BAcKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)is an aggressive malignant neoplasm that requires liver transplantation(Lt).Despite patients with Hcc being prioritized by most organ allocation systems worldwide,they still have to wait for long *** therapies(LRts)are employed as bridging therapies in patients with Hcc awaiting *** largely used in the past,transarterial embolization(tAE)has been replaced by transarterial chemoembolization(tAcE).However,the superiority of tAcE over tAE has not been consistently shown in the *** to compare the outcomes of tAcE and tAE in patients with Hcc awaiting *** All consecutive patients with Hcc awaiting Lt between 2011 and 2020 at a single center were *** patients underwent LRt with either tAcE or *** patients also underwent percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI),concom-itantly or in different treatment *** choice of LRt for each Hcc nodule was determined by a multidisciplinary *** primary outcome was waitlist dropout due to tumor progression,and the secondary outcome was the occurrence of adverse *** the subset of patients who underwent Lt,complete pathological response and post-transplant recurrence-free survival were also *** twelve(18.5%)patients in the tAcE group(only tAcE and tAcE+PEI;n=65)and 3(7.9%)patients in the tAE group(only tAE and tAE+PEI;n=38)dropped out of the waitlist due to tumor progression(P log-rank test=0.29).Adverse events occurred in 8(12.3%)and 2(5.3%)patients in the tAcE and tAE groups,respectively(P=0.316).Forty-eight(73.8%)of the 65 patients in the tAcE group and 29(76.3%)of the 38 patients in the tAE group underwent Lt(P=0.818).Among these patients,complete pathological response was detected in 7(14.6%)and 9(31%)patients in the tAcE and tAE groups,respectively(P=0.145).Post-Lt,Hcc recurred in 9(18.8%)and 4(13.8%)patients in the tAcE and tAE groups,respectively(P=0.756).Posttransplant recurrence-free survival was simila

Production of Artificial Fog in the PAVIN Fog and Rain Platform: In Search of Big Droplets Fog

In fog, visibility is reduced. this reduction in visibility is measured by the meteorological optical range (mOR), which is important for studying human perception and various sensors in foggy conditions. the cerema PAVIN Fog & Rain platform is capable of producing calibrated fog in order to better analyses it and understand its consequences. the problem is that the droplets produced by the platform are not large enough to resemble real fog. this can have a major impact on measurements since the interaction between electromagnetic waves and fog depends on the wavelength and diameter of the droplets. to remedy this, cerema is building a new platform with new equipment capable of generating fog. this study analyses different nozzles and associated usage parameters such as the type of water used and the pressure used. the aim is to select the best nozzle with the associated parameters for producing large-diameter droplets and therefore more realistic fog.

Effect of drug therapies on self-reported chemosensory outcomes after cOVID-19

Objective:the aim of this study was to assess the relative efficacy of medications used following severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-coV-2)infection on self-reported alterations in taste and/or smell ***:Seven hundred and fourteen persons with self-reported postcoronavirus disease 2019(post-cOVID-19)chemosensory disorders were personally interviewed regarding specific medications they were administered following the acute phase of the *** dependent measure—self-reported total recovery of chemosensory symptoms—was subjected to stepwise logistic *** predictors included demographic and clinical variables,in addition to specific medications used to mitigate disease symptoms(i.e.,systemic corticosteroids,oseltamivir,vitamin c,ibuprofen,hydroxychloroquine,azithromycin,ivermectin,nitazoxanide,anticoagulants,and zinc).Results:the median time between cOVID-19 symptom onset and the interviews was 81 days(interquartile range:60-104).Of the 714 subjects,249(34.9%)reported total recovery of their chemosensory function;437(61.2%)had at least one treatment since the beginning of the *** and those with more comorbidities had undergone more *** recovery rates of the treated and nontreated groups did not differ ***,respondents who had used nitazoxanide tended to have a higher rate of self-reported taste or smell *** who took oral zinc were less likely to ***:No medication employed during the first months after SARS-coV-2 infection had a clear positive effect on returning self-reported smell or taste function to normal,although nitrazoxide trended in a positive *** zinc had a negative effect on the reported recovery of these senses.

Effect of turbidity on Semi-Automatic Analysis of copepod Size and Abundance Distribution in the Water column

Automated image systems to characterize aquatic organisms improve research and enable fast response to environmental risk situations. In November 2015, a dam in mariana city-mG (Brazil) collapsed and led to the disposal of mud tailings from the mining process to the Doce River. the accident resulted in several casualties and incalculable damage to surrounding communities and the environment. the mud increased water turbidity, an essential condition to the functioning of the image analysis systems, and directly affected the characterization of the organisms, making it impossible to distinguish copepods in the mud, due to the blurred outline. to get a quick response evaluating environmental situations, this work aimed to develop and test different algorithms characterizing and classifying copepods by their size (length and area) using in situ images acquired by the Lightframe On-Sight Keyspecies Investigation device. Field tests were carried out under different turbidity levels throughout the gradient observed in the coastal zone adjacent to the Doce River. the best algorithm reduced nearly 50% of the noise in some images when compared with manual treatment and led to 96% accuracy in measurement and counting. Semi-automated devices that perform post-processing corrections are suitable for fast environmental evaluation under high turbidity scenarios.

