Effect of five diatomaceous earth formulations against Tribofium castaneum （Coleoptera： Tenebrionidae）, Oryzaephflus surinamensis （Coleoptera： Silvanidae） and Rhyzopertha dominica （Coleoptera： Bostrychidae）

Laboratory bioassays were conducted to determine the effect of food source on the survival of Tribolium castaneum Herbst, Oryzaephilus surinamensis L. and Rhyzopertha dominica F., after exposure to five diatomaceous earth （DE） formulations： Protect-It, Insecto, Perma-GuardTM, Dryacide and SilicoSec. Adults of these species were exposed to DEs at the rate of 0.5 mg/cm^2 for 1 day on filter paper inside plastic Petri dishes. After exposure, the initial mortality was counted and live individuals of the three species were held for a week in glass vials containing 50 mg wheat flour, rice and whole wheat, respectively. In the second experiment, after 1 day exposure to DEs, beetles were transferred to Petri dishes without food and held for a week to determine if the presence of food source would decrease the mortality of beetles. Experiments were carried out at 27℃ and 55% RH in the dark. The initial mortality in both of the experiments reached 100% for the three species exposed to Protect-It and in the case ofR. dominica and O. surinamensis exposed to Dryacide. In contrast, low level of mortality （〈 10%） was observed for T. castaneum exposed to Perma-GuardTM and Insecto. The mortality after the post-treatment period on food was decreased for the three species exposed to Perma-GuardTM and in the case of T. castaneum and R. dominica exposed to Insecto and SilicoSec. Adults of O. surinamensis were the most susceptible followed by R. dominica and 100% adult mortality was obtained, whereas T. castaneum were the least susceptible beetles to DEs. Protect-It and Dryacide were the most efficient DE formulations and can be used effectively in a stored grain integrated pest management program.

Effect of nanotechnology on heavy metal removal from aqueous solution

The effect of nanotechnology on cadmium and zinc removal from aqueous solution was investigated. In order to characterize micro and nano phragmites australis adsorbent, we analyzed the data via FTIR, SEM, PSA, and EDX. The effect of various parameters such as p H, contact time, amount of adsorbent and initial concentration, was investigated. The optimum p H for the removal of cadmium for micro and nano phragmites australis adsorbent was 7, and for the removal of zinc by the micro adsorbent was 7 and by nano adsorbent was 6. The equilibrium time of zinc was 90 min and for the adsorption of cadmium by micro and nano adsorbent were 90 and 30 min, respectively. The optimum dose of micro adsorbent for the removal of cadmium was 0.7 g, and the other dose for the removal of zinc and cadmium was 0.5 g. The evaluation of adsorbent's distribution coefficient showed that the highest rates of distribution coefficient with initial concentration of 5, 10, 30, and 50 mg/L were 394.83, 587.62, 759.39 and 1101.52 L/kg, respectively, which were observed in nano adsorbent. Desorption experiments for the nano adsorbent in three cycles were done. Among kinetics models, our experimental data were more consistent with Hoo kinetic model and for isotherm models, Freundlich isotherm was more consistent. The results show that nanotechnology could increase the performance of adsorbents and enhance the efficiency of the adsorption of cadmium and zinc ions.

Inhibitability of soil loss and sediment concentration during consecutive rainfalls from experimental plots treated by endemic microorganisms

Consecutive rainfalls, due to changes in antecedent moisture, alter soil erosion processes, necessitating the implementation of suitable soil loss control methods. Biological soil microorganism approaches have been applied to control soil loss. However, information on the involvement of microorganisms in the soil loss and rill erosion processes has yet to be supplied. In this study, the individual and combined inoculation of cyanobacteria and bacteria was investigated during five consecutive rainfalls with an interval of three days, an intensity of 50 mm/h, and a duration of 30 min. Also, additional runoff simulation of about 2.18 ± 0.32 L/min was done in mid-sized experimental plots(i.e., 6 m × 1 m × 0.5 m) induced by rill erosion. These experiments were done at the Rainfall and Soil Erosion Simulation Laboratory of the Faculty of Natural Resources, Tarbiat Modares University, Iran. Soil loss and sediment concentration were measured during five consecutive rainfalls in the study treatments and compared with the control treatment. Results showed that the highest soil loss of 30,810.70 g occurred at the control treatment in the first rainfall. In contrast, individual and combined inoculation treatments of cyanobacteria and bacteria with the secretion of polysaccharides and resulting stability of aggregates decreased soil loss significantly(p < 0.01) by 99.65%, 99.91%, and 100.00%, respectively, compared to the control *** the combined treatment of cyanobacteria and bacteria, soil loss further decreased by 68.38%, 70.33%,and 7.27% for 2 through 4, respectively, events and increased by 19.96% in the fifth event, and sediment concentration also decreased by 68.88% and 59.86% for the second and third events, respectively and increased by 4.66% and 83.30% for the fourth and fifth events, respectively. Sorting Data Elements by SOCD Using Centralized Diamond Architecture

Several parallel sorting techniques on different architectures have been studied for many years. Due to the need for faster systems in today＇s world, parallelism can be used to accelerate applications. Nowadays, parallel operations are used to solve computer problems such as sort and search, which result in a reasonable speed. Sorting is one of the most important operations in computing world. The authors always try to find the best in different areas which the premier is speedup. In this paper, the authors issued a sort with O（logn） time complexity on PRAM EREW （Parallel Random Access Machine Exclusive Read Exclusive Write）. The algorithm is designed in a manner that keeps the tradeoff between the number of processor elements in the architecture and execution time. The simulation of the algorithm proves the theoretical analysis of the algorithm. The results of this research can be utilized in developing faster embedded systems. Sorting on Centralized Diamond （SOCD） algorithm is issued on the novel Centralized Diamond architecture which takes the advantages of Single Instruction Multiple Data （SIMD） architecture. This architecture and the sort on it are intuitive and optimal.

The Effect of Oral <i>Melissa officinalis</i>on Serum Oxidative Stress and Second Degree Burn Wounds Healing

For this aim, this study conducted in order to assess the effect of lemon balm as an antioxidant on second degree wound healing and oxidative stress serum of burning patients. To meet the aim, 60 patients with 15 to 50 burn percent with the age range of 18 to 50 were invited after considering to inclusion criteria by the researchers. First they have been put by non-probable method and then random method in two groups of experiment (30 people) and control (30 people). After that, experiment group in addition to ordinary treatment has been used Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) plant two times a day for two weeks (1.5 g in 100 cc). Oxidative stress parameters included serum total antioxidant and the rate of malondialdehyde (MDA) that is one of total production of lipid peroxidation have been measured in patients’ blood sample in first and last parts of the study. The wound position has been studied by using standard wound BATES-JENSEN assessment tool in first, seventh and fifteenth days of study. In order to analyze data, independent sample t-test, paired sample t-test and repeated measurement variance have been used. These results indicated that the state of wound healing in experimental group was better than that in control group. Results indicated that mean of serum total antioxidant had been increased in both groups. The index of lipid peroxidation at the end of period has been increased in experiment group than control group, whether this index is significantly decreased at the end of 15 days in experimental group. According to the results of this study, the effect of Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) plant was effective in increasing lipid peroxideative in better states of second degree burn wound healing.
