Preserving the literary past, looking to the future: the first hong Kong Literature Database

In the last two decades of the 20th century, there has been an increasing interest in and emphasis on the study of the hong Kong literature in both the academic and general public in hong Kong. Recognizing the emergent need of the resources on hong Kong literature, the University Library System of the Chinese University of.h.ng Kong set up the hong Kong Literature Database （the “Database”）, which was the first Chinese literature database in the Internet in 2000. The paper will examine how the database is constructed using XML technology andometadata schema, The database also employs Unicode UTf-8 as the internal code. A mapping table for traditional and simplified Chinese characters was created based on Unihan and is used behind the scene so that a user can either input traditional or simplified Chinese characters and retrieval will give both traditional and simplified Chinese characters. Currently 65% of journals use OCR technology so that full-text searching is possible. The Chinese OCR technology will be examined in greater detail. Special features of the Database such as, page-by-page browse mode, position-highlight for full-page newspaper, linking Table-Of-Contents and book jackets from the Library catalogue, etc. are described. The paper will also bring out the problem of massive downloading and compare the state-of-the-art technology and their shortcomings. This paper shows how the hong Kong Literature Database facilitates future collaboration and data exchange by using open standard, shareable structure and the latest technology.

Regulation the electronic density of solid-state electrolyte by donor–acceptor(D–A)system can achieve highly-selective Li^(+)transportation and conduction in solid-state Li metal *** study reports a high-performance solid-state electrolyte thorough D–A-linked covalent organic frameworks(COfs)based on intramolecular charge transfer *** other reported COfbased solid-state electrolyte,the developed concept with D–A-linked COfs not only achieves electronic modulation to promote highly-selective Li^(+)migration and inhibit Li dendrite,but also offers a crucial opportunity to understand the role of electronic density in solid-state Li metal *** introduced strong electronegativity f-based ligand in COf electrolyte results in highlyselective Li^(+)(transference number 0.83),high ionic conductivity(6.7×10^(-4)S cm^(−1)),excellent cyclic ability(1000 h)in Li metal symmetric cell and high-capacity retention in Li/LifePO_(4)cell(90.8%for 300 cycles at 5C)than substituted C-and N-based *** is ascribed to outstanding D–A interaction between donor porphyrin and acceptor f atoms,which effectively expedites electron transferring from porphyrin to f-based ligand and enhances Li^(+)***,we anticipate that this work creates insight into the strategy for accelerating Li^(+)conduction in high-performance solid-state Li metal batteries through D–A system.

Local Convective heat Transfer from Small heaters to Impinging Submerged Axisymmetric Jets of Seven Coolants with Prandtl Number Ranging from 0.7 to 348

Using seven working fluids, a systematic experimental study was performed to investigate the local convective heat transfer from vertical heaters to impinging circular submerged jets in the range of Reynolds number between 1.17 ×102 and 3.69 × 104 with the emphasis placed on the examination of Prandtl number dependence. heat transfer coefficiellts at the stagnation point were collected and correlated with the plate held within and beyond the potential core. Radial distribution of the local heat transfer coefficient was measured with five test liquids. Based on the measured profiles of the local heat transfer, a correlation was developed to cover the entire range of the radial distance. Besides the presellt data, the correlations developed in this work were also compared with a large quantity of available data of circular air jets. General agreement was observed between the air data and the correlat ions.

Research on high-Speed Drilling Performances of Austenitic Stainless Steels

Due to specific properties arising from their structure (high ductility, high toughness,strong tenacious and low heat conductivity), the stainless steels have poor machinability. The drilling of the stainless steels becomes the machining difficulty for their serious work-hardening and abrasion of tools. In this paper, the austenitic stainless steel is used as the work-piece to perform the contrastive experiments with the TiN coated and TiAlN-coated high-speed steel drills. The cutting force, torque, cutting temperature, and the abrasion of drills and tool life are tested and analyzed in the process of.h.gh-speed drilling. Experiment results show the effect of drilling speed on cutting force, cutting temperature, and drill wear. TiAlN-coated drills demonstrate better performances in high speed drilling. The research results will be of great benefit in the selection of drills and in the control of tool wear in high speed drilling of stainless steels.

Numerical study of convective heat transfer of a supersonic combustor with varied inlet flow conditions

Characteristics of convective heat transfer of a supersonic model combustor with variable inlet flow conditions were studied by numerical simulation in this *** three-dimensional flow and wall heat flux at different air inlet mach numbers of 2.2,2.8 and 3.2 were studied numerically with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with a shear-stress transport(SST)k-ωturbulence model and a three-step reaction ***,ethylene was chosen as the fuel,and the fixed fuel-to-air equivalence ratio is 0.8 in all cases in this *** results of the simulations indicate that wall heat flux distribution of the combustor is very non-uniform with several peaks of wall heat flux at varied *** the low inlet mach number of 2.2,a shock train structure is formed in the isolator,and three peaks of wall heat flux are located respectively on the backward face of the cavity,on the side wall near the fuel injection and on the bottom wall near the injection holes,and a maximum wall heat flux reaches 5.4 MW/*** the medium inlet mach number of 2.8,there exists a much shorter shock structure with three peaks of wall heat flux similar to that of mach number ***,as the inlet mach number increased to 3.2,there is no shock structure upstream of fuel injections,and the combustor flow is in a supersonic mode with different locations and values of wall heat flux *** statistical results of wall heat loading show that the change of total wall heat is not monotonic with the increase of inlet mach number,and the maximum appears in the case of mach number being ***,for all the cases,the bottom wall takes up more than 50%of the total heat loading.

