Hydrocarbon indication in Rio Bonito Formation sandstone:Implication for cO_(2)storage in São Paulo,Brazil

São Paulo State has witnessed cO_(2)storage-based investigations considering the availability of suitable geologic structures and proximity to primary cO_(2)source sinks related to bioenergy and carbon capture and storage(BEccS)*** current study presents the hydrocarbon viability evaluations and cO_(2)storage prospects,focusing on the sandstone units of the Rio Bonito *** objective is to apply petrophysical evaluations with geochemical inputs in predicting future hydrocarbon(gas)production to boost cO_(2)storage within the study *** study used data from eleven wells with associated wireline logs(gamma ray,resistivity,density,neutron,and sonic)to predict potential hydrocarbon accumulation and fluid mobility in the investigated *** samples(shale and carbonate)obtained from depths>200 m within the study location have shown bitumen *** geochemistry data of the Rio Bonito Formation shale beds suggest they are potential hydrocarbon source rocks and could have contributed to the gas accumulations within the sandstone *** drilled well data,e.g.,cB-1-SP and TI-1-SP,show hydrocarbon(gas)presence based on the typical resistivity and the combined neutron-density responses at depths up to 3400 m,indicating the possibility of other hydrocarbon members apart from the heavy oil(bitumen)observed from the near-surface rocks *** the three-dimensional(3-D)model,the free fluid indicator(FFI)is more significant towards the southwest and southeast of the area with deeper depths of occurrence,indicating portions with reasonable hydrocarbon recovery rates and good prospects for cO_(2)injection,circulation and permanent ***,future studies based on contemporary datasets are required to establish the hydrocarbon viability further,foster gas production events,and enhance cO_(2)storage possibilities within the region.

The clothing industry is considered one of the most polluting industries on the planet due to the high consumption of water,energy,chemicals/dyes,and high generation of solid waste and *** with environmental concerns,the textile ennoblement sector is the most critical of the textile production chain,especially the traditional dyeing *** an alternative to current problems,dyeing with supercritical cO_(2)(sccO_(2))has been presented as a clean and efficient process for a sustainable textile *** fluid dyeing(SFD)has shown a growing interest due to its significant impact on environmental preservation and social,economic,and financial *** main SFD benefits include economy and reuse of non-adsorbed dyes;reduction of process time and energy expenditure;capture of atmospheric cO_(2)(greenhouse gas);use and recycling of cO_(2)in SFD;generation of carbon credits;water-free process;effluent-free process;reduction of cO_(2)emission and auxiliary *** being still a non-scalable and evolving technology,SFD is the future of *** review presented a comprehensive overview of the environmental impacts caused by traditional processes and confronted the advantages of *** SFD technique was introduced,along with its latest advances and future *** and environmental gains were also discussed.

Stability of the Stratification of Water Bodies in the North Passage of the Yangtze River Estuary Based on the EFDc Model

To study the stratified stability of a water column in the North Passage of the Yangtze River Estuary,a numerical model of the hydrodynamics of this estuary is established using the EFDc *** the basis of EFDc results,this paper derives and pro-vides the discriminative index of water body stability caused by salinity and analyzes the along-range variation in water body strati-fication stability in the North Passage of the Yangtze River Estuary and the periodic variation at a key location(bend area)based on the simulation results of the numerical *** work shows that the water body in the bend area varies between mixed and strati-fied types,and the vertical average flow velocity has a good negative correlation with the differential velocity between the surface and bottom layers of the water *** model simulation results validate the formulae for the stratified stability discriminant during spring tides.

A novel approach to the dynamic response analysis of Euler-Bernoulli beams resting on a Winkler soil model and subjected to impact loads

This work presents a novel approach to the dynamic response analysis of a Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on a Winkler soil model and subjected to an impact *** approach considers that damping has much less importance in controlling the maximum response to impulsive loadings because the maximum response is reached in a very short time,before the damping forces can dissipate a significant portion of the energy input into the *** development of two sine series solutions,relating to different types of impulsive loadings,one involving a single concentrated force and the other a distributed line load,are *** study revealed that when a simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beam,resting on a Winkler soil model,is subject to an impact load,the resulting vertical displacements,bending moments and shear forces produced along the span of the beam are considerably *** particular,the quantification of this effect is best observed,relative to the corresponding static solution,via an amplification *** computed impact amplification factors,for the sub-grade moduli used in this study,were in magnitude greater than 2,thus confirming the multiple-degree-of-freedom nature of the problem.

