Potential Use of a Poultry manure Digestate as a Biofertiliser:Evaluation of Soil Properties and Lactuca sativa Growth

Anaerobic digestion is a process that is widely used for the treatment of organic wastes. The digestate can be used as a soil amendment or crop fertiliser. The aims of our work were to evaluate 1) the physicochemical composition and pathogen content in a digestate from poultry manure, according to international regulations, and 2) the effect of its soil application on the major chemical and biological soil properties and on the growth of Lactuca sativa. The experiment consisted of two groups of pots(with and without crop). Treatments applied to each group were as follows: low and high doses of digestate and inorganic fertiliser, and no application(control)(low dose: 70 kg nitrogen(N) ha^(-1) and 21 kg phosphorus(P) ha^(-1); high dose: 210 kg N ha^(-1) and 63 kg P ha^(-1)). Soil samples were taken 7 and 34 d(harvest) after treatment applications. Heavy metal and pathogen contents in the digestate were below the upper limit values. Despite the high pH and electrical conductivity values of the digestate, both soil parameters presented acceptable values for crop growth. Although there were no initial increases in total inorganic N and available P in soil with digestate application, an increase in the fresh weight of crop was observed with the high dose application. This is probably associated with the slow nutrient release from the digestate during the development of the crop. Changes in the microbial community were temporary and occurred at the initial sampling stage of the experiment.

Biometric and ICL-related risk factors associated to sub-optimal vaults in eyes implanted with implantable collamer lenses

Background:To identify biometric and implantable collamer lens(ICL)-related risk factors associated with suboptimal postoperative vault in eyes implanted with phakic ***:This study reports a retrospective case series of the first operated eye in 360 patients implanted with myopic spherical or toric ***,white-to-white(WTW),central keratometry(Kc)and central corneal thickness(CCT)were measured using the ***-segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT,Visante)was applied preoperatively for measuring the horizontal anterior-chamber angle-to-angle distance(ATA),internal anterior chamber depth(ACD),crystalline lens rise(CLR),anterior-chamber angle(ACA)and postoperatively the *** were divided into three vault groups:low(LVG:≤250μm),optimal(OVG:>250 andm)and high(HVG:≥1000μm).multinomial logistic regression(mLR)was used to find the sub-optimal vault ***:mLR showed that CLR,ICL size minus the ATA(ICL size-ATA),age,ICL spherical equivalent(ICLSE)and ICL size as contributing factors for sub-optimal vaults(pseudo-R2=0.40).Increased CLR(OR:1.01,CI:1.00-1.01)and less myopic ICLSE(OR:1.22,CI:1.07-1.40)were risk factors for low *** ICL size-ATA(OR:41.29,CI:10.57-161.22)and the 13.7mm ICL(OR:7.08,CI:3.16-15.89)were risk factors for high vaults,whereas less myopic ICLSE(OR:0.85,CI:0.76-0.95)and older age(OR:0.92,CI:0.88-0.98)were protective ***:High CLR and low ICLSE were the major risk factors in eyes presenting low *** the opposite direction,ICL size-ATA was the major contributor for high *** relationship was more critical in higher myopic ICLSE,younger eyes and when 13.7mm ICL were *** findings show that factors influencing the vault have differentiated weight of influence depending on the type of vault(low,optimal or high).

Ectopic lignification in primary cellulose-deficient cell walls of maize cell suspension cultures

maize （Zea mays L.） suspension-cultured cells with up to 7o% less cellulose were obtained by stepwise habituation to dichlobenil （DCB）, a cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor. Cellulose deficiency was accompanied by marked changes in cell wall matrix polysaccharides and phenolics as revealed by Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectroscopy. Cell wall compositional analysis indicated that the cellulosedeficient cell walls showed an enhancement of highly branched and cross-linked arabinoxylans, as well as an increased content in ferulic acid, diferulates and p-coumaric acid, and the presence of a polymer that stained positive for phloroglucinol. In accordance with this, cellulose-deficient cell walls showed a fivefold increase in Klason-type lignin. Thioacidolysis/GC-mS analysis of cellulose-deficient cell walls indicated the presence of a lignin-like polymer with a Syringyl/Guaiacyl ratio of 1.45, which differed from the sensu stricto stress-related lignin that arose in response to shortterm DCB-treatments. Gene expression analysis of these ceils indicated an overexpression of genes specific for the biosynthesis of monolignol units of lignin. A study of stress signaling pathways revealed an overexpression of some of the iasmonate signaling pathway genes, which might trigger ectopic lignification in response to cell wall integrity disruptions. In summary, the structural plasticity of primary cell walls is proven, since a lignification process is possible in response to cellulose impoverishment.

A method to Obtain Complex Transfer Functions of Four Order DC-DC Converters

Two TFs （transfer functions） are needed to analyze switching DC-DC converters in control-voltage mode： the duty-cycle to output-voltage （control to output） and the input-voltage to output-voltage （line to output）. To obtain these TFs a small-signal analysis is required. The CCm （continuous conduction mode） and the DCm （discontinuous conduction mode） analysis are different. When a circuit includes the loss resistances of the components, the number of parameters increases considerably, making manual nodal-loop circuit analysis techniques impractical to obtain the TFs. moreover, these circuits are bilinear （non-linear） and it is necessary to linearize the equations at a DC operating-point （approximate linearization）. Vorp6rian describes a PWm （pulse-width-modulated） switch model that includes all non-linear parts of the DC-DC switching converters. This model can be linearized and replaced on the switching converter schematic leading to a linear circuit. At this point it is possible to use symbolic analysis programs to obtain these TFs or to simply apply numerical values for either the Bode diagrams or the calculation of poles and zeros. Here we describe an application of Ekrem Cangeici＇s method on X DC-DC converter to obtain control to output and line to output TFs in CCm and DCm including loss resistances. The method presented in this paper is optimized to use in the online publishing platform OctaveRS. Also the control to output TF for PCC （peak current controlled） in CCm is obtained.

