In order to investigate the coolability of a tight lattice core in BWR （boiling water reactors）, an experiment of CHF （critical heat flux） was conducted using a single heater pin flow channel with and without a wire spacer with the mass flux ranged from 200 kg/（m2.s） to 600 kg/（m2·s）, the inlet temperature from 50 ℃ to 90 ℃ at the pressure of 0.1 mPa. The results of CHF values were compared between two different types of heater pin with and without the wire spacer. The heat removability of flow channel was improved by the wire spacer in comparison with the heater pin flow channel without the wire spacer. The CHF value was higher in the heater pin channel with the wire spacer than in that without the wire spacer.

Electroconductive hydrogels has been extensively studied in drug delivery systems because they combine the properties of hydogels with the conducting polymers in only one material. In this work, pyrrole was polymerized electrochemically into poly(acrylic acid) hydrogel. This material kept the swelling properties that are characteristic of hydrogels and the electroactivity of the conducting polymers. The hydrogel (with and without the conducting polymer) swelling degree depends on both the ionic strength and pH. As this material is responsive to changes in the electrical potential, pH and ionic strength, the safranin release presented different delivery profiles, in accordance to variations and combinations of these stimuli. The most interesting result was the achievement of the linear safranin release indicating a zero-order kinetics.

Catalyst-free growth of one-dimensional zinc oxide （ZnO） nanowires is reported. ZnO nanowires were synthesized on ZnO buffer layers deposited on various-oriented sapphire substrates. Syntheses of ZnO buffer layers and nanowires were performed by ultraviolet pulsed-laser deposition. ZnO nanowire＇s number density was the lowest in the case of using m-cut sapphire substrates. ZnO nanowires grown on a-cut sapphire substrates had vertical alignment with distances of tens to hundreds of nanometers. On the other hand, ZnO nanowires grown on c-cut sapphire substrates had the biggest nucleation rate. The dependence of crystalline orientation of ZnO buffer layers on the orientation of sapphire substrates were investigated by electron back scatter diffraction measurement. From their results, the growth models of ZnO buffer layers were suggested and the variations in morphological properties ofZnO nanowires were discussed.

鲜水河断裂带是位于青藏高原东侧的大型走滑断裂,地震活动性高,其炉霍—道孚段是少数观测到蠕滑现象的段落之一,但目前尚缺乏高分辨率大地测量数据的约束研究.本文综合利用InSAR和GPS观测数据研究炉霍—道孚段的运动特征,提出一种适用于研究震间形变的InSAR和GPS数据融合方法,将InSAR速度场和GPS插值速度场转换至平行断层方向,利用抽样统计方法去除GPS参考框架影响,在数据融合过程中,注重保留远场构造运动特征和近场高分辨率形变信息.建立包括浅层蠕滑、中间闭锁单元和深部滑动的断层运动模型,以融合的形变速度场为约束,利用马尔可夫链蒙特卡罗方法反演炉霍—道孚段断层滑动速率、浅层蠕滑特征和闭锁状态.InSAR速度场剖面分析结果表明:炉霍—道孚段地表蠕滑特征明显,沿走向方向存在差异,炉霍段蠕滑速率明显低于道孚段,表现出从北西至南东速率逐渐增大、减小、再次增大的变化特征,断层左旋蠕滑速率在1.0~5.2 mm·a^(-1)之间;断层运动模型反演结果表明,炉霍—道孚段蠕滑深度为~9.8 km,浅层蠕滑速率为3.27~4.18 mm·a^(-1),断层深部滑动速率为8.12~9.30 mm·a^(-1).炉霍段地震复发周期为370~410年,闭锁层厚度~1 km,地震危险性较低.道孚段地震复发周期为59~65年,存在厚度~7.5 km的闭锁区,可积累足够的应变,浅层蠕滑释放的能量为~1.32×10^(16) Nm·a^(-1),占构造运动加载积累能量的23%~38%,1981年道孚6.9级地震以来,闭锁区近40年积累的地震矩达到3.62×10^(17)至7.88×10^(17) Nm,相当于一次m_(W)5.6~m_(W)5.9地震的能量,其地震危险性值得关注.

