Effect of Applied Current Density on morphological and Structural Properties of Electrodeposited Fe-Cu Films

A detailed study has been carried out to investigate the effect of applied current density on the composition, crystallographic structure, grain size, and surface morphology of Fe-Cu films. X-ray diffraction （XRD） results show that the films consist of a mixture of face-centered cubic （fcc） Cu and body centered cubic （bcc） ^-Fe phases. The average crystalline size of both Fe and Cu particles decreases as the applied current density becomes more negative. Compositional analysis of Fe-Cu films indicates that the Fe content within the films increases with decreasing current density towards more negative values. Scanning electron microscopy （SEm） and atomic force microscopy （AFm） have been used to investigate the surface morphology of Fe-Cu films. It is observed that the surface morphology of the films changes from dendritic structure to a cauliflower structure as the applied current density becomes more negative. The surface roughness and grain size of the Fe-Cu films decrease with decreasing applied current density towards more negative values.

Early detection of response to imatinib therapy for gastrointestinal stromal tumor by using 18F-FDG-positron emission tomography and computed tomography imaging

A 41-year old female with metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor was referred to 18F-FDG-positron emission tomography and computed tomography （PET/CT） scan before and after one-month treatment with imatinib （Glivec, Gleevec, Novartis, Basel, Switzerland）, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor （400 mg/d）. metabolic response was evaluated before and after one month of therapy. The decrease of the maximum standardised uptake value （SUV） was 79% （from 9.8 to 2.1）. Positron emission tomography demonstrated complete metabolic response after one-month of imatinib treatment. Additionally, the previous lesion was compared with the coronal computerized tomographic image. There was no difference in the size of the tumor before and after therapy according to CT images. However, metabolic activity was inhibited. 18F-FDG-PEr is a valuable method for the detection of response to one-month imatinib treatment in patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Effect of sunitinib on metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumor in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1: A case report

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor （GIST） represents the most common mesenchymal malignancy of the gastrointestinal （GI） tract. In neurofibromatosis （NF）, the increased incidence of tumor needs to be considered even in non-symptomatic individuals. Patients with neurofibromatosis NF type 1 have an increased risk of developing GI tumors including rare types such as GIST. We report a case of GIST in a 53-year-old male patient with neurofibromatosis. The patient was diagnosed with NF four years ago and his medical history revealed that he was hospitalized 5 times with a provisional diagnosis of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding. GIST was diagnosed at explorative laparotomy and the tumor was 21 cm × 13 cm × 7 cm in size. Immunohistochemical examination showed that vimentin, actin and CDl17 were positive. Computerized tomography showed peritoneal implants three months later. Imatinib mesylate （600 mg/d） was initiated. However, control computerized tomography revealed liver and omental metastasis. The dosage was elevated to 800 mg/d. Despite high dosage, the progression of the metastatic lesions continued in the liver and omentum. The patient started oral sunitinib malate （Sutent~ Pfizer Inc, New York, NY, USA） 50 mg per day for 4 consecutive weeks, followed by 2 wk off per treatment cycle. The metastatic lesions in the liver and omentum were decreased in size after four courses, suggesting that sunitinib is also an effective treatment modality for metastatic GIST in NF patients.

Objective:To identify the clinical characteristics and outcomes of hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infection during the vaccination period nationwide in ***:COVID-19 patients followed in the pandemic services across Turkey between January 1,2021,and march 31,2022 were investigated *** COVID-19 was defined as a patient neither diagnosed with COVID-19 nor suspected COVID-19 at the hospital admission and was confirmed COVID-19≥5 days after hospital *** primary outcome of this study was in-hospital mortality;demographic features and vaccination status was compared between survivors and ***:During the study period,15573 COVID-19 patients were followed in 18 centers and 543(3.5%)patients were nosocomial *** patients with nosocomial COVID-19(80.4%)were transferred from medical wards.162(29.8%)of the patients with nosocomial COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit due to disease severity and 138(25.4%)of the patients died during hospital *** age(≥65 years)and number of comorbid diseases(≥2)was found to be associated with mortality in nosocomial COVID-19(OR 1.74,95%CI 1.11-2.74 and OR 1.60,95%CI 1.02-2.56,respectively).Vaccination was associated with survival in nosocomial COVID-19(OR 0.25,95%CI 0.16-0.38).Conclusions:Patients with nosocomial COVID-19 had increased admission to intensive care units and higher mortality *** can decrease the in-hospital mortality rate.
