Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the best characterised cancers, with extensive data documenting the sequential gene mutations that underlie its development. Complementary datasets are also being generated describing changes in protein and RNA expression, tumour biology and clinical outcome. Both the quantity and the variety of information are inexorably increasing and there is now an accompanying need to integrate these highly disparate datasets. In this article we aim to explain why we believe that mathematical modelling represents a natural tool or language with which to integrate these data and, in so doing, to provide insight into CRC.

疲劳对船员健康和安全的影响已经在海运业以及学术界引起了广泛的关注。本研究对研究海上作业疲劳相关危险因素的文献进行分析。由于该领域文献非常有限,因此,必要时收录与船员有相似暴露特征的人群研究,如实施轮班的工作人群。海上工作涉及疲劳相关的多个外部危险因素,比如工作紧张、不规律工作、睡眠的定型和定量指标、工作负荷和诸如噪声和船体运动等物理因素。疲劳的易感性有个体差异。鉴于船员疲劳发生的高频度及其带来后果的严重性,在可能的范围内消除疲劳的危险因素尤为重要。

疲劳对船员健康和安全的严重影响以及其在海运业、学术界引起的广泛关注,表明对海上作业预防性干预措施进一步研究的重要性。本研究对缓解海上作业疲劳方式的文献进行分析,对有关集体和个体的海员疲劳缓解的国际立法及基于研究的建议进行了综述。鉴于船员疲劳的发生的频度及其结果的严重性,我们应该重新审视当前法律法规的有效性和行业的依从性,国际商船的人员配备,以及海上船员的工作、生活和睡眠环境的优化等问题。考虑海运作业的特殊性,例如,天气、不可避免的轮班作业和时区跨越,应进一步评价预防性干预措施的可能性,包括疲劳预测工具和个体疲劳缓解管理系统等。

Growth and Yield of Guar (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba L.) Genotypes under Different Planting Dates in the Semi-Arid Southern High Plains

Guar is a drought and salt tolerant summer annual legume, which could be a potential alternative crop in the semi-arid Southern High Plains. Increased use of guar gum in oil industries has increased the demand of guar globally. Planting date effects on stand establishment, physiological parameters, and yield formation of guar genotypes were investigated at the New mexico State University’s Agricultural Science Center at Clovis, Nm for two seasons (2014 and 2015). Four guar genotypes (HES 1123, Kinman, Lewis, and matador) were tested under three planting dates (June 18, July 7, and July 22 in 2014;and June 18, July 6, and July 20 in 2015). Higher temperature and rainfall were recorded under mid-June planting than early-July and late-July plantings. Guar planted under mid-June had better stand establishment as shown by the higher number of plants m-2, better physiology as revealed by higher photosynthetic rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr), leaf area index (LAI), and SPAD values than early-July and late-July plantings. Guar planted under mid-June resulted in taller plants, and therefore, produced higher plant biomass than both of the July plantings. Yield attributing characteristics including clusters plant-1, pods plant-1, seeds plant-1, seed spod-1, 1000 seed weight, and harvest index (HI) were highest under mid-June planting followed by the early-July and late-July plantings, respectively. The mid-June planting increased seed yield by 26% and 55% over early-July and late-July (1399 vs. 1111 and 903 kg·ha-1) plantings, respectively in 2014;while the same increase in 2015 was 51% and 243% (1308 vs. 868 and 381 kg·ha-1), respectively. These results indicate that delaying planting beyond mid-June is detrimental to guar productivity. However, genotypes did not show any significant variation in their performance. 可里尼(Kelian)矿床是目前在第三纪火山岩中发现的金矿床之一,它位于印度尼西亚的婆罗洲(Borneo)加里曼丹北东走向的带内,该带长400kin。矿床由两个主要矿体(即东普拉姆普Prampus矿体和西普拉姆普矿体)和四个小矿化带所组成。若将该矿床潜在储量7500万吨、Au品位达1.8g/t计算在内,则可里尼矿床是印度尼西亚最大的金矿床。可里尼矿床发现于1976年,其后对可里尼冲积砂金作了研究,包括用传统技术对水系沉积物进行分析,淘洗富集砂金和对岩石浮土和野外露头采样等,后来,又进一步作了包括土壤采样、槽探、浅钻、大地磁法、激发极化以及60000m深钻工作。矿区地层为一套硅质的火山碎屑岩,向上碎屑粒级变小,形成了一系列晚始新世沉积地层。该系列岩石中发育有走向北或北东的褶皱和断裂,并伴有大量中新世安山质或粗面安山质次火山岩的侵入。在安山岩侵位以后,形成了热液系统。这种热液体系可引起围岩蚀变、矿化作用以及形成热液角砾等。在研究区内,被保留下来的热液体系的面积约1km^2,其深度至少达600m。据有限的几个放射性年龄数据证明,该热液蚀变作用发生在大约20ma。蚀变与矿化作用过程彼此交替,但大体可为分四个阶段: Ⅰ阶段:在较大安山岩体核部的蚀变作用其矿物组合为绿泥石+碳酸盐+绢云母+黄铁矿士绿帘石。ⅡA阶段:在岩体为局部裂隙的形成并伴有绢云母±石英的沉积作用。ⅡB阶段:即主体阶段,在这一阶段,由于热的(290～330℃)、低盐度(0.5～4.2％maCl)和富含CO_2的热液作用,形成了大量的裂隙和热液角砾,并伴有蚀变作用和少量Ag—As矿化作用,也有部分Au的矿化作用。其蚀变矿物组合为冰长石+绢云母+石英,CO_2的大量沸腾逸散造成冰长石矿物大量增加和绢云母矿物的减少。在该热液系统的更深部,形成了石英+绢云母+方解石组合,而无冰长石出现。Ⅲ阶段:岩浆在东普拉姆普区,重新活动,使挥发组分释放进入列热液系统中,从而产生热(300～330℃)、盐度(>10％NaCl)、富含CO_2的热卤水,并形成了大量裂隙以及热液角砾。伴随着沸腾作用,形成了碳酸盐±石英±绢云母矿物组合,并伴有Au及其它贱金属元素的矿化作用。碳酸盐中初始碳稳定同位素证明热液来自岩浆,上升的热卤水流体与下降的相对低pH值冷水相混合后,导致复杂的碳酸盐矿物分带现象、流体盐度范围较宽以及较均一的温度。离开角砾岩化和沸腾作用中心,Au和其它贱金属元素与碳酸盐和(或者)石英一起在较稳定的环境下沉淀。Ⅳ阶段:即晚期阶段,在热液体系的顶部和边缘,由于温度相对较低(200℃)低的pH值(3～4),和富集CO_2,从而形成了高岭±+Fe/mn碳酸盐+黄铁矿±赤铁矿士辰砂矿物组合。继岩浆与热液事件之后,在中一晚中新世期间,本区抬升900多米并发生剥蚀作用,在上新世—更新世发生了玄武质火山岩浆的喷发。第二次剥蚀作用始于更新世,并将覆盖在矿体上的大部分年轻的火山岩剥蚀掉,形成了现今所见的矿床露头。

