In this paper, high density of dislocations, grain boundaries and nanometer-scale α precipitates were intro- duced to a metastable Ti-36Nb-5Zr alloy (wt%) through a thermo-mechanical approach including severe cold rolling and short-time annealing treatment. The martensitic trans- formation was retarded, and the β phase with low content of β stabilizers was retained at room temperature after the thermo-mechanical treatment. As a result, both low mod- ulus (57 GPa) and high strength (950 MPa) are obtained. The results indicate that it is a feasible strategy to control martensitic transformation start temperature through microstructure optimization instead of composition design, with the aim of fabricating low modulus β-type Ti alloy.

The reaction characteristics of phenolic hydroxyl group were studied under the conditions of direct coal liquefaction. 2-naphthol was used as a coal model compound in this study. Under the conditions of with and without catalysts, a series of experiments were conducted at different temperatures, pressures and reaction time. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography were used to identify and quantify the reactants and products respectively. The conversion of 2-naphthol rises with the increase of reaction temperature, initial pressure and catalyst amount. The results indicated that tem- perature had a significant effect on 2-naphthol conversion, which promoted the dehydroxylation reaction. However, initial pressure had an important influence on the hydrogenation of 2-naphthol and naphthalene. The iron catalyst plays a significant role of cracking instead of hydrogenation. It is concluded that the harsh reaction conditions of high temperature, high pressure, and more catalyst are conducive to promoting dehydroxylation of 2-naphthol. The reaction mechanism was put forward based the experimental results, in which 2-tetralone was an intermediate.

Sucrose-modified nanoscale zero-valent iron(SM-NZVI) was prepared with liquid phase reducing method, and characterized by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) for the shape and structure The size of SM-NZVI particles was about 100--150 nm and they displayed better dispersity. The degradation of ni- trobenzene(NB) in water by SM-NZVI was carried out in batch experiments. The results indicate that the efficiency of NB reduction via SM-NZVI increased by 44.24% compared with that via NZV, I, and coexistent Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3- and other ions showed little effect on NB reduction but negative influence on aniline(AN) production. Furthermore, the kinetic researches indicate that NB reduction with SM-NZVI could be described by pseudo first-order kinetic model at different initial pH values and iron dosage. The oxidation products of iron were mainly Fe304 and Fe203 with irregular shape.

Sustainable feeding of the growing population in China without ecological destabilization is a grand challenge. In this populous country where agriculture is dominated by smallholder farming, developing innovative technology and translating scientific knowledge into action for smallholder farmers is a crucial step in addressing this challenge. Here, we present a novel approach for technology innovation and dissemination to achieve sustainable intensification in the fields of smallholder farmers. The Science and Technology Backyard(STB) is a hub in a rural area that links knowledge with practices to promote technology innovation and exchange. In this study, the framework and functions of STB are introduced, and the key implications for sustainable intensification across millions of smallholder farmers are explicitly stated:(i) develop innovative technology based on stated demands of farmers;(ii) disseminate technology by innovative social service models though combined top-down approaches with bottom-up measures to enable smallholders in rural areas. This paper provides a perspective on transformation of small-scale agriculture toward sustainable intensification in China and useful knowledge applicable to other developing countries.

Yellow light-emitting diodes(LEDs) as soft light have attracted abundant attention in lithography room, museum and art gallery. However, the development of efficient yellow LEDs lags behind green and blue LEDs, and the available perovskites yellow LEDs suffer from the instability. Herein, a pressure-assisted cooling method is proposed to grow lead-free CsCu2I3single crystals, which possess uniform surface morphology and enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY) stability, with only 10% PLQY losses after being stored in air after 5000 ***, the single crystals used for yellow LEDs without encapsulation exhibit a decent Correlated Color Temperature(CCT) of 4290 K, a Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage(CIE) coordinate of(0.38, 0.41), and an excellent 570-h operating stability under heating temperature of 100°C. Finally, the yellow LEDs facilitate the application in wireless visible light communication(VLC), which show a-3 dB bandwidth of 21.5 MHz and a high achievable data rate of 219.2 Mbps by using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) modulation with adaptive bit loading. The present work not only promotes the development of lead-free single crystals, but also inspires the potential of CsCu2I3in the field of yellow illumination and wireless VLC.

Low-dimensional luminescent lead-free metal halides have received substantial attention due to their unique optoelectronic *** them,zero-dimensional(0D)manganese(II)-based metal halides with negligible self-absorption have emerged as potential candidates in X-ray ***,we for the first time report a novel lead-free(TBA)_(2)MnBr_(4) single crystal synthesized via a facile solvent evaporation *** this crystal,[MnBr_(4)]^(2-)units are isolated by large TBA^(+)organic cations,resulting in a unique 0D *** prepared manganese-based crystals exhibit a bright-green emission centered at 512 nm with a high photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQY)of 93.76%at room temperature,originating from the ^(4)T_(1)–^(6)A_(1) transition of Mn^(2+).Apart from their outstanding optical performance,the crystals also show excellent stability and can maintain 94.4%of the initial PLQY even after being stored in air for 90 ***(TBA)_(2)MnBr4 films prepared as X-ray imaging scintillators exhibit a low detection limit of 63.3 nGyair/s,a high light yield of 68000 ph/MeV,and a high spatial resolution of 15.4 lp/***,this work not only enriches the family of lead-free metal halides but also expands the application of manganese(II)-based halides in flexible X-ray scintillators.