This study examines the difference of the center of gravity (CG) velocity during sit-to-stand (STS) movement between the elderly with and without fall experience. Fifteen elderly without fall experience (age: 75.7 ± 4.8 yr), with one fall experience (age: 75.7 ± 5.0 yr), and two or more fall experiences (age: 75.7 ± 4.8 yr) participated in the measurement of 10m maximal walking speed, functional reach, one-legged standing duration with vision, maximal isometric knee extension, hip flexion, ankle extension and toe flexion muscle strengths, fall risk assessment and ADL questionnaire, and CG velocity during STS movement. No significant differences were found in muscle strength, walking and balance tests (F 0.078). The group with two or more fall experiences was significantly higher than the other groups in the fall risk assessment, and lower than the group without fall experience in ADL (F = 8.5 and 6.1, p = 0.001 and 0.005). meanwhile, significant differences were found in the maximal and mean CG velocity during STS movement among all groups. The group without fall experience was the greatest, and the group with fall experience was less than half (F = 9.0 and 11.1, p = 0.001

Cilostazol Enhances Oxidative Glucose metabolism in Both Neurons and Astroglia without Increasing Ros Production

Cilostazol, a potent inhibitor of type 3 phosphodiesterase (PDE3), has recently been reported to exert neuroprotective effects during acute cerebral ischemic injury. These effects are, at least in part, mediated by the inhibition of oxidative cell death. However, the effects of cilostazol on glucose metabolism in brain cells have not been determined. In the present study, we examined the effects of cilostazol on the oxidative metabolism of glucose and the resultant formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cultured neurons and astroglia. Cultures of neurons or astroglia were prepared from Sprague-Dawley rats. The cells were treated with cilostazol (0 – 30 μm) for 48 hours prior to the assay. L-[U-14C]lactate ([14C]lactate) or [1-14C]pyruvate ([14C]pyruvate) oxidation was measured. ROS production was determined using an H2DCFDA assay with a microplate reader. Forty-eight hours of exposure to cilostazol resulted in dose-dependent increases in [14C]lactate and [14C]pyruvate oxidation in both the neurons and astroglia. Dibutyryl cyclic AmP (0 – 0.5 mm) also increased [14C]lactate oxidation, indicating cAmP-mediated PDH activation. In contrast, free radical formation was not affected by cilostazol in either the neurons or astroglia. Cilostazol enhanced the oxidative metabolism of glucose in both neurons and astroglia, while it did not augment ROS production.

To determine the predictive factors and impact of body weight loss on postgastrectomy quality of life (QOL). mETHODSWe applied the newly developed integrated questionnaire postgastrectomy syndrome assessment scale-45, which consists of 45 items including those from the Short Form-8 and Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale instruments, in addition to 22 newly selected items. Between July 2009 and December 2010, completed questionnaires were received from 2520 patients with curative resection at 1 year or more after having undergone one of six types of gastrectomy for Stage I gastric cancer at one of 52 participating institutions. Of those, we analyzed 1777 eligible questionnaires from patients who underwent total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y procedure (TGRY) or distal gastrectomy with Billroth-I (DGBI) or Roux-en-Y (DGRY) procedures. RESULTSA total of 393, 475 and 909 patients underwent TGRY, DGRY, and DGBI, respectively. The mean age of patients was 62.1 ± 9.2 years. The mean time interval between surgery and retrieval of the questionnaires was 37.0 ± 26.8 mo. On multiple regression analysis, higher preoperative body mass index, total gastrectomy, and female sex, in that order, were independent predictors of greater body weight loss after gastrectomy. There was a significant difference in the degree of weight loss (P mong groups stratified according to preoperative body mass index ( 25 kg/m2). multiple linear regression analysis identified lower postoperative body mass index, rather than greater body weight loss postoperatively, as a certain factor for worse QOL (P my, but the influence of both such factors on QOL was relatively small (R2, 0.028-0.080). CONCLUSIONWhile it is certainly important to maintain adequate body weight after gastrectomy, the impact of body weight loss on QOL is unexpectedly small.

Clean and Safe Supply of Fish and Shellfish to Clear the HACCP Regulation by Use of Clean and Cold Deep Ocean Water in Rausu,Hokkaido,Japan

For the supply of fish and shellfish to consumers in fresh condition, clean handling after catch from the sea is essential. According to HACCP （Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points）, it is important to meet such requirement by keeping fish and shellfish under a certain low temperature and clean conditions after catching. The deep ocean water （DOW） characterized by low temperature and cleanliness has been chosen for fish and shellfish handlings, particularly for salmon, cod, and sea urchin in Town ＇Rausu＇ in Hokkaido, Japan. DOW below 2.9℃ of an amount of nearly 5 000 m^3 is planned to be pumped up every day from a depth of about 350 m, and temporarily stored in a large simulated tank on land. DOW is then supplied to fish boats through hydrants distributed throughout the harbor and used for keeping salmon in clean and cold conditions. Ice made from DOW is also used for lowering temperature if necessary. DOW and ice made from DOW are also used during the transportation of fish and shellfish. The entire system is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2005.
