machine-to-machine (m2m) communication plays a fundamental role in autonomous IoT (Internet of Things)-based infrastructure, a vital part of the fourth industrial revolution. machine-type communication devices(mTCDs) regularly share extensive data without human intervention while making all types of decisions. Thesedecisions may involve controlling sensitive ventilation systems maintaining uniform temperature, live heartbeatmonitoring, and several different alert systems. many of these devices simultaneously share data to form anautomated system. The data shared between machine-type communication devices (mTCDs) is prone to risk dueto limited computational power, internal memory, and energy capacity. Therefore, securing the data and devicesbecomes challenging due to factors such as dynamic operational environments, remoteness, harsh conditions,and areas where human physical access is difficult. One of the crucial parts of securing mTCDs and data isauthentication, where each devicemust be verified before data transmission. Severalm2mauthentication schemeshave been proposed in the literature, however, the literature lacks a comprehensive overview of current m2mauthentication techniques and the challenges associated with them. To utilize a suitable authentication schemefor specific scenarios, it is important to understand the challenges associated with it. Therefore, this article fillsthis gap by reviewing the state-of-the-art research on authentication schemes in mTCDs specifically concerningapplication categories, security provisions, and performance efficiency.

In this study, the mean droplet diameter in the cavity zone and the total mass transfer area of a multi-stage highspeed disperser(HSD) reactor with different packing combinations were measured and evaluated. The effects of rotational speed and packing radius, as well as the packing ring radius and numbers, on the mean droplet diameter and the total mass transfer area were evaluated. A model was established to calculate the mass transfer area in the cavity zone in the HSD reactor, and it was found that the packings contribute 61%–82% of the total mass transfer area. A correlation for predicting the mass transfer area in the packing zone was regressed by the dimensionless analysis method. An enhancement factor based on the mass transfer area in the packing zone was proposed to evaluate the effect of packing combination on mass transfer area. Two optimum packing combinations were proposed in consideration of the mean droplet diameter and the enhancement factor.

Since the early 2000s, many satellite passive microwave brightness temperature （BT） archives, such as the Advanced microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System （AmSR-E） BTs, have become the useful resources for assessing the changes in the surface and deep soil moistures over both arid and semi-arid regions. In this study, we used a new soil effective temperature （T scheme and the archived AmSR-E BTs to estimate surface soil moisture （Sm） over the Nagqu region in the central Tibetan Plateau, China. The surface and deep soil temperatures required for the calculation of regional-scale T were obtained from outputs of the Community Land model version 4.5 （CLm4.5）. In situ Sm measurements at the CEOP-CAmP/Tibet （Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period Asia-Australia monsoon Project on the Tibetan Plateau） experimental sites were used to validate the AmSR-E-based Sm estimations at regional and single-site scales. Furthermore, the spatial distribution of monthly mean surface Sm over the Nagqu region was obtained from 16 daytime AmSR-E BT observations in July 2004 over the Nagqu region. Results revealed that the AmSR-E-based surface Sm estimations agreed well with the in situ-based surface Sm measurements, with the root mean square error （RmSE） ranging from 0.042 to 0.066 m3/m3 and the coefficient of determination （R2） ranging from 0.71 to 0.92 during the nighttime and daytime. The regional surface soil water state map showed a clear spatial pattern related to the terrain. It indicated that the lower surface Sm values occurred in the mountainous areas of the northern, mid-western and southeastern parts of Nagqu region, while the higher surface Sm values appeared in the low elevation areas such as the Tongtian River Basin, Namco Lake and bog meadows in the central part of Nagqu region. Due to the advancement in wireless technology and miniaturization,Wireless Body Area Networks(WBANs)have gained enormous popularity,having various applications,especially in the healthcare *** are intrinsically resource-constrained;therefore,they have specific design and development *** such highly desirable requirement is an energy-efficient and reliable Data Aggregation(DA)mechanism for *** efficient and reliableDAmay ultimately push the network to operate without much human intervention and further extend the network *** conventional client-serverDAparadigm becomes unsuitable and inefficient for WBANs when a large amount of data is generated in the ***,in most of the healthcare applications(patient’s critical conditions),it is highly important and required to send data as soon as possible;therefore,reliable data aggregation in WBANs is of great *** tackle the shortcomings of the client-serverDAparadigm,themobile Agent-Basedmechanismproved to be a more workable *** amobile Agent-Based mechanism,a taskspecific mobile agent(code)traverses to the intended sources to gather *** agents travel on a predefined path called itinerary;however,planning a suitable and reliable itinerary for a mobile agent is also a challenging issue *** paper presents a new mobile Agent-Based DA scheme for WBANs,which is energy-efficient and ***,in the proposed scheme,the network is divided into clusters,and cluster-heads are ***,a mobile agent is generated from the base station to collect the required data from cluster *** the case,if any fault occurs in the existing itinerary,an alternate itinerary is planned in real-time without compromising the network *** our simulation-based validation,we have found that the proposed system delivers significantly improved fault-tolerance and reliability with energy-efficiency and extended network lifetime in WBANs.
