Preparation process of bio-oil and bio-asphalt,their performance,and the application of bio-asphalt:A comprehensive review

The objective of this paper is to establish the state of knowledge on fast pyrolysis of bio-oil and bio-asphalt binder and to facilitate efforts in improving the overall perform ance of bioasphalt and maximizing its road *** the basis of reviewing the relevant literature recently,the fast pyrolysis(FasP) preparation process of bio-oil and its main properties,the preparation process of bio-asphalt and its performance and the application of bio-asphalt have been *** to the variations in raw materials,the adopted methods of FasP to prepare bio-oil could be different,and the properties of bio-oil from different sources are also *** present,the plant-based bio-oil(mainly derived from wood waste and sawdust) has been widely used to prepare the *** on the low-temperature flexibility,high-temperature rheology,workability and other performance of biological asphalt showed that the workability and high-temperature performance of most asphalt are improved after adding ***,the low-temperature performance is found to relatively ***,with regards to its application as a rejuvenator,bio-oil can considerably rejuvenate the aged asphalt’s mixture *** far,most of research on bio-asphalt is still focused on the performance of bio-asphalt binder in the laboratory;its application in practical road engineering is still to be *** review also provides an outlook for the future,for example,establishing an integrated preparation process from bio-oil to bio-asphalt,and evaluating the properties of bioasphalt by new standards.

Serum folate status among blood donors in south-central China

Folate deficiency has been confirmed to be related to various ***,there are few reports on the folate status of Chinese *** study aims to evaluate the serum folate status of blood donors in south-central *** this study,248 blood donors were *** information on subjects was collected by a brief questionnaire concerning alcohol consumption habits,smoking habits,fruit and vegetable consumption and physical *** serum folate concentration was measured by electrochemiluminescence *** geometric mean serum folate concentration was 13.4 nmoll-1(95%CI,12.7-14.1).The prevalence of serum folate concentrations below 6.8 nmoll-1 was 5.2%(95%CI,2.5-8.0).There were significant differences in serum folate concentrations with respect to sex(p-values<0.05),age(p-values<0.05),fruit and vegetable consumption(p-values<0.05),and alcohol consumption habits(p-values<0.05).The concentration of serum folate increased with age(p-values<0.05)and fruit and vegetable consumption(p-values<0.05).Individuals with an age of 30 years or younger were nearly 3.5 times as likely as those aged over 30 years to have an insufficient level of serum folate(OR=3.48;95%CI:1.01-11.99).An age of 30 years or younger was a risk factor for folate *** blood donors had sufficient serum folate concentrations in south-central *** surveys of folate status should be implemented in China.

Proximal configu ration of dissimilar metal atoms in amorphous high-entropy-alloys(HEAs) always re sult in interatomic d-band ligand effect,dense defect distribution,coordinatively unsaturated sites,high potential energy,and loose atom ***,nanostructured amorphous Fe_(29)Co_(27)Ni_(23)Si_(9)B_(12) HEA ribbon is fabricated via a melt spinning method combined with electrochemical corrosion etching process,which is applied as the potential oxygen evolution reaction *** is found that there are micro/nano pits on the surface of etched amorphous Fe_(29)Co_(27)Ni_(23)Si_(9)B_(12) *** elements of HEAs bond with each other to form a highly disordered configu ration,which could result in an optimized bonding energy and enhanced intrinsic catalytic *** electrocatalysis activity measurements indicate that the amorphous HEA endows a much higher activity than the crystalline one,which is further improved by the electrochemical etching ***,the HEA ribbon etched for 3 h requires a low overpotential of 230 mV to afford 10 ma cm^(-2) current *** addition,density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the amorphous structure can weaken the interaction between the surface of Fe_(29)Co_(27)Ni_(23)Si_(9)B_(12) alloy and the intermediates,leading to an optimized adsorption Gibbs free energy.

