Therapeutic role of Ricinus communis L. and its bioactive compounds in disease prevention and treatment

Ricinus communis L.(R. communis), commonly known as castor oil plant, is used as a traditional natural remedy or folkloric herb for the control and treatment of a wide range of diseases around the globe. Various studies have revealed the presence of diverse phytochemicals such as ***, terpenes, saponins,phenolic compounds such as kaempferol, gallic acid, ricin, rutin, lupeol, ricinoleic acid, pinene, thujone and gentisic *** phytochemicals have been responsible for pharmacological and therapeutic effects,including anticancer, antimicrobial, insecticidal, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, antinociceptive,anti-inflammatory. bone regenerative, analgesic, and anticonvulsant activity. R. communis harbours phytochemicals which have been shown to target peroxisome proliferator activated receptor(PPAR), nuclear factor NF-κ-B, cytochrome p450, P38 mitogen-activated protein kinases kinase(p38 mAPK), tumor protein P53, B-cell lymphoma-extra-large(Bcl-xL) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2(VEGFR-2). Considering its wide variety of phytochemicals, its pharmacological activity and the subsequent clinical trials, R. communis could be a good candidate for discovering novel complementary drugs. Further experimental and advanced clinical studies are required to explore the pharmaceutical, beneficial therapeutic and safety prospects of R. communis with its phytochemicals as a herbal and complementary medicine for combating various diseases and disorders.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of hydroxysafflor yellow A(hSYA)on thioacetamide-induced liver ***:Thioacetamide was administered to rats intraperitoneally in doses of 200 mg/kg twice a week for 12 ***-intoxicated rats were given silymarin(50 mg/kg)or hSYA(5 mg/kg)orally every day for 8 *** enzymes,fibrosis markers,histological changes as well as immunohistochemistry of TNF-α,IL-6,p21,α-SmA,and caspase-3 were *** effect of hSYA on hSC-T6 activation/proliferation and apoptosis was also determined in ***:hSYA decreased liver enzymes,TNF-α,IL-6,and p21 expressions,hepatic PDGF-B,TImP-1,TGF-β1,and hydroxyproline levels,as well as fibrosis score(S2 vs.S4)compared to the thioacetamide *** also downregulatedα-SmA while increasing caspase-3 ***,at 500μg/mL,hSYA had only a slightly suppressive effect on hSC proliferation,with a 9.5%***,it significantly reduced TGF-β1,inhibitedα-SmA expression,induced caspase-3 expression,and promoted cell ***:hSYA may be a potential therapeutic agent for delaying and reversing the progression of liver *** research on hSYA at higher doses and for a longer period is warranted.

The possible source of uranium mineralization in felsic volcanic rocks,Eastern Desert,Egypt of the Arabian-Nubian Shield:Constraints from whole-rock geochemistry and spectrometric prospection

The present work deals with the detailed geology,mineralogy,geochemistry,and spectrometric prospection of the felsic volcanic rocks at the Eastern Desert,Egypt of the Arabian-Nubian *** volcanic rocks are an essential source for rare earth elements(REEs)and uranium occurrences in this *** are compositionally uniform with tholeiitic to calc-alkaline affinities,peraluminous and belong to the series of rhyolite with high-K *** exhibit more enrichment in high field strength elements(hFSE,***,Ta,Nd,Th,and U)and large-ion lithophile elements(LILE,*** and Rb)compared to the country rocks of the studied area,with REE ranging from 188.20 to 442.70 ppm and strong depletion in Ti,Sr,P with deep negative Eu *** felsic volcanic rocks were mostly generated from the partial melting of quartz-amphibolite facies accreted during the *** oddities of Zr-U-Th for the felsic volcanic rocks determine the involvement of crustal *** volcanic rocks are found in A-type suites of magma and represent highly fractionated rocks derived from rhyolitic magma,with insignificant interaction with continental crust in the low-pressure environment and during fractional *** volcanic rocks have higher values of radioactivity in which eU range from 0.5 to 121 ppm and eTh from 1.0 to 415.10 *** high values of eU and eTh can be ascribed to the mineralization of uranium and the presence of accessory minerals of radiogenic nature such as uranophane,uranothorite,zircon,and *** is considered as the mineral with most enriched uranium contents in the studied felsic volcanic rocks in which(UO2=87.30 wt%).Also,they are enriched with REE-bearing accessory minerals comprising allanite,titanite,and *** geological investigations of the felsic volcanic rocks in the studied areas are inappropriate to clear the feasible economic potentialities of rare earth elements and U occurrences;itemized and invaluable

Preparation and Characterization of Some Ferrites from CuO-ZnO-Fe_2O_3 mixtures

The ferrites of Cuo-ZnO-Fe2o3 solid solution series near the molar ratio of ZnxCu1-x were prepared by direct heating of their coprecipitated hydroxides using Nh4Oh as precipitating agent where x=0.0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8 and 1.0. Additional amounts of Cu and Zn sulphates were added to compensate the loss during the coprecipitation of the hydroxides. The ferritized samples were characterized by chemical analysis, XRD. DTA, TGA and SEm. XRD of both Zn0.2Cu0.8Fe2O4 and Zn0.5Cu0.5 Fe2O4 that indicates the formation of a heterogeneous ferrite material of ZnFe2O4 and CuFe2O4 mixed with variable amounts of α-Fe2O3. Zn and Cu ferrites were observed only in *** TGA-time relation, the activation energy of the different transformation phases were calculated. It is found that, the activation energy of ZnFe2O4 is slightly equal to 3/2 of that for CuFe2O4. Dielectric measurements show that the electrical behaviour depends on the ordering and disordering of the phases.

