Focal mechanics and disaster characteristics of the 2024 m 7.6 Noto Peninsula Earthquake,Japan

On January 1,2024,a devastating m 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula,Ishikawa Prefecture,Japan,resulting in significant casualties and property *** information from the first six days after the earthquake,this article analyzes the seismic source characteristics,disaster situation,and emergency response of this *** results show:1)The earthquake rupture was of the thrust type,with aftershock distribution showing a north-east-oriented belt-like feature of 150 km.2)Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS)and Interferometric synthetic aperture radar(InSAR),observations detected significant westward to north-westward co-seismic displacement near the epicenter,with the maximum horizontal displacement reaching 1.2 m and the vertical uplift displacement reaching 4 m.A two-segment fault inversion model fits the observational data well.3)Near the epicenter,large Peak Ground Velocity(PGV)and Peak Ground Acceleration(PGA)were observed,with the maxima reaching 145 cm/s and 2681 gal,respectively,and the intensity reached the highest level 7 on the Japanese(Japan meteorological Agency,JmA)intensity standard,which is higher than level 10 of the United States Geological Survey(USGS)modified mercalli Intensity(mmI)standard.4)The observation of the very rare multiple strong pulse-like ground motion(PLGm)waveform poses a topic worthy of research in the field of earthquake engineering.5)As of January 7,the earthquake had left 128 deaths and 560 injuries in Ishikawa Prefecture,with 1305 buildings completely or partially destroyed,and had triggered a chain of disasters including tsunamis,fires,slope failures,and road ***,this paper summarizes the emergency rescue,information dissemination,and other disaster response and management measures taken in response to this *** work provides a reference case for carrying out effective responses,and offers lessons for handling similar events in the future.

Response mechanism of soil microorganisms to simulated precipitation in the source wetland of qinghai Lake

Background Changes in precipitation patterns crucially impact soil microbial communities, and the ecosystem in qinghai-Tibet Plateau(QTP) is highly vulnerable to climate change. However, we do not fully understand how soil microbial communities in the source wetlands of QTP respond to changes in precipitation. In this study, we employed advanced techniques such as high-throughput sequencing and metabolomics to investigate how soil microbial communities in a source wetland of qinghai Lake respond to changes in precipitation after quadrennial precipitation *** Our findings showed that the predominant microbiota in the source wetland was Proteobacteria. Interestingly, alterations in precipitation levels, whether increased or reduced, did not significantly impact the diversity or functional groups of the microbial community. However, the structure of the microbial community did respond notably to changes in precipitation, leading to shifts in the relative abundance of Spirochaetes and Treponema. A notable finding was that reduced precipitation levels(– 25% and-50%) and mild increases in precipitation(25%) within the region contributed to increased soil carbon content. However, this effect ceased to manifest when precipitation increased by 50%. Additionally, the reduction in precipitation prompted the release of soil metabolites like syringic acid and aldosterone, while enhanced precipitation resulted in a decrease in aldosterone *** Precipitation changes altered the relative abundance of soil microbial communities and metabolites, which was conducive to increasing carbon storage in this alpine wetland.

Phosphor-converted near-infrared light-emitting diodes(NIR pc-LEDs) are finding applications in various fields including food quality analysis,biomedical imaging,night vision,and *** crucial factor in the development of NIR pc-LEDs devices lies in the advancement of high-performance broadband NIR phosphors,In this work,novel Cr^(3+)-activated silicate phosphors NaRESi_(3)O_(9)(RE=y,Lu,Sc) are *** silicate has a special 3D network structure in which RE has four different sites,forming four octahedrons and providing suitable occupation sites for Cr^(3+).The phosphors demonstrate a wide emission spectrum ranging from 750 to 1450 nm when excited by light at 468 *** full width at half maximum(FWHm),which benefits from the presence of Cr^(3+)ions occupying multiple sites,is measured to be 203 ***,the strongest emission peak is observed at a longer wavelength of 984 nm compared to most other systems activated by Cr^(3+).The Na_(3)ScSi_(3)O_(9) lattice provides a weak crystal field(Dq/B=1.97) and weak phonon-photon coupling for Cr^(3+),and the integrated emission intensity of Na_(3)ScSi_(3)O_(9):0,03Cr^(3+)is 4.66 times stronger than that of Na_(3)ySi_(3)O_(9):0.03Cr^(3+).

Five perovskite ceramics samples of Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) with x=0.00,0.05,0.10,0.15,and 0.20 were synthesized using the conventional solid-state reaction *** prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transforms infrared(FTIR),and UV-Vis *** shielding properties against ionizing radiation were also *** XRD analysis shows the perovskite cubic structure as the major phase in all *** FTIR reveals a distinctive band around 614-620 cm^(-1) ascribed to the antisymmetric O-Sn-O ***-Vis spectroscopy was used to determine the bandgap according to diffuse reflectance,and the results display a fixed enhancement in the bandgap from 3.2 to 3.3 eV for all ***-ray shielding properties of the synthesized samples were experimentally measured and compared with XCOm computational *** relative differences(Δ,%)between experimental and theo retical values are low and fall within the 0.446%-7.10%*** addition of Er leads to the enhanced density,neutron,and gamma shielding *** contrast,charged particles’shielding parameters gradually reduce with rising Er *** results suggest that Ba_(1-x)Er_(x)SnO_(3) samples can be used in different radiation shielding applications.