The Terminal Value （TV） Performing in Firm Valuation： The Gap of Literature and Research Agenda

The uncertainty about the future of firms must be modeled and incorporated in the valuation of enterprises outside the explicit period of analysis, i.e., in the continuing or terminal value （TV）. There is a multiplicity of factors that influence the TV of firms which are not being considered within current evaluation models. This aspect leads to the incurring of unrecoverable errors, thus leading to values of goodwill or bad will far away from the substantial value of intrinsic assets. As a consequence, the evaluation results will be presented markedly different from market values. There is no consensus in the scientific community about the method of computation of the TV as a forecast in an infinite horizon. The size of the terminal, or non-explicit period, assumed as infinite, is never called into question by scientific literature, or the probability of business bankruptcy. This paper aims to promote a study of the existing literature on the TV, to highlight the fragility of the evaluation models of companies that have been used by the academic community and by financial analysts, and to point out lines for future research to minimize these errors.

BACKGROUND The gold standard treatment for papillary thyroid carcinoma is total thyroidectomy and indications for microwave thermal ablation for primary thyroid cancers have not yet been clearly established However,some patients refuse surgery and others have no indication for it,for example patients under palliative care as in this case,or cannot undergo surgery,based on their *** indications are described in the most recent Korean,North American and European *** ablation,radiofrequency ablation,and microwave ablation are similarly safe and effective,so the choice should be based on the specific competences and resources of the pertaining *** indications are Percutaneous minimally-invasive techniques;they can be useful to stop disease progression and as an alternative to surgery in patients with contraindication or who refuse *** present a case of a thyroid papillary carcinoma with 17 mm effectively treated with microwave thermal ablation and without recurrence after one year of follow *** SUmmARY The authors present a case of a 71-years-old patient with a left lobe papillary thyroid carcinoma with 13 mm×17 mm×13 mm,with no indication for thyroid surgery given the context of another cancer in palliative *** thermoablation was performed on December *** months later he repeated computed tomography(CT)scan,which showed that the tumor had *** months after ablation he underwent a positron emission tomography/CT-fluorodeoxyglucose scan,which didn’t show any evidence of hypermetabolic tumor *** This case shows microwave thermoablation can be a safe and effective alternative to surgery in patients with no conditions to undergo surgery or when they refuse *** treating the tumor,with this minimally invasive technique,we are stopping its growth and avoiding disease progression.

We conducted a large-scale density-functional theory study on the influence of the exchange-correlation functional in the calculation of electronic band gaps of ***,we use the large materials data set that we have recently proposed to benchmark 21 different functionals,with a particular focus on approximations of the meta-generalized-gradient *** these data with the results for 12 functionals in our previous work,we can analyze in detail the characteristics of each approximation and identify its strong and/or weak *** confirming that mBJ,HLE16 and HSE06 are the most accurate functionals for band gap calculations,we reveal several other interesting functionals,chief among which are the local Slater potential approximation,the GGA AK13LDA,and the meta-GGAs HLE17 and *** also compare the computational efficiency of these different *** on these data,we investigate the potential for improvement of a promising subset of functionals by varying their internal *** identified optimal parameters yield a family of functionals fitted for the calculation of band ***,we demonstrate how to train machine learning models for accurate band gap prediction,using as input structural and composition data,as well as approximate band gaps obtained from density-functional theory.

Web-based system for training and dissemination of a magnification chromoendoscopy classification

AIm： To evaluate the use of web-based technologies to assess the learning curve and reassess reproducibility of a simplified version of a classification for gastric magnification chromoendoscopy （mC）. mETHODS： As part of a multicenter trial, a hybrid approach was taken using a CD-ROm, with 20 films of mC lasting 5 s each and an ＂autorun＂ file triggering a local HTmL frameset referenced to a remote questionnaire through an Internet connection. Three endoscopists were asked to prospectively and independently classify 10 of these films randomly selected with at least 3 d apart. The answers were centrally stored and returned to participants together with adequate feedback with the right answer. RESULTS： For classification in 3 groups, both intra- [Cohen＇s kappa （K） = 0.79-1.00 to 0.89-1.00] and inter-observer agreement increased from 1st （moderate） to 6th observation （k = 0.94）. Also, agreement with reference increased in the last observations （0.90, 1.00 and 1.00, for observers A, B and C, respectively）. Validity of 100% was obtained by all observers at their 4th observation. When a 4th （sub）group was considered, inter-observer agreement was almost perfect （K = 0.92） at 6th observation. The relation with reference clearly improved into K （0.93-1.00） and sensitivity （75%-100%） at their 6th observations. CONCLUSION： This mC classification seems to be easily explainable and learnable as shown by excellent intra- and inter-observer agreement, and improved agreement with reference. A web system such as the one used in this study may be useful for endoscopic or other image based diagnostic procedures with respect to definition, education and dissemination.