The new technology of continuous casting by heated mold was used to produce directional solidification ZA alloy lines to eliminate the inter defects of these lines and increase their mechanical properties. The results are as follows: (1) The microstruc-ture of the ZA alloy lines is the parallel directional dendritic columnar crystal. Every dendritic crystal of eutectic alloy ZA5 was composed of many layer eutectic β and η phases. The micro structure of.h.pereutectic ZA alloys is primary dendritic crystal and interdendritic eutectic structure. The primary phase of ZA8 and ZA12 is β, among them, but the primary phase of ZA22 and ZA27 is a. (2) Through the test to the as-cast ZA alloy lines made in continuous casting by heated mold, it is found that the tensile strength and hardness increase greatly, but the elongation decreases. With the increase of aluminum amount from ZA 5 to ZA 12, ZA22 and ZA27, the tensile strength increases gradually. ZA27 has the best comprehensive mechanical properties in these four kinds of ZA alloys. (3) heat treatment can decrease the dendritic segregation and improve the elongation of ZA alloy, but make their strength decrease slightly.

Photocurrent improvement of an ultra-thin silicon solar cell using the localized surface plasmonic effect of clustering nanoparticles

The cluster-shaped plasmonic nanostructures are used to manage the incident light inside an ultra-thin silicon solar *** we simulate spherical,conical,pyramidal,and cylindrical nanoparticles in a form of a cluster at the rear side of a thin silicon cell,using the finite difference time domain(fDTD)*** calculating the optical absorption and hence the photocurrent,it is shown that the clustering of nanoparticles significantly improves *** photocurrent enhancement is the result of the plasmonic effects of clustering the *** comparison,first a cell with a single nanoparticle at the rear side is *** four smaller nanoparticles are put around it to make a *** photocurrents of 20.478 ma/cm2,23.186 ma/cm2,21.427 ma/cm2,and 21.243 ma/cm2 are obtained for the cells using clustering conical,spherical,pyramidal,cylindrical NPs at the backside,*** values are 13.987 ma/cm2,16.901 ma/cm2,16.507 ma/cm2,17.926 ma/cm2 for the cell with one conical,spherical,pyramidal,cylindrical NPs at the backside,***,clustering can significantly improve the ***,the distribution of the electric field and the generation rate for the proposed structures are calculated.

A mathematical model coupling the momentum, energy and species conservation equa-tions was proposed to calculate the macro--segregation of fe--C alloy ingot during solid-ification. The corresponding simulation software which concurrently solves the macro-scopic mass, momentum, energy and species conservation equations has been developedby applying the SIMPLE algorithm.The thermo--solutal convection in a Nh_4 Cl--h_2O ingot is verified and the result showsgood agreement with that reported. Then macro--segregation in a steel ingot is simu-lated by using the developed program. The steel ingot is in a rectangular mold with ariser. The fluid flow is mainly induced by the temperature field and the solid fraction.The macro--segregation pattern is mainly affected by the thermo--induced convectionin the mushy zone. The negative segregation forms along the walls of the casting.The positive segregation forms at the top center of the casting into the riser. Thespecies concentration reaches the peak in the center of the ingot where solidificationends lastly.

Topological crystalline insulator(TCI)as a new type of topological materials has attracted extensive research interests for its tunable topological *** its symmetry topological protection essence,the structure investigation provides a solid basement for tuning its topological transport *** SrTiO3(111)substrate,the SnTe film was found to be epitaxial growth only along[001]while not[111]*** detailed structural study was performed and a structural model was proposed to elucidate epitaxial growth of the SnTe(001)*** transport properties of SnTe(001)film were further investigated and a typical weak anti-localization effect was *** Pb-doping into SnTe,the bulk carriers were inhibited and its topological surface states were strengthened to induce the enhanced surface transport *** tunable multiple transport channels from the even Dirac cones,the TCI SnTe film systems will have the potential application in future spintronics devices.

Chemical resistance tests on PP-ternary nanocomposite for its application in bioreactor liner fabrication

Continuous usage of bioreactor causes early degradation of most bioreactor liner materials due to the effects of various chemicals, consequently resulting in contamination in the bioprocess. Performance of PP-ternary nanocomposite (PPTN) for its potential application in the fabrication of bioreactor liner material was investigated in this study. The chemical resistance of the composite samples obtained was tested by exposing them to chemicals such as acid, alkaline, water and bacterial solutions, according to ASTM 543-06, and their effects on the composite samples were carefully observed. Specifically, the investigation focused on the changes in the physico-mechanical properties of PPTN following long term of exposure to these chemicals. The results show slight increase in the weight and dimensions of samples in the first few days, followed by constant reading for the period of 4 weeks. The performance in terms of physical properties was in the range of PPTN with 0.61% MWCNT > PPTN 0.45% > PPTN 0.17%. The maximum percentage change in tensile properties, observed in this study, was approximately 10% against PPTN (0.17%), which indicates stable mechanical properties of the composite and invariably suggests that the nanocomposites could serve as a better alternative for bioreactor liner fabrication.
