Quality of care in patients with inflammatory bowel disease from a public health center in Brazil

BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs)are chronic diseases that demand continuous interaction between patients and healthcare *** of care(QoC)is a factor that contributes to a patient’s adherence to treatment and its *** To evaluate QoC in patients from a single IBD reference *** This cross-sectional study included 133 patients from a single Brazilian IBD public health *** was evaluated through the QoC Through the Eyes of Patients with IBD(QUOTE-IBD)questionnaire(based on patient perspectives),which measures eight dimensions of *** compared QoC among patients with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis and analyzed the clinical and psychological factors associated with QoC *** evaluations assessed disease characteristics,quality of life,anxiety,and depression *** sixty-nine patients with Crohn’s disease and 64 with ulcerative colitis were *** mean age was 37.26 years±13.05 years,and 63.91%of the patients were *** mean duration of the disease was 8.44 years±7.59 years,where most patients were in remission(70.31%of patients with ulcerative colitis and 62.32%with Crohn’s disease).The total QoC score of the sample was 8.61 years±1.31 points,indicating that the QoC provided by the center was *** to univariate logistic regression,patients with Crohn’s disease had higher satisfaction rates than those with ulcerative colitis[odds ratio(OR):2.746;95%confidence interval(CI):1.360-5.541;P=0.0048]and patients on infliximab(OR:2.175;95%CI:1.037-4.562;P=0.0398).CONCLUsION Patients from the IBD public center reported good doctor-patient relationships,but had problems related to the healthcare *** of healthcare centers is of paramount to improve QoC for the patients involved.

Damage Caused by Psyllids and Influence of Climatic Factors in Brazilian Accesses of Guava Trees Cultivated in Organic system

The psyllid (Triozoida sp.) is the primary pest of guava tree in the Central Northern region of s?o Paulo state, Brazil. The variation of climatic factors may influence directly or indirectly the behavior of agricultural pests. The present work had objectives to evaluate the damages caused by psyllid in accesses of guava trees in order to identify materials with potential resistance to pest and the possible correlations of the damage with the meteorological factors, in an orchard of guava conducted in an organic system. Eighty-five guava accesses were evaluated. Each one was analyzed at random 10 leaves containing the symptom of the psyllid attack, through visual range of notes. The averages of the notes were compared by scott-Knott test at 5% probability. The 25 accesses with the highest average damage of psyllid had the data submitted to correlation (Pearson), with the minimum and maximum temperature (°C), precipitation (mm) and relative humidity (%). Guava accesses used commercially were the most susceptible to the attack of psyllid, compared to the selections, with an emphasis to access “L4P14”, “L7P28” and “L8P32B”, which were the least attacked. The study of correlation between psyllid damages and meteorological factors, must be used the medium temperature, relative humidity and rainfall accumulated in the period of 14 days before the evaluations. There is a positive correlation between minimum temperasture, precipitation and relative humidity with the damage of psyllids in leaves of guava.

Ethyl and butyl acetate oxidation over manganese oxides

Cerium alleviates drought-induced stress in Phaseolus vulgaris

Extreme drought events are expected to be one of the main challenges for tropical agriculture and,consequently,for global food *** this reason,it is urgent to develop strategies to increase water use efficiency,as well as to increase crops’ ability to cope with *** rare earth elements(REEs) are known to alleviate damages in plants under abiotic stresses,we hypothesized that addition of Ce^3+to nutrient solution would promote the growth of common bean,especially under simulated drought *** test this hypothesis,we conducted an experiment evaluating the effect of six Ce^3+concentrations on the development and physiological traits of common bean grown in nutrient solution under normal condition and under induced drought stress,caused by the addition of polyethylene glycol6000 to the nutrient *** results show that Ce^3+alleviates water stress in common bean plants,increasing their survival rate and *** addition,Ce^3+application increases photosynthesis rate,chlorophyll content and water use efficiency under water ***,we observe no significant effect of Ce^3+on plants growing under normal ***,Ce3+seems to be a promising attenuator of drought stress for common bean.