Asymmetric (ADmA) and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDmA) inhibit production of nitric oxide. The concentration of both dimethylarginines is regulated by urina ry excretion, although ADmA, but not SDmA, is also subject to degradation by dim ethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase, which is highly expressed in the liver but also present in the kidney. The exact roles of the human liver and kidney in th e metabolism of dimethylarginines are currently unknown. Therefore, we aimed to investigate renal and hepatic handling of ADmA and SDmA in detail in 24 patients undergoing hepatic surgery. To calculate net organ fluxes and fractional extrac tion (FE) rates, blood was collected from an arterial line, the portal vein, hep atic vein, and renal vein, and blood flow of the hepatic artery, portal vein, an d renal vein was determined using Doppler ultrasound techniques. Results showed a significant net uptake (median [IQR]) of ADmA in both the liver (9.6 nmol/min [5.6- 13.2] ) and the kidney (12.1 nmol/min [1.3- 17.1]). SDmA uptake was pres ent not only in the kidney (12.7 nmol/min [3.5- 25.4]), but also in the liver ( 7.7 nmol/min [2.8- 16.4]). FE rates of ADmA for the liver and kidney were 5.0% (3.5% - 7.4% ) and 8.4% (1.3% - 13.9% ), respectively. For SDmA, hepat ic and renal FE rates were 3.4% (2.1% - 7.5% ) and 12.5% (3.6% - 16.2% ), respectively. In conclusion, this study gives a detailed description of the hepatic and renal elimination of dimethylarginines and shows that the clearing o f SDmA is not only confined to the kidney, but the human liver also takes up sub stantial amounts of SDmA from the portal and systemic circulation.

Purpose: To study the relationship between retinal vessel diameters and incide nt age-relatedmacular disease (iAmD).Design: Prospective population-based coho rt study. Participants: Persons (55 years and older) from the Rotterdam Study, w ho participated at the baseline (1990-1993) and 1 of 2 follow up examinations ( 1993-1994 and 1997-1999). methods: In the current analysis, 4345 participants who were free of AmD at baseline and had gradable macular transparencies at both baseline and follow-up examination were included. Also, arteriolar and venular diameters were measured on digitized baseline images. Stereoscopic transparenci es of the macular region were graded according to the International Classificati on and Grading System for AmD. Incidence of AmD was defined as the development o f soft distinct drusen with pigmentary changes or indistinct or reticular drusen with or without pigmentary changes (early iAmD) or atrophic or neovascular AmD (late iAmD). Logistic regression models were used to assess these associations, adjusting for age, gender, and follow-up time and, additionally, for smoking, b ody mass index, intima-media thickness, systolic blood pressure, and total and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. main Outcome measure: Incidence of AmD. Results: After a mean follow-up time of 5.2 years, a total of 374 persons developed early and late iAmD. Neither arteriolar nor venular diameters were re lated to the risk of iAmD. The odds ratio (OR) per standard deviation (SD) decre ase in arteriolar diameter was 1.03 (95%confidence interval [CI], 0.93-1.15) , and the OR per SD increase in venular diameter was 1.04 (95%CI, 0.93-1.16). Af ter categorizing the retinal vessel diameters into quintiles, there was no trend .