Impact of aperture on dynamic response of sandwich plates with aluminium face-sheets and PMI core based on an alternative finite element formulation and experiments

Apertures generally exist in the sandwich structures attributing to mechanical connection and lightweight, which might induce failure of such structures. Thus, it is required to realize the impact of aperture on mechanical behaviors of sandwich structures. If transverse shear deformations are unable to be described accurately, the reasonable prediction of dynamic behaviors of the form-core sandwich plates with apertures will meet severe challenges due to a large difference of transverse shear modulus at the adjacent layers. Thereby, such issue is less studied by using the efficient models and experimental testing, so an alternative sinusoidal-type finite element formulation is to be proposed to precisely predict dynamic response of the form-core sandwich structures with apertures. The proposed finite element formulation can meet beforehand compatible conditions of transverse shear stresses at the interfaces of adjacent laminates. In order to appraise strictly capability of the proposed model, experimental tests on natural frequencies of three groups of specimens with different apertures have been carried out. Moreover, four specimens in each group are tested to reduce the testing errors, which is less reported in the published literature. In addition,three-dimensional Finite Element Method(3-D FEM) is also selected to account for the good performance of the present model. Finally, the impact of aperture diameter on the natural frequencies of the sandwich structures is both experimentally and numerically investigated, which can serve as a reference for other researchers.

The isomer ^(229m)Th is the most promising candidate for clocks based on the nuclear transition because it has the lowest excitation energy of only 8.10±0.17 *** experiments and theories have focused on methods of triggering the transition between the ground state and isomeric state,among which the electronic bridge(EB)is one of the most *** this paper,we propose a new electronic bridge mechanism via two-photon excitation based on quantum optics for a two-level nuclear quantum *** long-lived 7 s1/2 electronic shell state of^(229m)Th^(3+),with a lifetime of approximately 0.6 s,is chosen as the initial state and the atomic shells(7 s-10 s)could be achieved as virtual states in a two-photon *** the virtual states return to the initial state 7 s1/2,there is a chance of triggering the nucleus 229Th^(3+),to its isomeric state ^(229m)Th ^(3+),via *** lasers at moderate intensity((10^(10)-10^(14))W/m^(2)),with photon energies near the optical range,are expected to populate the isomer at a saturated rate of approximately 10^(9) s^(-1),which is much higher than that due to other *** believe that this twophoton EB scheme can help in the development of nuclear clocks and deserves verification via a series of experiments with ordinary lasers in laboratories.

Formation of disinfection by-products during sodium hypochlorite cleaning of fouled membranes from membrane bioreactors

Periodic chemical cleaning with sodium hypochlorite(NaClO)is essential to restore the membrane permeability in a membrane bioreactor(MBR).However,the chlorination of membrane foulants results in the formation of disinfection by-products(DBPs),which will cause the deterioration of the MBR effluent and increase the antibiotic resistance in bacteria in the MBR *** this study,the formation of 14 DBPs during chemical cleaning offouled MBR membrane modules was *** with the effects of biofilm extracellular polymeric substances(EPS),influences of reaction time,NaClO dosage,initial pH,and cleaning temperature on the DBP formation were *** acids(HAAs)and trichloromethane(TCM),composed over 90%of the DBPs,were increasingly accumulated as the NaClO cleaning time *** increasing the chlorine dosage,temperature,and pH,the yield of TCM and dichloroacetic acid(DCAA)was increased by up to a factor of 1–14,whereas the yields of haloacetonitriles(HANs)and haloketones(HKs)were *** decreasing in the chlorine dosage and cleaning temperature or adjusting the pH of cleaning reagents toward acidic or alkaline could effectively reduce the toxic risks caused by *** the EPS extraction pretreatment,the formation of DBPs was accelerated in the first 12 h due to the damage of biofilm *** laser scanning microscopy(CLSM)images showed that EPS,particularly polysaccharides,were highly resistant to chlorine and might be able to protect the cells exposed to chlorination.

