Bmi, WC, WHtR, VFI and BFI: Which Indictor is the Most Efficient Screening Index on Type 2 Diabetes in Chinese Community Population

Objective Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, many indexes can be used to describes obesity and predict diabetes. This research attempts to identify the best indicator of obesity to screening diabetes in Chinese population. Methods A cross-sectional data of 8121 subjects aged 35-60 years were included in this research belongs to the Diabetes Appropriate Technology Intervention Study. Anthropometric indicators including body weight, height, waist circumferences （WC）, body fat index （BFI） and visceral fat index （VFI） and blood biochemical indicators after an overnight fast [fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein （HDL） cholesterol, and triacylglycerol] were measured. Bmi （body mass index） and Weight to Height Ratio was calculated. Results Subjects with obesity had a higher risk of physician diagnosed diabetes （0R=2.50, 95% CI 1.83-3.43）, new diagnosed diabetes （0R=4.23, 95% Cl 2.91-6.15） and pre-diabetes （0R=1.75, 95% CI 1.31-2.34） compared to those with normal Body mass index （Bmi）. There was a significant trend of increased risk of all diabetes status with increased waist circumference （WC）. The waist-to-height ratio （WHtR） yielded the most significant association with new diagnosed diabetes and physician diagnosed diabetes than other indices. Conclusion Central obesity is significantly correlated with diabetes. VFI was most correlated with pre-diabetes while WHtR is an efficient screening index than Bmi and WC in Chinese community diabetes screening.

Sequential Inverse Optimal Control of Discrete-Time Systems

This paper presents a novel sequential inverse optimal control(SIOC)method for discrete-time systems,which calculates the unknown weight vectors of the cost function in real time using the input and output of an optimally controlled discrete-time *** proposed method overcomes the limitations of previous approaches by eliminating the need for the invertible Jacobian *** calculates the possible-solution spaces and their intersections sequentially until the dimension of the intersection space decreases to *** remaining one-dimensional vector of the possible-solution space’s intersection represents the SIOC *** paper presents clear conditions for convergence and addresses the issue of noisy data by clarifying the conditions for the singular values of the matrices that relate to the possible-solution *** effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through simulation results.

Theoretical study on the stability of nanobubbles and its verification in molecular dynamics simulation

The stability of vapor nanobubbles in bulk liquid was investigated theoretically and the critical bubble size was derived from macroscale thermodynamic equations,below which the system destabilizes with sharp drop in *** critical size was quantitatively verified in molecular dynamic simulation using the Lennard-Jones model of argon,where stronger attraction between the molecules at lower density is found to contribute most to the drop of system pressure and,as the Laplace pressure on the curved bubble interface fails to balance the pressure difference across the interface,the bubbles become *** theoretical model could be extended to other systems where reliable equations of state and interfacial tension are available.

Objective To examine the association between habitual sleep duration and obesity among Chinese adults. Methods The association of sleep duration and obesity was investigated among 7,094 community-dwelling Chinese adults. Sleep duration was self-reported. In this study, obesity was defined as follows： body mass index （Bmi） ≥ 28 kg/m^2, waist circumference （WC） ≥ 85 cm in men and ≥ 80 cm in women, and percent body fat （%BF） ≥ 25 in men and ≥ 35 in women. Logistic and quantile regressions were employed to examine relationships of interest. Results Overall, 6.42% of the participants reported short sleep durations （〈 6 h/d） while 14.71% reported long （≥ 9 h/d） sleep durations. Long sleepers （≥ 9 h/d） represented a greater frequency of women with obesity [odds ratio （OR）： 1.30; 95% confidence interval （CI）, 1.02-1.67] and high body fat （1.43, 1.04-1.96） than those who slept 7-8 h/d. An association between long sleep times and higher Bmi estimations was found across the 10th-75th percentile of the Bmi distribution. Among men, long sleepers （≥ 9 h/d） presented lower risks of developing abdominal obesity compared with individuals who slept 7-8 h/d （OR = 0.79, 95% CI： 0.44-0.99）. Conclusion Our study suggests that long sleep durations are associated with general obesity in Chinese women but reduced waist circumferences in men. Confirmatory studies are needed to determine the heterogeneous association of sleep time and obesity by gender.

