monitoring magnesium degradation using microdialysis and fabric-based biosensors

This paper describes the development of a monitoring system capable of detecting the concentration of magnesium ions(mg^(2+)) released during the degradation of magnesium implants. The system consists of a microdialysis probe that samples fluid adjacent to the implant and a catalytic biosensor specific to mg^(2+)ions. The biosensor was fabricated on a cotton fabric platform, in which a mixture of glycerol kinase and glycerol-3-phosphate oxidase enzymes was immobilized on the fabric device via a simple matrix entrapment technique of the cotton fibers. Pure magnesium was used as the implant material. subsequently, the concentration of ions released from the degradation of the magnesium specimen in Ringer's solution was evaluated using cyclic voltammetry technique. The device demonstrated a pseudo-linear response from 0.005 to 0.1 mmol L^(-1) with a slope of 67.48 μA mmol^(-1) L. Detectable interfering species were lesser than 1%indicating a high selectivity of the fabric device. Furthermore,the device requires only 3 μL of fluid sample to complete the measurement compared to spectroscopic method(±50 μL),hence providing a higher temporal resolution and reduced sampling time. The system could potentially provide a real time assessment of the degradation behavior, a new studied aspect in biodegradable metals research.

Antimicrobial resistance(AmR)has emerged as a significant challenge in human *** treatment plants(WWTPs),acting as a link between human activities and the environment,create ideal conditions for the selection and spread of antibiotic resistance genes(ARGs)and antibioticresistant bacteria(ARB).Unfortunately,current treatment processes are ineffective in removing ARGs,resulting in the release of large quantities of ARB and ARGs into the aquatic environment through WWTP ***,in turn,leads to their dispersion and potential transmission to human through water and the food *** safeguard human and environmental health,it is crucial to comprehend the mechanisms by which WWTP effluent discharge influences the distribution and diffusion of ARGs in downstream *** this study,we examine the latest researches on the antibiotic resistome in various waterbodies that have been exposed to WWTP effluent,highlighting the key influencing ***,recommendations for future research and management strategies to control the dissemination of ARGs from WWTPs to the environment are provided,with the aim to achieve the“One Health”objective.

Ultra-high-Q free-space coupling to microtoroid resonators

Numerical study of the influence of the atmospheric pressure on the thermal environment in the passenger cabin

The cabin air pressure remains lower than the horizontal atmospheric pressure when the airplane is in *** pressure is one of the parameters that must be taken into consideration while studying the thermal environment of an airplane *** are still no reference values for aircraft cabins despite the fact that numerous studies on low pressure heat transfer have demonstrated the connection between convective heat transfer coefficient(CHTC)and air *** this paper,a correction method for CHTC under low pressure conditions was established by using the dummy heat dissipation in the low-pressure cabin *** this basis,a thermal environment simulation model was developed,then was applied to the simulation of a seven-row aircraft cabin containing 42 passengers,and the CHTC and heat loss of dummy surface in the cabin were ***,the results of PmV calculated by using heat dissipation and air parameters at sampling points were *** results show that the modified CHTC can accurately reflect the cabin thermal environment under low pressure conditions,and the correction of CHTC can be realized by adjusting the turbulent Prandtl number,which is nonlinear correlated with the *** simulation results of the thermal environment in the seven-row cabin show that the CHTC changes by about 42%before and after *** air pressure decreases during take-off,which reduces the average CHTC of the crew surface from 5.09 W/(m^(2)·K)to 4.56 W/(m^(2)·K),but the air temperature rises by about 0.2°C as a *** deviation of PmV results calculated by using simulated heat loss data and using air parameters of measuring points in space is up to 0.5,but the latter is representative for calculating the thermal comfort level of the whole cabin.

Re-entry rocket basic flow characteristics and thermal environment of different retro-propulsion modes

During the supersonic re-entry of multi-nozzle heavy rockets into the atmosphere,the basic flow state becomes increasingly complex due to the coupling effect between the retropropulsion plumes and the freestream.A numerical method using the hybrid Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes and Large Eddy Simulation(RES)method and discrete coordinate method is developed to accurately estimate the thermal *** addition,finite rate chemical kinetics is used to calculate the afterburning *** numerical results agree well with wind tunnel data,which confirms the validity and accuracy of the numerical *** are conducted for the heavy carrier rocket re-entry from 53.1 km to 39.5 km altitude with 180°angle of attack by using three different supersonic Retro-Propulsion(SRP)*** numerical results reveal that these three SRP flow fields are all Short Penetration models(SPm).As the re-entry altitudes decrease,both the plume-plume interaction and the plume-freestream interaction become *** highest temperatures in the plume shear layers of the three SRP modes increase by 8.36%,7.33%and 6.92%respectively after considering afterburning reactions,and all occur at a reentry altitude of 39.5 *** the rocket re-enters the atmosphere,the maximum heat flux on the rocket base plate of three SRP modes stabilizes at 290,170 and 200 kW/m^(2) respectively,but the maximum heat flux on the side wall increases *** the altitude declines to 39.5 km,the extreme heat flux of the three modes increase by 84.16%,49.45%and 62.97%respectively compared to that at 53.1 km.