The biomimetic design provides efficient self-healing of ultrahightough and damage-warning bio-based elastomer for protective clothing of metals

Facing the ubiquitous corrosion threat,the great significance of developing high-performance protective materials with the dual function of self-healing defects and self-warning damage is extremely ***,inspired by the biological skin and pearls,we proposed that the biological polyurethanes(PU)embedded with multiple dynamic bonds(reversible hydrogen bonds and aromatic disulfide bonds)were combined with polydopamine(PDA)/1,10-phenanthroline(Phen)/graphene oxide(GO)(PPG)nanosheets(PDA encapsulated GO with Phen)to obtain a versatile nacre structure polymer with the interface hydrogen bond between PPG and PU *** biomimetic polymer not only guarantees ultrahigh toughness(116.1 MJ·m^(-3))and abnormal elongation(2320%)but shows satisfactory repair performance(81%under 25℃ for 3 h),and the coating can accelerate damage recovery(87%)under near-infrared light(NIR)irradiation for 1 h due to the photothermal properties of *** warning of damages in the coating can be enabled through the Phen chelation Fe^(2+)ions that bring in the corrosion reaction to produce a conspicuous red color,thereby achieving the active warning function of the bionic coating on defects for the first *** addition,the electrochemical tests exhibit that the repair performance and protection effect of the biomimetic coating in 3.5 wt.%NaCl solution are also trustworthy,and this highly reliable bio-based bionic coating brings a revolutionary program to inaugurate multifunctional and high-performance intelligent materials under harsh environments.

Tailoring the Spatial Distribution and Content of Inorganic Nitrides in Solid-Electrolyte Interphases for the Stable Li Anode in Li-S Batteries

Among the alternatives to lithium-ion batteries,lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are considered as an attractive option because of their high theoretical energy density of 2570 Wh kg^(−1).However,the application of the Li-S battery has been plagued by the rapid failure of the Li anode due to the Li dendrite growth and severe parasitic reactions between Li and lithium *** physicochemical properties of the solid-electrolyte interphase have a profound impact on the performance of the Li ***,a lithium polyacrylic acid/lithium nitrate(LPL)-protective layer is developed to inhibit the dendrite Li growth and parasitic reactions by tailoring the spatial distribution and content of LiN_(x)O_(y) and Li_(3)N at the *** modified SEI is thoroughly investigated for compositions,ion transport properties,and Li plating/stripping ***,the Li-S cell with a high S loading cathode(5.0 mg cm^(−2)),LPL layer-protected thin Li anode(50μm),and 40μL electrolyte shows a long life span of 120 *** work evokes the avenue for regulating the spatial distribution of inorganic nitride at the SEI to suppress the formation of Li dendrites and parasitic reactions in Li-S batteries and perhaps guiding the design of analogous battery systems.

Increasing Anthropogenic Mercury Pollution over the Last 200 Years Revealed by Lagoonal Sediments from Hainan Island,South China

The toxic heavy metal mercury(Hg)has significantly enhanced the global Hg cycle influenced by human activities over the last *** this study,we presented a high-resolution Hg deposition history between∼1780 and 2015 AD in a sediment core from Xincun Lagoon,located in the southeastern Hainan Island,South China,and analyzed it in conjunction with geochemical elements,grain-size distribution,organic matter,and HYSPLIT backward trajectory *** objective was to investigate the influencing factors affecting historical Hg deposition in relatively remote regions and assess the extent of the effects of natural background and human *** results showed that the Hg in the sediment was deposited primarily through atmospheric deposition,which was closely related to regional and even global human *** Hg contamination increased gradually from the 1830s to 1850s,possibly due to Hg emissions from Opium Wars I and II occurring in southeastern *** broad peaks of anthropogenic Hg were observed during the 1910s to 1950s and in the 1980s,likely associated with the two world wars and modern Chinese *** addition,a further sharp increase in anthropogenic Hg from the mid-1970s to the present occurred,likely originating from the intense industrial activities in China triggered by the reform and opening-up policy of China in 1978 and some countries in Southeast Asia.
