In current report,the structural,magnetic,and thermoelectric properties of RE doped mgPm_(2)X_(4)(X=S,Se) spinels were *** energy difference in ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic states reveals the stability of mgPm_(2)(S/Se)_(4) in the ferromagnetic *** co mputation of enthalpy of formation also ascertains thermodynamic stability of crystal ***-dependent band structure and density of states analysis reveal ferromagnetic semiconducting character showing different electronic behavior in both spin *** room temperature ferromagnetism,spin polarization and Curie temperature are estimated from exchange energies *** addition,exchange constants(N_(0)α and N_(0)β),exchange energy Δ_(x)(pd),crystal ifeld energy,and double exchange mechanism were studied to explore the magnetic ***,the electrical conductivity,thermal conductivity,Seebeck co-efficient,and power factor show effect on electrons spin and their potential for thermoelectric devices.

Effect of salinity and acidity on bioleaching activity of mesophilic and extremely thermophilic bacteria

The effects of bacterial strain, salinity and pH on the bioleaching of a complex ore using mesophilic and extremely thermophilic bacteria were investigated and the statistical analysis of the results was performed using ERGUN’s test. The extreme thermophiles were shown to display superior kinetics of dissolution of zinc compared with the mesophiles as confirmed by the statistical analysis. Bioleaching performance of the extreme thermophiles is found to improve in response to the increase in acidity (pH from 2.0 to 1.0) whilst the activity of the mesophiles is adversely affected by decreasing pH. Statistical analysis of the bioleaching data indicates that the effect of pH is insignificant in the range of pH 1.0-1.2 for the extreme thermophiles and pH 1.4-2.0 for the mesophiles. Salinity is shown to have a suppressing effect on the mesophiles. However, the extreme thermophiles appear to be halophilic in character as they could operate efficiently under saline conditions (1%-4%Cl- (w/v)).

Colorectal carcinoma(CRC)is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide,and up to 50%of patients with CRC develop colorectal liver metastases(CRLm).For these patients,surgical resection remains the only opportunity for cure and long-term *** the past few decades,outcomes of patients with metastatic CRC have improved significantly due to advances in systemic therapy,as well as improvements in operative technique and perioperative *** in the modern era of oxaliplatin-and irinotecancontaining regimens has been augmented by the introduction of targeted biologics and immunotherapeutic *** increasing efficacy of contemporary systemic therapies has led to an expansion in the proportion of patients eligible for curative-intent ***,the use of neoadjuvant strategies is becoming progressively more *** patients with CRLm,the primary advantage of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NCT)is the potential to down-stage metastatic disease in order to facilitate hepatic *** the other hand,the routine use of NCT for patients with resectable metastases remains controversial,especially given the potential risk of inducing chemotherapy-associated liver injury prior to *** guidelines recommend upfront surgery in patients with initially resectable disease and low operative risk,reserving NCT for patients with borderline resectable or unresectable disease and high operative *** undergoing NCT require close monitoring for tumor response and conversion of CRLm to *** light of the growing number of treatment options available to patients with metastatic CRC,it is generally agreed that these patients are best served at tertiary centers with an expert multidisciplinary team.

memory access optimization for particle operations in computational fluid dynamics-discrete element method simulations

Computational Fluid Dynamics-Discrete Element method is used to model gas-solid systems in several applications in energy,pharmaceutical and petrochemical *** performance bot-tlenecks often limit the problem sizes that can be simulated at industrial *** data structures used to store several millions of particles in such large-scale simulations have a large memory footprint that does not fit into the processor cache hierarchies on current high-performance-computing platforms,leading to reduced computational *** paper specifically addresses this aspect of memory access bottlenecks in industrial scale *** use of space-flling curves to improve memory access patterns is described and their impact on computational performance is quantified in both shared and distributed memory parallelization *** morton space flling curve applied to uniform grids and k-dimensional tree partitions are used to reorder the particle data-structure thus improving spatial and temporal locality in *** performance impact of these techniques when applied to two benchmark problems,namely the homogeneous-cooling-system and a fluidized-bed,are *** optimization techniques lead to approximately two-fold performance improvement in particle focused operations such as neighbor-list creation and data-exchange,with~1.5 times overall improvement in a fluidization simulation with 1.27 million particles.

Iridoid glycosides from fruits reduce the growth of fungi associated with fruit rot

Aims Ripe,fleshy fruits generally function as rewards to attract mutualistic seed dispersers,but many fruits also contain high concentrations of toxic secondary *** compounds may serve a variety of adaptive roles in seed dispersal or as a defense against non-dispersing seed predators or *** tested the effects of iridoid glycosides from fruits of a hybrid bush honeysuckle,Lonicera×bella,on the growth of two pathogenic fungal strains associated with fruit rot,Alternaria tenuissima and Aspergillus *** Fungi were isolated from field-collected L.×bella fruits and identified using molecular *** growth rates were assessed in vitro in the presence of varying concentrations of pure loganin,one of the most abundant iridoid glycosides in fruits,as well as fruit extracts containing a mix of at least seven different iridoid *** FindingsLoganin had strong dose-dependent negative effects on the growth of both *** from fruits had no effect on Aspergillus but a strong antifungal effect on Alternaria that increased with fruit *** iridoid glycoside concentrations in extracts were not good predictors of variation in fungal growth,but several individual compounds had significant negative *** iridoid glycosides have primarily been studied as antiherbivore defenses in leaves,these results indicate that they can also function to reduce the growth of fungi associated with fruit rot.

A comparison of the ballistic behaviour of conventionally sintered and additively manufactured alumina

Production of ceramic armour solutions on-demand/in-theatre would have significant logistical and military ***,even assuming that such technologies could be successfully deployed in the field,such near net-shape manufacturing technology is relatively immature compared to conventional sintering of *** this study,the ballistic performance of a series of additively manufactured(Am)/rapidly-prototyped(RP)alumina tiles of 97.2%of the density of Sintox FATm were investigated using both forward-and reverse-ballistic *** experiments,undertaken with compressed gasguns,employed the depth-of-penetration technique and flash X-ray as primary diagnostics to interrogate both efficiency of penetration and projectile-target interaction,*** RP alumina was found to exhibit useful ballistic properties,successfully defeating steel-cored(AP)7.62×39 mm BXN rounds at velocities of up-to c.a.850 m/s,while exhibiting comparable failure modes to conventionally sintered armour-grade Sintox ***,where amaterial failure modes changed dramatically with performance dropping below that of conventionally sintered ***,the results from both sets of experiments were complimentary and clearly indicated the potential of such RP materials to play an active role in provision of real-world body armour solutions provided quality control of the RP material can be maintained.

Post-operative pancreatic fistula(POPF)is a common and dangerous complication of pancreatic resection,occurring in 5-30%of *** is a significant source of morbidity and mortality,leading to prolonged hospital stays and increased healthcare costs(1).The most widely accepted definition of POPF comes from the International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula(ISGPF).Initially created in 2005,this classification system for POPF was revised in 2016 such that POPF should be associated with a clinically relevant change in status,deeming what was originally defined as a Grade A fistula as a biochemical leak and grade B and C fistulas as clinically relevant(CR)fistulae(Table 1)(2).