ProtSA: A testing Process for Automotive Software Domain

this study evaluates the development of a testing process for the automotive software domain, highlighting challenges stemming from the absence of adequate processes. the research demonstrates the application of Design Science Research methodology in developing, an automotive software testing process—ProtSA, using six functional testing modules. Additionally, the study evaluates the benefits of implementing ProtSA in a specific Original Equipment manufacturer (OEm) using an experimental single-case approach with industry professionals’ participation through a survey. the study concludes that combining testing techniques with effective communication and alignment is crucial for enhancing software quality. Furthermore, survey data indicates that implementing ProtSA leads to productivity gains by initiating tests early, resulting in time savings in the testing program and increased productivity for the testing team. Future work will explore implementing ProtSA in cybersecurity, over-the-air software updates, and autonomous vehicle testing processes. .

Evolutionary fingerprint, phylogenetic and forest structure of tropical montane Atlantic cloud forests along an elevation gradient

Environmental conditions can change markedly over geographical distances along elevation gradients,making them natural laboratories to study the processes that structure *** work aimed to assess the influences of elevation on tropical montane cloud Forest plant communities in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest,a historically neglected *** evaluated the phylogenetic structure,forest structure(tree basal area and tree density)and species richness along an elevation gradient,as well as the evolutionary fingerprints of elevation-success on phylogenetic lineages from the tree *** do so,we assessed nine communities along an elevation gradient from 1210 to 2310 m *** large elevation *** relationships between elevation and phylogenetic structure,forest structure and species richness were investigated through Linear *** occurrence of evolutionary fingerprint on phylogenetic lineages was investigated by quantifying the extent of phylogenetic signal of elevation-success using a genus-level molecular *** results showed decreased species richness at higher elevations and independence between forest structure,phylogenetic structure and *** also verified that there is a phylogenetic signal associated with elevation-success by *** concluded that the elevation is associated with species richness and the occurrence of phylogenetic lineages in the tree communities evaluated in mantiqueira *** the other hand,elevation is not associated with forest structure or phylogenetic ***,closely related taxa tend to have their higher ecological success in similar ***,we highlight the fragility of the tropical montane cloud forests in the mantiqueira Range in face of environmental changes(*** warming)due to the occurrence of exclusive phylogenetic lineages evolutionarily adapted to environmental conditions(*** temperature)associated with each elevation range.

Needle knife fstulotomy in flat and diverticular papillae:Is it time for redemption?

Background: European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy( ESGE) recommends needle-knife fstulotomy(NKF) as the preferred precut technique in cases when standard cannulation techniques fail. Despite scarce scientifc evidence, flat and diverticular papillae are thought not to be ideal for NKF, as they are associated with poor outcomes. the present study aimed to determine the outcomes of the use of NKF in relation to flat and intradiverticular papillae. methods: this prospective multicenter study enrolled consecutive patients, evidencing na?ve flat(group A, n = 49) or diverticular papilla(group B, n = 28), who underwent NKF after failure of standard cannulation techniques. Diverticular morphology was subdivided into intradiverticular(group B1, n = 14) and diverticular border papillae(group B2, n = 14), using a previously validated endoscopic classifcation of the major papilla. the success of biliary cannulation at initial endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERcP), overall biliary cannulation, overall cannulation time, and the rate of adverse events were assessed in the study. Results: the initial cannulation rates were 93.9%, 64.3% and 71.4% for group A, B1, and B2, respectively( P = 0.005);overall cannulation rates after a second ERcP were 98.0%, 92.9% and 85.7%, respectively( P = 0.134). Adverse events occurred in 11.7% of patients, with post-ERcP pancreatitis(PEP) being the most common adverse event(10.4%). Although there was a trend towards a higher incidence of PEP in flat papillae, univariate and multivariate analyses did not show any signifcant relationship between pancreatitis and trainee involvement, papillary morphology, nor overall cannulation time. conclusions: Although flat papillae are associated with high success rates of biliary cannulation using NKF, the rate of PEP is not negligible. NKF is feasible in diverticular papillae, but it is associated with a modest success rate in the initial ERcP.

Analysis on the Impact of cattle Fattening technology on Farmer Households in Atabae timor-Leste

Agriculture is one of the priority sectors in timor-Leste. Introducing new agriculture technology is crucial to enhance agricultural production. Practicing cattle fattening can increase beef cattle body weight and generate income to the beef cattle farmers. As farmers face problems including agricultural production decline, lack of forages and information and weather unfavourable. the study’s purpose was to examine the impact of adoption of cattle fattening technology on farmer households in Atabae administrative post, Bobonaro municipality in timor-Leste. there were 200 beef cattle farmers households where randomly selected in four villages in Atabae. It consisted of 65 farmers practicing cattle fattening and 135 farmers non-practicing cattle fattening. Face to face interviews used structured questionnaire. Statistical analysis such as t-test and descriptive analysis were used to examine impact adoption of cattle fattening technology by farmers and factor constraints of cattle production and the solutions of it. the results indicated the average value of cattle and profit were significant different from zero and it is associated with practicing of cattle fattening. the average of labour used on cattle activities, the average of cattle sold, and total cost spent on cattle were not significant different from zero. the percentage of farmers said that factors constraints cattle production were shortage of water and forage (53%) and spend time on culture ceremony and lack of capital (33%). the number of farmers said that they collected water from river, feed cattle with sago and forage (55.3%) and cultivated forage (23.4%). this finding contributes information to the farmers, traders, and timorese government to continue implementing cattle fattening activities as it enhances farmers’ income and developing cattle production.
