harsh and specific Mediterranean environment.

Media Sporting Events as Platforms for‘Soft Power’and Digital Activism

Mediatic sporting events are increasingly used in the geopolitical arena to gain consensus, at the same time emerging as platforms for the discussion of social issues, such as human rights and sustainability. This article presents an investigation into the role of mediatic sporting events and digital platforms in sparking political debate and social engagement to bring about change, including discussions on global and local interests and the performances of activist fans to promote debate on specific issues. The investigation employs a quantitative methodology. The initial inductive analysis uses a matrix of cultural key-frames of the empowerment and protest that accompany media sporting events, verifying their presence and effectiveness in different communication milieus. An analysis of the representation of protests on social media was performed through content analysis. The results of the investigation show that mediatic sporting events are to be understood as a diverse range of generators of multiple political effects: from the exercise of power to mass mobilization and media criticism.

Acute pancreatitis as a complication of acute COVID-19 in kidney transplant recipients

This study investigates the potential of contemporary Earth-Sheltered Buildings to contribute to sustainable societies by achieving Plus Energy Building status during the heating *** buildings analyzed are intended to house a four-member family(102.5 m^(2)).The house is equipped with a ground source heat pump,geothermal vertical probes,floor heating panels,an energy recovery ventilator,and building-integrated photovoltaic panels installed on the exposed building *** numerical analysis(using EnergyPlus software)was carried out for nine European sites covering five different climatic zones(namely:southern,Atlantic,continental,alpine,and northern climate)and three latitude belts spanning Europe from south to *** above 65°N(northern and alpine climate)could not achieve Plus Energy status with 20% efficient *** 15% efficient BIPVs,the building above 59°N(northern climate)was incapable of achieving this as *** the monthly time step,the buildings in the southern and Atlantic climates with 15% efficient BiPVs were able to produce an energy surplus every month,as was the building in theAlps with 20% efficientBIPVs.

Clinical implications of hepatitis B virus mutations:Recent advances

Hepatitis B virus(HBV)infection is a major cause of acute and chronic hepatitis,and of its long-term *** is the most variable among DNA viruses,mostly because of its unique life cycle which includes the activity of error-prone enzyme,reverse transcriptase,and the very high virion production per *** last two decades,numerous research studies have shown that the speed of disease progression,reliability of diagnostic methods and the success of antiviral therapy and immunization are all influenced by genetic variability of this *** was shown that mutations in specific regions of HBV genome could be responsible for unwanted clinical outcomes or evasion of detection by diagnostic tools,thus making the monitoring for these mutations a necessity in proper evaluation of *** success of the vaccination programs has now been challenged by the discovery of mutant viruses showing amino acid substitutions in hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg),which may lead to evasion of vaccine-induced ***,the emergence of these mutations has not yet raised concern since it was shown that they develop *** of HBV genetic variability and clinical implications of specific mutations have resulted in significant advances over the past decade,particularly in regard to management of resistance to antiviral *** the era of drugs with high genetic barrier for resistance,on-going monitoring for possible resistance is still essential since prolonged therapy is often *** the frequencies and clinical implications of viral mutations may contribute to improvement of diagnostic procedures,more proper planning of immunization programs and creating the most efficient therapeutic protocols.

CHARACTERIZATIONS OF COMPACT OPERATORS ON SOME EULER SPACES OF DIFFERENCE SEQUENCES OF ORDER m

In the past, several authors studied spaces of m-th order difference sequences, among them, *** and *** （[17]） defined the Euler spaces of m-th order difference sequences e r 0 （△ （ m ））, e r c （△ （ m ）） and e r ∞ （△ （ m ）） and characterized some classes of matrix transformations on them. In our paper, we add a new supplementary aspect to their research by characterizing classes of compact operators on those spaces. For that purpose, the spaces are treated as the matrix domains of a triangle in the classical sequence spaces c 0 , c and ∞ . The main tool for our characterizations is the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness.
