Here,furfural oxidation was performed to replace the kinetically sluggish O2evolution reaction（OER）.Pt-Co3O4nanospheres were developed via pulsed laser ablation in liquid（PLAL） in a single step for the paired electrocatalysis of an H2evolution reaction（HER） and furfural oxidation reaction（FOR）.The FOR afforded a high furfural conversion（44.2%） with a major product of2-furoic acid after a 2-h electrolysis at 1.55 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode in a 1.0-m KOH/50-mm furfural *** Pt-Co3O4electrode exhibited a small overpotential of 290 mV at 10 mA *** an anode and cathode in an electrolyzer system,the Pt-Co3O4electrocatalyst required only a small applied cell voltage of ～1.83 V to deliver 10 mA cm-2,compared with that of the pure water electrolyzer（OER‖HER,～1.99 V）.This study simultaneously realized the integrated production of energy-saving H2 fuel at the cathode and 2-furoic acid at the anode.

BACKGROUND Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)following liver transplantation(LT)has a devastating influence on recipients’survival;however,the risk of recur-rence is not routinely *** stratification is vital with a long LT waiting time,as that could influence the recurrence despite strict listing *** This study aims to identify predictors of recurrence and develop a novel risk pre-diction score to forecast HCC recurrence following *** A retrospective review of LT for HCC recipients at University Hospitals Bir-mingham between July 2011 and February *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify recurrence predictors,based on which the novel SImAP500(satellite nodules,increase in size,microvascular invasion,AFP>500,poor differentiation)risk score was *** 234 LTs for HCC were performed with a median follow-up of 5.3 *** developed in 25 patients(10.7%).On univariate analyses,RETREAT score>3,α-fetoprotein(AFP)at listing 100-500 and>500,bridging,increased tumour size between imaging at the listing time and explant histology,increase in the size of viable tumour between listing and explant,presence of satellite nodules,micro-and macrovascular invasion on explant and poor differentiation of tumours were significantly associated with recurrence,based on which,the SImAP500 risk score is *** SImAP500 demonstrated an excellent predictive ability(c-index=0.803)and outper-formed the RETREAT score(c-index=0.73).SImAP500 is indicative of the time to disease *** SImAP500 risk score identifies the LT recipients at risk of HCC *** stratification allows patient-centric post-transplant surveillance *** validation of the score is recommended.

Lunar surface mineralogy using hyperspectral data： Implications for primordial crust in the Earth-moon system

mineralogy of the Lunar surface provides important clues for understanding the composition and evo- lution of the primordial crust in the Earth-moon system. The primary rock forming minerals on the moon such as pyroxene, olivine and plagioclase are potential tools to evaluate the Lunar magma Ocean （LmO） hypothesis. Here we use the data from moon mineralogy mapper （m3） onboard the Chandrayaan- 1 project of India, which provides Visible/Near Infra Red （NIR） spectral data （hyperspectral data） of the Lunar surface to gain insights on the surface mineralogy. Band shaping and spectral profiling methods are used for identifying minerals in five sites： the moscoviense basin, Orientale basin, Apollo basin, Wegener crater-highland, and Hertzsprung basin. The common presence of plagioclase in these sites is in conformity with the anorthositic composition of the Lunar crust. Pyroxenes, olivine and Fe-mg-spinel from the sample sites indicate the presence of gabbroic and basaltic components. The compositional difference in pyroxenes suggests magmatic differentiation on the Lunar surface. Olivine contains OH/H20 band, indicating hydrous phase in the primordial magmas.

Objective:To determine repellent activity of hexane,ethyl acetate,benzene,chloroform and methanol extract of Cardiospermum halicacabum,(***) against Culex quinque/ascialus(***),Aedes aegypti(***) and Anopheles slephensi(***). methods:Evaluation was carried out in a net cage(45 cm×30 cm×25 cm) containing 100 blood starved female mosquitoes of three mosquito species and were assayed in the laboratory condition by using the protocol of WHO 2005;The plant leaf crude extracts of *** was applied at 1.0,2.5,and 5.0 me/cm^2 separately in the exposed area of the fore *** ethanol served as ***:In this observation,the plant crude extracts gave protection against mosquito bites without any allergic reaction to the test person,and also,the repellent activity was dependent on the strength of the plant *** tested plant crude extracts had exerted promising repellent against all the three ***:From the results it can be concluded the crude extract of *** was potential for controlling ***, *** and *** mosquitoes.

