Spinal cord injury(SCI)is a devastating and disabling medical condition generally caused by a traumatic event(primary injury).this initial trauma is accompanied by a set of biological mechanisms directed to ameliorate neural damage but also exacerbate initial damage(secondary injury).The alterations that occur in the spinal cord have not only local but also systemic consequences and virtually all organs and tissues of the body incur important changes after SCI,explaining the progression and detrimental consequences related to this ***(PNIE)is a growing area of research aiming to integrate and explore the interactions among the different systems that compose the human organism,considering the mind and the body as a *** initial traumatic event and the consequent neurological disruption trigger immune,endocrine,and multisystem dysfunction,which in turn affect the patient's psyche and *** the present review,we will explore the most important local and systemic consequences of SCI from a PNIE perspective,defining the changes occurring in each system and how all these mechanisms are ***,potential clinical approaches derived from this knowledge will also be collectively presented with the aim to develop integrative therapies to maximize the clinical management of these patients.

Effect of Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles on magnetic xerogel composites for enhanced removal of fluoride and arsenic from aqueous solution

Fe_(3)O_(4)magnetic xerogel composites were prepared by polycondensation of resorcinol(R)-formaldehyde reaction via a sol-gel process in an aqueous solution through varying the molar ratio of Fe_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles(mNPs),catalyst(C),and water(W)*** were obtained by co-precipitation(mC),oxidation of iron salts(mO),or solvothermal synthesis(mS).Both mNPs and magnetic xerogels were examined regarding the performance of arsenic and fluoride removal in a batch *** mC-based mNPs had higher adsorption capacities for both fluoride(202.9 mg/g)and arsenic(3.2 mg/g)than other mNPs in optimum *** X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy confirmed that Fe was composed into the polymeric matrix of magnetic xerogels that contained 0.59%-4.42%of Fe with a molar ratio of mNPs(m)to R between 0.01 and *** low R/C and optimum m/R ratios,an increase in the surface area of magnetic xerogels affected the fluoride and arsenic adsorption *** magnetic xerogel composites with the mC-based mNPs prepared at a fixed R/C ratio(100)and at different R/W(0.05-0.06)and m/R(0.07-0.10)ratios had a high arsenic removal efficiency of 100%at an As(V)concentration of 0.1 mg/l and pH of *** maximum adsorption capacities of magnetic xerogels were approximately five times higher than those of the xerogels without mNP ***,Fe_(3)O_(4)nanoparticles enhanced the adsorption of arsenate and *** variations of alkaline catalyst and water content significantly affected the resulting properties of textural and surface chemistry of magnetic xerogel composites.

Popularization of lithium-sulfur batteries(lSBs) is still hindered by shuttle effect and volume ***, a new modularized sulfur storage strategy is proposed to solve above problems and accomplished via employing 100% space utilization host material of cobalt loaded carbon nanoparticles derived from ZIF-67. The modular dispersed storage of sulfur not only greatly increases the proportion of active sulfur,but also inhibits the occurrence of volume expansion. meanwhile, 100% space utilization host material can greatly improve the conductivity of the cathode, provide a larger electrolyte wetting interface and effectively suppress the shuttle effect. moreover, loaded cobalt particles have high catalytic activity for electrochemical reaction and can effectively improve the redox kinetics. The cell with new cathode host material carbonized at 650 ℃(ZIF-67(650 ℃)) exhibits superior rate performance and can maintain a high specific capacity of 950 m Ah/g after 100 cycles at 0.2 C, showing a good cycle stability.

Growing evidences indicate that dysfunction of autophagy contributes to the disease pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(AlS)and frontotemporal dementia(FTD),two neurodegenerative *** GGGGCC·GGCCCC repeat RNA expansion in chromosome 9 open reading frame 72(C9orf72)is the most genetic cause of both AlS and *** to the previous studies,GGGGCC·GGCCCC repeat undergoes the unconventional repeat-associated non-ATG translation,which produces dipeptide repeat(Dpr)*** there is a growing understanding that C9orf72 Dprs have a strong ability to harm neurons and induce C9orf72-linked AlS/FTD,whether these Dprs can affect autophagy remains *** the present study,we find that poly-GR and poly-pr,two arginine-containing Dprs which display the most cytotoxic properties according to the previous studies,strongly inhibit starvation-induced ***,our data indicate that arginine-rich Dprs enhance the interaction between BCl2 and BECN1/Beclin 1 by inhibiting BCl2 phosphorylation,therefore they can impair autophagic clearance of neurodegenerative disease-associated protein aggregates under starvation condition in ***,our study not only highlights the role of C9orf72 Dpr in autophagy dysfunction,but also provides novel insight that pharmacological intervention of autophagy using SW063058,a small molecule compound that can disrupt the interaction between BECN1 and BCl2,may reduce C9orf72 Dpr-induced neurotoxicity.

Novel Nd^(3+)/Yb^(3+)co-doped sodium calcium silicate glasses were prepared by melting quenching method:Spectroscopic study was carried out as a function of doping content by fixing sensitizer(Nd^(3+))concentration to 0.2 mol%and adjusting activator(Yb^(3+))from 0 to 1.0 mol%.The energy transfer(ET)mechanisms between Nd^(3+)and Yb^(3+)are discussed based on their energy levels and excitation powerdependence emission *** show that the presence of Yb^(2+)might be considered for the Nd^(3+)-free and co-doped *** ET was confirmed by the down-conversion NIR emission spectra of the doped and co-doped samples under excitation at 808 *** mechanisms observed seem to involve only one VIS absorbed photon for each NIR emitted via direct energy transfer between^(4)F_(3/2)of Nd^(2+)and^(2)F_(5/2)of Yb^(3+)compensated by phonon assistance due to energy gap between these *** efficiency of ET increases with the ytterbium content up to almost 90%for the sample with 1 mol%of Yb2O3,which was evaluated by lifetime ***-conversion photoluminescence by exciting trivalent ions of neodymium(808 nm)and ytterbium(975 nm)is *** observed up-converted emission bands are related to the 4f-4f transitions of Nd^(3+)and the spin-forbidden 5d-4f transition of Yb^(2+).Nd^(3+)upconversion emission is observed under 975 nm excitation,presenting an almost quadratic emission dependence with power excitation,which suggests that two laser photons participate in the up-conversion(UC)process,showing that ET occurs by a phonon-assisted energy transfer and cooperative energy transfer.