Entropy model to assess sediment resuspension probability and trap efficiency of small dams

In the Brazilian drylands, there are tens of thousands of small dams. Despite their paramount importance to the rural population, they are rarely monitored. Water demand increases with time while, simultaneously, siltation reduces reservoir water capacity and availability. Reservoir siltation models are, therefore, mandatory to manage the numerous ungauged small dams in these *** objective of the current study is to improve sediment trap efficiency(TE) modeling by including resuspension as a key probabilistic process. The shannon entropy was used to estimate the sediment resuspension probability, which was merged with the Camp model and generated the RETsED entropy model. To validate the RETsED model, an experimental check dam(ECD, 300 m3), located in the Gilbu es desertification site, Brazil, was monitored hourly during one hydrological year(July 2018-July 2019). Measurements show that the annual volumetric decline of the check dam was 12%; and that the average trap efficiency equaled 86%. Only 9.5% of the hourly sediment concentration outflow exceeded the average plus one standard deviation, showing that the reservoir is well mixed; a fact which highlights the relevance of the resuspension process. Three empirical models failed to mimic the experimental results: Churchill(TE = 99%), Brune(TE = 75%), and Maryland(TE = 94%). According to the RETsED entropy model, the resuspension probability during the experiment was 10%and TE = 81%, a value only 6% below the measured one. The Camp model simulated TE = 89%, only 3%higher than the measured value, but confirmed the Camp model’s tendency to overestimate TE due to a disregard of resuspension. The deterministic model showed low sensitivity concerning the hydrodynamic effects, whereas the entropy formulation proved to be more consistent with physical behavior: the resuspension probability clearly increased and trap efficiency decreased with rising reservoir discharge.

The essential oils from Mentha viridis (L). L. and Mentha pulegium L. were studied to assess their inhibitory potential on phospholipase from snake venoms and to determine their cytogenotoxic action on human cells. These essential oils were able to inhibit the breakdown of phospholipids induced by venoms of snakes of the Bothrops genus. Both oils presented hemolytic activity, although the Mentha viridis (L). L. oil induced hemolysis only at the highest concentrations (14.6 and 29 μL·mL-1). The essential oil from M. viridis induced 3.9;8.6 and 16.2 times greater damage to human leukocyte DNA than that observed with the positive control (100 μg·μL-1 doxorubicin) at concentrations of 0.25;0.5 and 1.0 μL·mL-1, respectively. A similar effect was observed for the oil from M. pulegium (2.1, 2.5 and 15.8 times greater damage). The results extend the characterization of these essential oils and demonstrate their potential use in industries.

Antimicrobial Activity and Rates of Tannins in stryphnodendron adstringens *** Collected in the Brazilian Cerrado

Inner bark extracts of stryphnodendron adstringens, a leguminous tree species known as Barbatimão, are often incorporated to phytotherapic formulations due to their antimicrobial and healing activities. In this study, extracts from s. adstringens accessions collected in 12 distinct locations were investigated in order to determine the rates of tannins in inner barks and to validate s. adstringens antibacterial and antifungal effectiveness. Yields of tannins were quantified by colorimetric assay following methodology described in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia and the antimicrobial activity was determined by microdilution technique proposed by the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory standards using s. adstringens hydroalcoholic and aqueous extracts and semi-purified fractions. Investigated extracts did not present significant antibacterial activity though aqueous extracts exhibited antifungal effect against both Trichophyton rubrum mutant and clinical strains (MIC 156 μg/mL). A positive correlation between tannin concentration and antifungal activity was observed and the accessions collected in Delfinópolis (MG) were considered elite.

Combination of WRF Model and LsTM Network for solar Radiation Forecasting—Timor Leste Case study

A study of a combination of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and Long short Term Memory (LsTM) network for location in Dili Timor Leste is introduced in this paper. One calendar year’s results of solar radiation from January to December 2014 are used as input data to estimate future forecasting of solar radiation using the LsTM network for three months period. The WRF model version 3.9.1 is used to simulate one year’s solar radiation in horizontal resolution low scale for nesting domain 1span> × 1 km. It is done by applying 6-hourly interval 1º span style="font-family:"">× 1span>º NCEP FNL analysis data used as Global Forecast System (GFS). LSTM network is applied for forecasting in numerous learning problems for solar radiation forecasting. LSTM network uses two-layer LSTM architecture of 512 hidden neurons coupled with a dense output layer with linear as the model activation to predict with time steps are configured to 50 and the number of features is 1. The maximum epoch is set to 325 with batch size 300 and the validation split is 0.09. The results demonstrate that the combination of these two methods can successfully predict solar radiation where four error metrics of mean bias error (MBE), root mean square error (RMSE), normalized MBE (nMBE), and normalized RMSE (nRMSE) perform small error distribution and percentage in three months prediction where the error percentage is obtained below the 20% for nMBE and nRMSE.