Oxygen uptake response to switching stairs exercise by non-parametric modeling

Oxygen uptake plays a crucial role in the evaluation of endurance performance during exercise and is extensively utilized for metabolic assessment. This study records the oxygen uptake during the exercise phase (i.e., ascending or descending) of the stair exercise, utilizing an experimental dataset that includes ten participants and covers various exercise periods. Based on the designed experiment protocol, a non-parametric modeling method with kernel-based regularization is generally applied to estimate the oxygen uptake changes during the switching stairs exercise, which closely resembles daily life activities. The modeling results indicate the effectiveness of the non-parametric modeling approach when compared to fixed-order models in terms of accuracy, stability, and compatibility. The influence of exercise duration on estimated fitness reveals that the model of the phase-oxygen uptake system is not time-invariant related to respiratory metabolism regulation and muscle fatigue. Consequently, it allows us to study the humans’ conversion mechanism at different metabolic rates and facilitates the standardization and development of exercise prescriptions.

magnetotactic bacteria reside in sediments and stratified water *** are named after their ability to synthesize internal magnetic particles that allow them to align and swim along the Earth’s magnetic field ***,we show that two magnetotactic species,magnetospirillum magneticum strain AmB-1 and magnetospirillum gryphiswaldense strain mSR-1,are *** *** and *** were able to generate current in microbial fuel cells with maximum power densities of 27 and 11μW/m^(2),*** the presence of the electron shuttle resazurin both species were able to reduce the crystalline iron oxide hematite(Fe_(2)O_(3)).In addition,*** could reduce poorly crystalline iron oxide(FeOOH).Our study adds *** and *** to the growing list of known electroactive bacteria,and implies that electroactivity might be common for bacteria within the magnetospirillum genus.

Steady-state superradiance and superradiant lasing attract significant attentions in the field of optical lattice clocks,but have not been achieved yet due to the technical challenges and atom loss *** this article,we propose that their counter-part may be observed in the microwave domain with solid-state spins,i.e.,nitrogen-vacancy center spins and pentacene molecular spins,coupled to microwave resonator at room temperature with realistic technical *** validate our proposal,we investigate systematically the system dynamics and steady-state by solving quantum master equations for the multi-level and multi-process dynamics of trillions of *** calculations show that the superradiant Rabi oscillations occur firstly due to transitions among different Dicke states,and the subsequent continuous-wave superradiant masing can achieve a linewidth well below *** work may guide further exploration of transient and steady-state superradiant masing with the mentioned and other solid-state spins *** ultra-narrow linewidth may find applications in deep-space communications,radio astronomy and high-precision metrology.

Transcriptomic and machine learning analyses identify hub genes of metabolism and host immune response that are associated with the progression of breast capsular contracture

Capsular contracture is a prevalent and severe complication that affects the post-operative outcomes of patients who receive silicone breast *** present,prosthesis replacement is the major treatment for capsular contracture after both breast augmentation procedures and breast reconstruction following breast cancer ***,the mecha-nism(s)underlying breast capsular contracture remains *** study aimed to identify the biological features of breast capsular contracture and reveal the potential underlying mechanism using RNA *** tissues from 12 female patients(15 breast capsules)were divided into low capsular contracture(LCC)and high capsular contracture(HCC)groups based on the Baker ***,41 lipid metabolism-related genes were identified through enrichment analysis,and three of these genes were identified as candidate genes by SVm-RFE and LASSO *** then compared the proportions of the 22 types of im-mune cells between the LCC and HCC groups using a CIBERSORT analysis and explored the Cor-relation between the candidate hub features and immune ***,PRKAR2B was positively correlated with the differentially clustered immune cells,which were m1 macro-phages and follicular helper T cells(area under the ROC=0.786).In addition,the expression of PRKAR2B at the mRNA or protein level was lower in the HCC group than in the LCC *** molecular mechanisms were identified based on the expression levels in the high and low PRKAR2B *** findings indicate that PRKAR2B is a novel diagnostic biomarker for breast capsular contracture and might also influence the grade and progression of capsularcontracture.
