Hyperacute experimental model of rat lung transplantation using a coronary shunt cannula

BACKGROUND Lung transplantation is a well-established treatment of end-stage lung disease.A rodent model is an inexpensive way to collect biological data from a living model after lung transplantation.However,mastering the surgical technique takes time owing to the small organ size.AIM To conduct rat lung transplantation using a shunt cannula(SC)or modified cannula(MC)and assess their efficacy.METHODS Rat lung transplantation was performed in 11 animals in the SC group and 12 in the MC group.We devised a method of rat lung transplantation using a coronary SC for coronary artery bypass surgery as an anastomosis of pulmonary arteri-ovenous vessels and bronchioles.The same surgeon performed all surgical proce-dures in the donor and recipient rats without using a magnifying glass.The success rate of lung transplantation,operating time,and PaO2 values were com-pared after 2-h reperfusion after transplantation.RESULTS Ten and 12 lungs were successfully transplanted in the SC and MC groups,respectively.In the SC group,one animal had cardiac arrest within 1 h after reperfusion owing to bleeding during pulmonary vein anastomosis.The opera-ting time for the removal of the heart-lung block from the donor and preparation of the left lung graft was 26.8±2.3 and 25.7±1.3 min in the SC and MC groups,respectively(P=0.21).The time required for left lung transplantation in the recipients was 37.5±2.8 min and 35.9±1.4 min in the SC and MC groups,respectively(P=0.12).PaO2 values at 2 h after reperfusion were 456.2±25.5 and INTRODUCTION Lung transplantation is a well-established treatment of end-stage lung disease.Many immune and non-immune mech-anisms in lung transplantation are highly complex,and post-transplant complications such as infections and primary and chronic lung allograft dysfunction must be reduced to improve survival.Therefore,there is a need for immunological and pathophysiological analyses using animal lung transplantation models.The rat lung transplantation model was first reported in 1971[1],followed by the Mizuta

The pinning of quantized magnetic vortices in superconducting YBa_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-δ)(YBCO or Y123)thin films with Y_(2)BaCuO_(5)(Y211)nanoinclusions have been investigated over wide temperature range(4.2-77 K).The concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions has been systematically varied inside YBCO thin films prepared by laser ablation technique using surface modified target approach.Large pinning force density values(Fp∼0.5 TNm^(−3)at 4.2 K,9 T)have been observed for the YBCO film with moderate concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions(3.6 area%on ablation target).In addition,uniform enhancement in critical current density(J_(c))was observed in the angular dependent J_(c)measurement of YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films.Y211 nanoinclusions have been found to be very efficient in pinning the quantized vortices thereby enhancing the in‐field J_(c)values over a wide range of temperature.Increasing the concentration of Y211 secondary phase into Y123 film matrix results into agglomeration of Y211 phase and observed as increased Y211 nanoparticle size.These larger secondary phase nanoparticles are not as efficient pinning centers at lower temperatures as they are at higher temperatures due to substantial reduction of the coherence length at lower temperatures.Investigation of the temperature dependence of J_(c)for YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films has been conducted and possible vortex pinning mechanism in these nanocomposite films has been discussed.

The program described herein （LEADAT） serves to calculate sediment date and sedimentation rate using the ^210pb method for the studies of environmental processes and pollution history on a time scale of 100 - 150 a. The program written in MATLAB （ Version7.0） permits the user to select the principal models of ^210pb method, i. e. , the constant fluxes of sediment and lead-210 （ CF- SL） model, the constant flux of lead-210 （CFL） model, the constant initial concentration of lead-210 （CICL） model and the twolayer mixing （TLM） model. Although appropriate model selection is essentially based on understanding of the sedimentary processes, the pattern of the excess ^210pb profile is also helpful for model selection. The excess ^210pb profiles for two sediment cores collected from a brackish lake and an embayment respectively are used to demonstrate the application of the program. With a graphical user interface, the program can be easily executed. Not only ASCII but also graphical output can be generated by means of the program. Meanwhile, the code can be modified easily for extension.

The development of superconducting joining technology for reacted magnesium diboride(MgB_(2))conductors remains a critical challenge for the advancement of cryogen-free MgB_(2)-based magnets for magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Herein,the fabrication of superconducting joints using reacted carbon-doped multifilament MgB_(2)wires for MRI magnets is reported.To achieve successful superconducting joints,the powder-in-mold method was employed,which involved tuning the filament protection mechanism,the powder compaction pressure,and the heat treatment condition.The fabricated joints demonstrated clear superconducting-to-normal transitions in self-field,with effective magnetic field screening up to 0.5 T at 20 K.To evaluate the interface between one of the MgB_(2)filaments and the MgB_(2)bulk within the joint,serial sectioning was conducted for the first time in this type of superconducting joint.The serial sectioning revealed space formation at the interface,potentially caused by the volume shrinkage associated with the MgB_(2)formation or the combined effect of the volume shrinkage and the different thermal expansion coefficients of the MgB_(2)bulk,the filament,the mold,and the sealing material.These findings are expected to be pivotal in developing MgB_(2)superconducting joining technology for MRI magnet applications through interface engineering.

