Arasbaran forests are located in East Azerbaijan （northwest Iran）. Increasing of socio-economic problems in this area causes destruction of biodiversity and structure of these forests. Using multipurpose trees such as cornelian cherry （Cornus mas L） to encourage villagers to produce forest by-products is a basic approach for preserving these forests. This species grows naturally in Arasbaran forests and the fruit is annually exploited using traditional harvest methods. This study aims to assess the ecological requirements of cornelian cherry and the important factors affecting its distribution. For this purpose, 40 circular sampling plots （300 m2） on various slope aspects were demarcated for sampling the occurrence of cornelian cherry in forest stands. DBH and crown cover percentage on north aspects were significantly greater than on other aspects and 4.5% of all trees were cornelian cherry in mature forest stands. North aspects had more seed-origin trees （standards） of cornelian cherry than coppiced trees, while west facing aspects had more coppiced than standard trees. This species had the highest regeneration rate in the sapling stage of 0–2.5 cm DBH. Thus, I recommend cultivation and development of cornelian cherry as a multi-purpose tree in the Arasbaran region on degraded forest lands on north and west aspects.

Adequate regulation of mineral nutrients might be effective to ameliorate the deleterious effects of salts and help to sustain crop productivity, particularly in glycophytes, under salt stress. In this study, laboratory and greenhouse experiments were carried out at Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Centre in East Azerbaijan, Iran, to investigate the interactive effects of silicon and potassium nitrate in alleviating NaCl induced injuries in wheat（Triticum aestivum L.）. In the laboratory experiment, three winter wheat cultivars Pishgam, Afagh and Alvand were grown on sterile filter paper moistened with 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 mmol L-1 NaCl solution. Results revealed that wheat cultivars were significantly different in their growth response to different concentrations of NaCl and Pishgam was found to be the most tolerant to NaCl stress, and used in the second part of study. In the greenhouse experiment, Pishgam was grown in a hydroponic system subjected to different NaCl levels（20, 60 and 100 mmol L-1） and treated by silicon（0, 2 and 4 mmol L-1, final concentration in nutrient solution using K2SiO3） and potassium nitrate（0, 0.5, 1, and 2 mmol L-1, foliar application）. The experimental design was factorial based on a completely randomized design with three replications. It was found that NaCl stress significantly increased proline accumulation and sodium content in the plant tissues while decreased potassium uptake and accumulation by plants. Moreover, plant weight, 100-seed weight, relative water content, chlorophyll content, and photosynthesis were also significantly affected by varying levels of NaCl. However, exogenous application of silicon and potassium nitrate reduced sodium uptake, increased potassium and consequently improved plant weight, 100-seed weight, seed yield, ear length, and photosynthesis rate. Liquefaction-induced lateral displacement is responsible for considerable damage to engineered structures during major ***,an accurate estimation of lateral displacement in liquefaction-prone regions is an essential task for geotechnical experts for sustainable *** paper presents a novel probabilistic framework for evaluating liquefaction-induced lateral displacement using the Bayesian belief network(BBN)approach based on an interpretive structural modeling *** BBN models are trained and tested using a wide-range casehistory records *** two BBN models are proposed to predict lateral displacements for free-face and sloping ground *** predictive performance results of the proposed BBN models are compared with those of frequently used multiple linear regression and genetic programming *** results reveal that the BBN models are able to learn complex relationships between lateral displacement and its influencing factors as cause-effect relationships,with reasonable *** study also presents a sensitivity analysis to evaluate the impacts of input factors on the lateral displacement.

Investigating the Relevance of Arabic Text Classification Datasets Based on Supervised Learning

Training and testing different models in the field of text classification mainly depend on the pre-classified text document datasets. Recently, seven datasets have emerged for Arabic text classification, including Single-Label Arabic News Articles Dataset(SANAD), Khaleej, Arabiya, Akhbarona, KALIMAT, Waten2004, and Khaleej2004. This study investigates which of these datasets can provide significant training and fair evaluation for text classification(TC). In this investigation, well-known and accurate learning models are used, including naive Bayes(NB), random forest(RF), K-nearest neighbor(KNN), support vector machines(SVM), and logistic regression(LR) models. We present relevance and time measures of training the models with these datasets to enable Arabic language researchers to select the appropriate dataset to use based on a solid basis of comparison. The performances of the five learning models across the seven datasets are measured and compared with the performances of the same models trained on a well-known English language dataset. The analysis of the relevance and time scores shows that training the SVM model on Khaleej and Arabiya obtained the most significant results in the shortest amount of time,with the accuracy of 82%.

Drought is a natural phenomenon posing severe implications for soil,groundwater and agricultural *** has been recognized as one of the most pervasive global change drivers to affect the *** being a weakly renewable resource takes a long time to form,but it takes no time to ***,the response of soil to drought conditions as soil loss is not manifested in the existing ***,this study makes a concerted effort to analyze the relationship between drought conditions and soil erosion in the middle sub-basin of the Godavari River in *** remote sensing data was utilized for driving drought indices during ***,we constricted Temperature condition index(TCI)and Vegetation Condition Index(VCI)from Land Surface Temperature(LST)and Enhanced Vegetation Index(EVI)derived from MODIS *** and VCI were then integrated to determine the Vegetation Health Index(VHI).Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE)was utilized for estimating soil *** relationship between drought condition and vegetation was ascertained using the Pearson *** of the northern and southern watersheds experienced severe drought condition in the sub-basin *** mean frequency of the drought occurrence was 7.95 *** average soil erosion in the sub-basin was estimated to be 9.88 t ha^(-1)year^(-1).A positive relationship was observed between drought indices and soil erosion values(r value being 0.35).However,wide variations were observed in the distribution of spatial *** various factors,the slope length and steepness were found to be the main drivers of soil erosion in the ***,the study calls for policy measures to lessen the impact of drought and soil erosion.