Objective:To investigate the larvicidal and repellent efficacy of tetradecanoic acid against Aedes aegrpti（***） L,and Culex quinquefasciatus（***） Say（Diptera: Culicidae）.methods:Larvicidal efficacy of tetradecanoic acid was tested at various concentrations against the early third instar larvae of *** and ***. The repellent activity was determined against two mosquito species at three concentrations viz..1.***.2.5 and 5.0 ppm under the laboratory ***:The tetradecanoic acid was found to be more effective against *** than *** *** LC50 values were 14.08 ppm and 25.10 ppm,*** acid showed lesser repellency against *** and *** highest repellency was observed in higher concentration of 5.0 mg/cm2 provided 100%protection up to 60 and 90 min against *** and *** ***:From the results it can be concluded the tetradecanoic acid is a potential for controlling *** and *** mosquitoes.

A simple and distinguished nebulizer approach to prepare CdS thin films

In this paper, we report the substrate temperature induced change in structural, optical, morphological,luminescence and photoelectrochemical properties of CdS films deposited by a simple and facile approach called nebulized spray pyrolysis technique. X-ray diffraction study confirmed the deposited CdS films belong to hexagonal wurtzite structure, with preferential orientation along c-axis,(002) direction perpendicular to the substrate plane. The crack free, uniform, and homogeneously distributed spherical particles are witnessed from AFm image. Various optical parameters like energy band gap, optical conductivity,refractive index, extinction coefficient, dielectric constants, and dispersion energy parameters of the films were evaluated. The strong band edge emission observed in the PL study may be attributed to the recombination of excitations and/or shallowly trapped electron-hole pairs. The first and second overtone of LO modes of CdS at 302 and 600 cm-1are observed in the Raman study. The photoelectrochemical properties of the films were also tested.

Postharvest responses of hydroponically grown lettuce varieties to nitrogen application rate

Limited information is available on the influence of preharvest N application rates on postharvest quality of different lettuce genotypes. Two green leafy lettuce (multigreen 1 and multigreen 3) and red leafy lettuce (multired 4) were grown in gravel film technique and fertigated with five different N application rates: 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 mg L^-1. The 120 mg L^-1 N application is commercially recommended for lettuce. After harvest, lettuce samples were packed in a bioriented poly propylene packaging (5% O2 and 5% CO2) and held at 5°C and 85% RH for 3, 6, 9 and 12 days. The genotypes, preharvest N application rates and storage time affected the leaf colour coordinates, phenolic acids (dicaffeoyltataric acid, caffeoyl tartaric acid, 3-caffeoylquinic acid and 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid) and browning enzyme activities (phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL), polyphenol oxidase (PPO) and peroxidase (POD)). Lower rates of N application at preharvest stage showed higher weight loss with the storage time increasing in multigreen 3. In multigreen 1, colour coordinate b* value decreased remarkably with N application rates from 60 to 120 mg L^–1 due to the onset of browning during storage. While in multigreen 3 and N application higher than 60 mg L^–1 influenced the decrease in b* value. Browning occurred due to the increased activity of PAL enzyme and the availability of the substrates caftaric, chlorogenic, caffeic acids, PPO activity and production of browning pigments due to the activity of POD. Higher, N application rates (>120 mg L^–1) influenced the browning mechanism and showed brownish red leaves in multired 4 during storage. Higher ascorbic acid concentration played a role in reducing the onset of browning in the fresh cuts leaves of mulitired 4 and multigreen 3 fertilized with lower preharvest lower N application rates (mg L^–1).