It is well known that the system (1 + 1) can be unequal to 2, because this system has both observation error and system error. Furthermore, we must provide our mustered service within our cool head and warm heart, where two states of nature are existing upon us. Any system is regarded as the two-dimensional variable error model. On the other hand, we consider that the fuzziness is existing in this system. Though we can usually obtain the fuzzy number from the possibility theory, it is not fuzzy but possibility, because the possibility function is as same as the likelihood function, and we can obtain the possibility measure by the maximal likelihood method (i.e. max product method proposed by Dr. Hideo Tanaka). Therefore, Fuzzy is regarded as the only one case according to Vague, which has both some state of nature in this world and another state of nature in the other world. Here, we can consider that Type 1 Vague Event in other world can be obtained by mapping and translating from Type 1 fuzzy Event in this world. We named this estimation as Type 1 Bayes-Fuzzy Estimation. When the Vague Events were abnormal (ex. under War), we need to consider that another world could exist around other world. In this case, we call it Type 2 Bayes-Fuzzy Estimation. Where Hori et al. constructed the stochastic different equation upon Type 1 Vague Events, along with the general following probabilistic introduction method from the single regression model, multi-regression model, AR model, Markov (decision) process, to the stochastic different equation. Furthermore, we showed that the system theory approach is Possibility Markov Process, and that the making decision approach is Sequential Bayes Estimation, too. After all, Type 1 Bays-Fuzzy estimation is the special case in Bayes estimation, because the pareto solutions can exist in two stochastic different equations upon Type 2 Vague Events, after we ignore one equation each other (note that this is Type 1 case), we can obtain both its system solution and its decision solution. 根据中日越三方合作对越南红河流域周边/沿岸植被、生境、土壤和地貌特征等进行的野外踏勘和调查结果,结合前人研究成果,以红河汇水盆地沉积物中植物碎屑及相关微体的潜在源区为出发点,从地形地貌学的角度,阐述了越南红河流域周边植被的组合分布规律。结果表明:(Ⅰ)上游番西邦山区河谷体系:植被垂直分分带明显,海拔由低到高依次分布有热带雨林、季雨林、亚热带常绿阔叶林、山地苔藓林、温带阔叶林、针阔叶混交林、高山灌丛和草地8类植被;(Ⅱ)河床河漫滩堤岸的河流体系:水生植物及沼泽植物—草地、低矮灌丛—热带树种;(Ⅲ)三角洲平原—沿海滩涂体系:沼泽森林—红树林。另外,原始植被经自然火灾或人类种植火烧后形成独特的次生植被类型主要为竹林、松林、草地等。

Validation of user-friendly models predicting extracapsular extension in prostate cancer patients

Objective:There are many models to predict extracapsular extension(ECE)in patients with prostate cancer.We aimed to externally validate several models in a Japanese cohort.Methods:We included patients treated with robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer.The risk of ECE was calculated for each patient in several models(prostate side-specific and non-side-specific).Model performance was assessed by calculating the receiver operating curve and the area under the curve(AUC),calibration plots,and decision curve analyses.Results:We identified ECE in 117(32.9%)of the 356 prostate lobes included.Patients with ECE had a statistically significant higher prostate-specific antigen level,percentage of positive digital rectal examination,percentage of hypoechoic nodes,percentage of magnetic resonance imaging nodes or ECE suggestion,percentage of biopsy positive cores,International Society of Urological Pathology grade group,and percentage of core involvement.Among the sidespecific models,the Soeterik,Patel,Sayyid,Martini,and Steuber models presented AUC of 0.81,0.78,0.77,0.75,and 0.73,respectively.Among the non-side-specific models,the memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center web calculator,the Roach formula,the Partin tables of 2016,2013,and 2007 presented AUC of 0.74,0.72,0.64,0.61,and 0.60,respectively.However,the 95%confidence interval for most of these models overlapped.The side-specific models presented adequate calibration.In the decision curve analyses,most models showed net benefit,but it overlapped among them.Conclusion:Models predicting ECE were externally validated in Japanese men.The side-specific models predicted better than the non-side-specific models.The Soeterik and Patel models were the most accurate performing models.

根据对越南红河三角洲的2个钻孔的孢粉分析结果,结合沉积特征和高精度的 AMS14 C测年数据,恢复了近五千年来百年-千年尺度的气候变化,发现了3个分别开始于4 530 cal. aBP, 2 100 cal. aBP和620 cal. aBP的明显降温事件,其中4 530 cal. aBP和620 cal. aBP降温事件可与全球全新世气候变冷事件中的“新冰期(Neogla cial)”和“小冰期(Little Ice Age)”相对应,可能与由北大西洋地区几个短期变冷事件的全球气候响应机制有关。3 340 cal. aBP以来,人类干扰性植物成分的增加,表明人类活动对自然植被的影响改造作用增强,因此,本研究中气候的降温事件不排除人类影响的因素,仍需要进一步深入研究。

Growth promotion of interspecific hybrid embryos between Cucumis anguria and Melon(C. melo) by fruit heating

Wild species of the genus Cucumis, such as C. anguria, are resistant to various melon(C. melo) diseases such as Fusarium wilt race 1.2 and are anticipated as genetic resources of melon. However, in the interspecific crosses between C. anguria and melon, the abortion of the embryos was observed in the early growth stage and could not be regenerated even when cultured. Therefore, for embryo rescue, it is necessary to promote embryo growth during abortion occurrence. This study investigated the effects of fruit heating on embryo growth in interspecific hybrids of C. anguria and melon. In the heating device, the minimum night temperature around the fruit was maintained above 21.5 °C. The ovule grain area of C. anguria × MR-1 with fruit heating was significantly enlarged compared to that without fruit-heating. It was also significantly enlarged compared with the ovule grain area of C. anguria self-pollination. Although, in C. anguria × MR-1 without fruit-heating, no embryo was observed until 10 days after pollination(DAP), and pre-embryos were observed at 13 DAP. Conversely, in C. anguria × MR-1 with fruit-heating, pre-embryos were even observed at 10 DAP. These results suggest that the possibility of embryo or ovule culture regeneration has increased due to embryo growth promotion.