Smog chambers provide a potent approach to explore the secondary organic aerosol formation under varied *** study describes the construction and characterization of a new smog chamber facility for studying the formation mechanisms of gas-phase products and secondary organic aerosol from the photooxidation of volatile organic *** chamber is a 5.4 m^(3) Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene(FEP)Teflon reactor with the potential to perform photooxidation experiments at controlled temperature and relative *** characterizations were conducted for evaluation of stability of environmental parameters,mixing time,background contamination,light intensity,and wall losses of gases and *** photolysis rate of NO_(2)(J_(NO2))ranged from(1.02-3.32)×10^(-3)sec^(-1),comparable to the average J_(NO2)in ambient *** wall loss rates for NO,NO_(2),and O_(3)were 0.47×10^(-4),0.37×10^(-4),and 1.17×10^(-4)min^(-1),while wall loss of toluene was obsoletely found in a 6 hr *** particle number wall loss rates are(0.01-2.46)×10^(-3)min^(-1)for 40-350 nm with an average lifetime of more than one day.A series of toluene photooxidation experiments were carried out in absence of NO_xunder dry *** results of the simulation experiments demonstrated that the chamber is well designed to simulate photolysis progress in the atmosphere.

Layered rare-earth hydroxides(LREHs) draw wide research interest because of their peculiar crystal structure,rich interlayer chemistry and abundant functionality of the RE element,but are limited to the two categories of RE_(2)(OH)_(5)A·nH_(2)O(A:typical of Cl^(-)or NO_(3)^(-)) and RE_(2)(OH)_(4)SO_(4)·nH_(2)*** the other hand,rare-earth oxysulfates(RE_(2)O_(2)SO_(4)) have attracted attention due to their properties of large-capacity oxygen storage,low-temperature magnetism and luminescence,but their preparation procedure mostly involves toxic SO_(x) gases and/or complicated *** this work,RE_(2)(OH)_(2)CO_(3)SO_(4)·nH_(2)O as a new family of LREHs(RE=Gd-Lu lanthanides and y) were produced via hydrothermal reaction,from which phase-pure RE_(2)O_(2)SO_(4) was derived via subsequent annealing at 800℃ in air without the involvement of SO_(x),The compounds were thoroughly characterized to reveal the intrinsic influence of lanthanide contraction(RE^(3+) radius) on crystal structure,thermal behavior(dehydroxylation/decarbonation/desulfurization),vibrational property and crystallite *** analyzing the photoluminescence of Eu^(3+) and Sm^(3+)in the Gd_(2)O_(2)SO_(4) typical host it is found that the 617 nm(Eu^(3+),λ_(ex)=275 nm) and 608 nm(Sm^(3+),λ_(ex)=407 nm) main emissions can retain as high as ^(7)9.6% and 85.5%of their room-temperature intensities at 423 K,with activation energies of ~0.19 and 0.21 eV for thermal quenching,*** also indicates that both the phosphors have the potential for optical temperature sensing via the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR) technology,whose maximum relative sensitivity reaches -2.70%/K for Eu^(3+)and 1.73%/K for Sm^(3+) at 298 K.

Crystal structures of RNA-dependent RNA polymerases from Jingmen tick virus and Alongshan virus

Jingmenviruses are a group of flavi-like viruses with segmented genome and have been found in various types of hosts,including humans,cattle,monkeys,bats,rodents,sheep,ticks,mosquitoes and ***,including the Jingmen tick virus(JmTV)and Alongshan virus(ALSV),have been associated with febrile illness and flu-like symptoms in *** polymerase plays critical roles in genome replication and transcription and is an ideal target for antiviral ***,we determined the crystal structures of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase(RdRp)domains of JmTV and ALSV at 2.6Åand 3.2Åresolutions,*** overall structures of JmTV and ALSV RdRp domains are similar to those from the typical unsegmented viruses in Flaviviridae family,especially the Flavivirus *** and ALSV RdRps can be divided into three subdomains and the catalytical motif A-G are conserved like the typical flaviviruses,whereas the zinc-binding pockets are absent from the JmTV and ALSV *** 50-ends of jingmenvirus genomes are varied in length and sequence,and a highly conserved 8-nucleotide element located on the tip of stem loop A was identified and shown to be required for binding with RdRp and performing de novo replication *** findings provide important structural insights into RdRp of segmented flavivirus and reveal the key region of virus genome responsible for replication initiation,which would promote molecular understanding of segmented flavivirus replication and the structure-based design of antiviral drugs against flaviviruses.