Hole cleaning evaluation and installation spacing optimization of cuttings bed remover in extended-reach drilling

In extended-reach or long-horizontal drilling,cuttings usually deposit at the bottom of the *** cuttings accumulate to a certain thickness,complex problems such as excessive torque and drag,tubing buckling,and pipe stuck probably occur,which results in a lot of non-productive time and remedial *** bed remover can efficiently destroy deposited cuttings in time through hydraulic and mechanical stirring *** paper aims to build a method for hole cleaning evaluation and installation spacing optimization of cuttings bed remover to improve the wellbore cleaning ***,a computational Fluid Dynamics approach with Eulerian—Eulerian multiphase model was utilized to investigate the mechanism of cuttings transportation,and a new type of cuttings bed remover was ***,an evaluation method of hole cleaning effect of remover was *** that,the effects of several drilling parameters on hole cleaning including flow rate of drilling fluid,rotational speed of drillpipe,rate of penetration,wellbore size,rheological property of drilling fluid,and remover eccentricity on the performance of cuttings bed remover were *** results demonstrate that the new type of remover with streamline blade performs better than conventional *** efficiency of hole cleaning is greatly improved by increasing the rotational speed of drillpipe,flow rate of drilling fluid,remover eccentricity,and 6 rpm Fann dial reading for drilling *** higher rate of penetration and large wellbore size result in worse hole *** findings can serve as an important guide for the structure optimization design of cuttings bed remover and installation spacing of removers.

Simulated rainfall in Brazil:An alternative for assesment of soil surface processes and an opportunity for technological development

Rainfall simulators(RS)have been used,above all,to evaluate hydrological processes related to soil water infiltration,surface runoff and soil *** allow repeatability of rain application with different precipitation intensities in field and/or laboratory conditions and should produce events with physical characteristics similar to natural *** this manuscript,we carried out a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of studies with simulated rainfall in Brazil to assess the temporal evolution of publications,the main topics addressed and the degree of technological development of the *** searched for the terms“rainfall simulator”OR“simulated rainfall”AND“Brazil”in the Scopus,Web of Science,SciELO and Google Scholar *** found 143 articles published in the last 37 years(1985-2022).Our findings indicate that the main research areas covered in papers are soil erosion(57.34%),soil water infiltration(24.47%),nutrient losses(9.8%)and RS development and calibration/assessment(8.39%).In recent years,the number of published papers in international high-impact factor journals has *** of the papers(49.65%)refer to studies carried out by institutions located in the south and southeast regions of ***,there is a large gap of studies on simulated rainfall in other regions of Brazil,where important biomes such as the cerrado,Amazon,caatinga,and their transitions are *** study informs research priorities on soil erosion under simulated rainfall and provides a bibliographic database that can assist in more detailed future analyses.

ENSO impacts on litter stocks and water holding capacity in secondary forests in eastern Amazonia

Among the impacts of climate change,there is the intensification of phenomena such as the El Niño South-ern Oscillation(ENSO)responsible for El Niño and La Niñ***,understanding their effects on the functional pro-cesses of forests is ***,this study evaluated the effects of ENSO on litter stock and water holding capac-ity(WHc)in a successional forest in eastern *** occurred in periods with the most rainfall in El Niño(2019)and least in La Niña(2021)*** permanent plots were used to sample *** effects were evident for WHc,higher during El Niñ***,this influence was not clear for litter,as only in the rainy season effects were *** was a positive correlation of WHc with precipitation and humidity,while litter stocks were negatively correlated with temperature and wind *** the subject of this study requires long-term assessments,preliminary results suggests that,depending on the intensity of ENSO,forest functional processes can be strongly impacted and *** conclusion reinforces warnings by the scientific community about the impacts of climate change on the maintenance of litter stocks,decomposition and,consequently,the biogeochemical cycle and essential ecosystem services for the maintenance of Amazonia *** need to develop long-term research to understand the effects of climatic change on litter stocks and water holding capacity is highlighted,especially in Amazonia.