Rosmarinic acid attenuates hepatic fibrogenesis via suppression of hepatic stellate cell activation/proliferation and induction of apoptosis

Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic role of rosmarinic acid(RA),a natural polyphenolic compound,on hSCs activation/proliferation and apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. methods:The impact of RA on stellate cell line(hSC-T6) proliferation,activation and apoptosis was assessed along with its safety on primary hepatocytes. In vivo,rats were divided into:(i) normal;(ii) thioacetamide(TAA)-intoxicated rats for 12 weeks;(iii) TAA+silymarin or(iv) TAA+RA. At the end of experiment,liver functions,oxidative stress,inflammatory and profibrogenic markers,tissue inhibitor metalloproteinases type-1(TImP-1) and hydroxyproline(hP) levels were evaluated. Additionally,liver histopathology and immunohistochemical examinations of alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SmA),caspase-3 and proliferation cellular nuclear antigen(PCNA) were determined. Results:RA exhibited anti-proliferative effects on cultured hSCs in a time and concentration dependent manner showing an IC50 of 276 μg/mL and 171 μg/mL for 24 h and 48 h,respectively,with morphological reversion of activated stellate cell morphology to quiescent form. It significantly improved ALT,AST,oxidative stress markers and reduced TImP-1,hP levels,inflammatory markers and fibrosis score(S1 vs S4). Furthermore,reduction in α-SmA plus elevation in caspase-3 expressions of hSCs in vitro and in vivo associated with an inhibition in proliferation of damaged hepatocytes were recorded. Conclusions:RA impeded the progression of liver fibrosis through inhibition of hSCs activation/proliferation and induction of apoptosis with preservation of hepatic architecture.

AC-electronic and dielectric properties of semiconducting phthalocyanine compounds: a comparative study

The AC-electronic and dielectric properties of different phthalocyanine films （ZnPc, CuPc, FePc, and h2Pc） were investigated over a wide range of temperature. Both real and imaginary parts of the dielectric constant （ε = ε1 - ε2） were found to be influenced by temperature and frequency. Qualitatively the behavior was the same for those compounds; however, the central atom, film thickness, and the electrode type play an important role in the variation of their values. The relaxation time, r, was strongly frequency-dependent at all temperatures and low frequencies, while a weak dependency is observed at higher frequencies. The relaxation activation energy was derived from the slopes of the fitted lines of In r and the reciprocal of the temperature （l/T）. The values of the activation energy were accounted for the hopping process at low temperatures, while a thermally activated conduction process was dominant at higher temperatures. The maximum barrier height, Wm, was found to be temperature and frequency dependent for all phthalocyanine compounds. The value Wm depends greatly on the nature of the central atom and electrode material type. The correlated barrier hopping model was found to be the appropriate mechanism to describe the charge carrier＇s transport in phthalocyanine films.

Dielectric response and electric properties of organic semiconducting phthalocyanine thin films

The dielectric function of some phthalocyanine compounds （ZnPc, h2Pc, CuPc, and FePc） were investigated by analyzing the measured capacitance and loss tangent data. The real part of the dielectric constant, ca, varies strongly with frequency and temperature. The frequency dependence was expressed as： ε1 = Aε^n, where the index, n, assumes negative values （n 〈 0）. In addition, the imaginary part of the dielectric constant, ε2, is also frequency and temperature dependent. Data analysis confirmed that ε2 = Bo）m with values of m less than zero. At low frequencies and all temperatures, a strong dependence is observed, while at higher frequencies, a moderate dependence is obvious especially for the Au-electrode sample. Qualitatively, the type of electrode material had little effect on the behavior of the dielectric constant but did affect its value. Analysis of the AC conductivity dependence on frequency at different temperatures indicated that the correlated barrier hopping （CBh） model is the most suitable mechanism for the AC conduction behavior. maximum barrier height, W, has been estimated for ZnPc with different electrode materials （Au and AI）, and had values between 0.10 and 0.9 eV. For both electrode types, the maximum barrier height has strong frequency dependence at high frequency and low temperatures. The relaxation time, r, for ZnPc and FePc films increases with decreasing frequency. The activation energy was derived from the slopes of r versus 1/T curves. At low temperatures, an activation energy value of about 0.01 eV and 0.04 eV was estimated for ZnPc and FePc, respectively. The low values of activation energy suggest that the hopping of charge carriers between localized states is the dominant mechanism.

Feasibility of developing composite action between concrete and cold-formed steel beam

Cold-formed steel structures are steel structure products constructed from sheets or coils using cold rolling, press brake or bending brake method. These structures are extensively employed in building construction industry due to their light mass, ductility by economic cold forming operations, favorable strength-to-mass ratio and other factors. The utilization of cold formed steel sections with concrete as composite can hugely reduce the construction cost. however, the use of cold formed steel members in composite concrete beams has been very limited. A comprehensive review of developments in composite beam with cold formed steel sections was introduced. It was revealed that employing cold-formed steel channel section to replace reinforcement bars in conventional reinforced concrete beam results in a significant cost reduction without reducing strength capacity. The use of composite beam consisting of cold-formed steel open or close box and filled concrete could also reduce construction cost. Lighter composite girder for bridges with cold-formed steel of U section was introduced. moreover, types of shear connectors to provide composite action between cold-formed steel beam and concrete slab were presented. however, further studies to investigate the effects of metal decking on the behavior of composite beam with cold-formed steel section and introduction of ductile shear connectors were recommended.

microwave-assisted synthesis of new 2-arylpyrimido[4′,5′：4,5]thiazolo[3,2-α]benzimidazol-4（3h）-ones from 3-aminothia- zolo[3,2-α]benzimidazol-2-earboxamide and aroyl halides in solvent-free condition is described. In comparison with classical conditions the reactions are faster and the yields are higher under microwave irradiation.