Negative Association of Domestic Activity and Active Commuting with Metabolic Syndrome in a Chinese Population Aged 35-64 Years

Objective To understand the associations of physical activity domains with metabolic syndrome among a middle-aged Chinese population. Methods In all, 3326 professional adults aged 35-64 years from Beijing and Zhejiang province were recruited with a cluster random sampling method. The Global Physical Activity Questionnaire was modified, and the recommended Asia-Pacific cut-offs of waist circumstance were introduced into the criteria for metabolic syndrome from the Adult Treatment Panel III. A binary logistic regression model was applied to examine the association of all physical activity domains with the risk of the syndrome. Results Participants who engaged in domestic activity for 〉1176 MET-min/week had a 41.6% less chance of having metabolic syndrome [odds ratio （OR）, 0.584; 95% confidence interval （CI）, 0.480-0.710] than those without this activity. In adjusted models, adults who actively commuted for 〉33 MET-rain/week but 〈52g MET-min/week had a 25% less chance of having the syndrome （OR, 0.750; 95% CI, 0.582-0.966） than those who did not. No interaction was detected between the two domains of activity and the syndrome. Conclusion This study highlighted the independently negative association of traffic and house activity with the prevalence of the syndrome in this sample with a generally low level of moderate activity.

Objective Obesity is recognized as a significant risk factor for diabetes and hypertension. The present study aimed to examine the associations between adults' obesity risk and childhood and parental obesity. Methods A total of 204 children aged 6-17 years were recruited in 2002 with an average follow-up period of 13.2 years. Height and body weight were measured by trained staffs. Overweight and obesity were defined based on the Chinese standard for children and adults. T-test, analysis of variance, and Chi-square analysis were used for single factor analysis. Multiple linear and logistic regression analyses were used to perform multifactor analysis. Results The percentage of non-obese children who grew up to be non-obese adults was 62.6%, and that of obese children who grew up to be obese adults was 80.0%. There was a significant association between childhood body mass index(Bmi) and adulthood Bmi with a β regression coefficient of 3.76 [95% confidence interval(CI): 1.36-6.16], and between childhood obesity and adulthood obesity with an odds ratio of 5.76(95% CI: 1.37-24.34). There was no statistical difference between parental obesity at baseline and children's adulthood obesity, after adjustment of confounders. Male participants and those aged 10.0-13.0 years had a higher risk of adulthood obesity with odds ratios of 2.50(95% CI: 1.12-5.26) and 3.62(95% CI: 1.17-11.24), respectively. Conclusion Childhood obesity is an important predictor of adulthood obesity.

Effect of Mo and cold forging deformation on strength and ductility of cobalt-based alloy L605

Mo element was added to cobalt-based alloy L605,and cold forging deformation was *** effects of the addition and cold forging deformation on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy were studied by thermodynamic calculation,electron backscatter diffraction,transmission electron microscopy,and X-ray *** stacking fault energy(SFE)of the alloy decreased after the addition,and the formation of stacking faults and intersections were promoted to improve the strength and *** tensile strength of the alloy with Mo increased from 1190 to 1702 MPa after 24%cold deformation,producing significant work *** strengthening mechanism is strain-induced martensitic transformation(SIMT)and deformation *** alloy,combined with Mo and after 24%deformation,had both high strength and ductility in comparison with the original cobalt-based alloy *** is attributed to the lower SFE which caused the increase in stacking fault *** the tensile process,theε-hcp phase was easily generated at the stacking fault to reduce the stress concentration and increase the *** SIMT by adjusting the density of stacking faults can improve the mechanical properties of cobalt-based ***ε-hcp phase,the interaction between deformation twins and dislocations,and the interaction between e-hcp phases during cold forging deformation caused local stress concentration,lowering ductility and toughness.

A continuous-wave Nd:YVO_(4)-KGW intracavity Raman laser with over 34% diode-to-Stokes optical efficiency

We demonstrate a continuous-wave(CW)Nd:YVO_(4)-potassium gadolinium tungstate(KGW)intracavity Raman laser with a diode-to-Stokes optical efficiency of 34.2%.By optimizing the cavity arrangement and reducing the cavity losses,8.47 W Stokes output at 1177 nm was obtained under an incident 878.6 nm diode pump power of 24.8 *** influence of cavity losses on the power and efficiency of the CW Raman laser,as well as the potential for further optimization,was investigated based on the numerical *** observation of thermally-induced output rollover was well explained by the calculation of the thermal lensing and cavity stability,indicating that the end-face curvature played an important role when the end-face of the crystal was highly reflective coated to make the cavity.A 10.9 W Stokes output under 40.9 W incident pump was also demonstrated with a cavity arrangement less sensitive to the end-face curvature,which is the highest output power of CW intracavity Raman lasers reported.
