This paper presents an investigation of the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete(Rc)structures in which shear walls are the main lateral load-resisting elements and the participation of flat slab floor systems is not considered in the seismic design *** this regard,the behavior of six prototype structures(with different heights and plan layouts)is investigated through nonlinear static and time history analyses,implemented in the Opensees *** results of the analyses are presented in terms of the behavior of the slab-column connections and their mode of failure at different loading ***,the global response of the buildings is discussed in terms of some parameters,such as lateral overstrength due to the gravity flat slab-column *** to the nonlinear static analyses,in structures in which the slab-column connections were designed only for gravity loads,the slab-column connections exhibited a punching mode of failure even in the early stages of ***,the punching failure was eliminated in structures in which a minimum transverse reinforcement recommended in AcI 318(2019)was provided in the slabs at joint ***,despite neglecting the contribution of gravity flat slab-column frames in the lateral load resistance of the structures,a relatively significant overstrength was imposed on the structures by the gravity frames.

Field and geochemical studies of the Bunu area,sW Nigeria,were carried out on gneiss-metasedimentary rocks that consist of migmatised gneiss,quartz-mica schist,and foliated and massive *** gneissmetasedimentary rocks are interbedded with meta-igneous rock(amphibolite),all of which are intruded by granitoid and cut by basic and felsic *** data on major,trace,and rare earth elements of these rocks from the area were used to speculate on the petrogenetic and geodynamic evolution of the rocks in the ***,the metasedimentary rocks in the area have a restricted range of major oxides such as siO_(2)and Al_(2)O_(3)with low average values of FeO,mnO,caO,and *** of average values of HsFe such as Zr,Nb,and Y are moderately high in migmatitic gneiss,quartzmica schist,and low in both massive and foliated quartzite.ΣLRee average values are 124.25,132.41,and18.64 ppm respectively for migmatite gneiss,quartz-mica schist,and low in both massive and foliated *** rocks are also generally enriched in Ba,cs,Pb,U,cr,Rb,and Zr and depleted in Be,sr,Ti,mo,Th,and *** enrichment–depletion in major oxides and trace elements of the rocks in this area is probably a consequence of the movement of metamorphic remobilized fluids within the rocks in the area during the Pan-African or earlier events as noted in the adjacent egbe-Isanlu schist belt.A further geochemical characterisation of the rocks in the area using Log(Na_(2)O/KO)vs Log(siO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3)indicates that while the protolith of migmatised gneiss and quartzmica schist are greywackes to litharenite in compositions that of quartzites are sublitharenite to quartz *** the ternary plot of Al_(2)O_(3)-(caO+Na_(2)O)-KO for metasedimentary rocks in the area,most migmatitic gneiss and quartz-mica schist rocks plot close to average shale while quartzites mostly tend to illite compositions and almost toward the Al_(2)O_(3)-apex of the diagram attesting to depletion of

Progress in the studies of chirality in atomic nuclei at iThemba LABs is *** regions of chirality,around mass 80 and 190 have been discovered using the AFRODITe array,specifically in the nuclei^(74)As,^(78,80,82)Br,^(81)Kr,and^(193,194,198)*** phenomena have been observed,including multiple chiral bands in the same nucleus,the coexistence of octupole correlations and nuclear chirality,and the coexistence of pseudo spin and nuclear *** best example of chiral degeneracy to date was found in ^(194)*** level scheme of ^(106)Ag has been revisited and interpreted in terms of two-and four-quasiparticle *** using the particle-rotor model have shown that the fingerprints of chirality in the two-quasiparticle system only can occur in an idealised model *** systems with a higher number of quasiparticles,the calculations showed that nuclear chirality can persist.

Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glasses are promising materials for thermometers based on the fluorescence intensity ratio(FIR)***,at high Nd^(3+)concentrations,energy transfer(eT)processes such as optical reabsorption and cross-relaxation can affect the Nd^(3+)emission,which has been little explored in the ***,the present work investigated the use of Nd^(3+)-doped tellurite glass(samples doped with Nd^(3+)at 0.2 mol%,0.5 mol%,2.0 mol%,and 4.0 mol%)in fluorescence thermometers,in the temperature range from 299 to 371 *** results indicate a strong dependence of the FIR parameters on the Nd^(3+)concentration,due to changes in the emission band profiles caused by optical reabsorption of the Nd^(3+)emissions and cross-relaxation processes.A decrease of the relative sensitivity of the ratio^(4)F_(5/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)/^(4)F_(3/2)→^(4)I_(9/2)is observed for samples doped with higher amounts of Nd^(3+).The maximum relative sensitivity at 299 K is 3.00%/K,which is the highest value among the reported Nd^(3+)ions.

In this research, we focus on the free-surface deformation of a one-dimensional elastic semiconductor medium as a function of magnetic field and moisture diffusivity. The problem aims to analyze the interconnection between plasma and moisture diffusivity processes, as well as thermo-elastic waves. The study examines the photothermoelasticity transport process while considering the impact of moisture diffusivity. By employing Laplace's transformation technique, we derive the governing equations of the photo-thermo-elastic medium. These equations include the equations for carrier density, elastic waves, moisture transport, heat conduction, and constitutive relationships. mechanical stresses, thermal conditions, and plasma boundary conditions are used to calculate the fundamental physical parameters in the Laplace domain. By employing numerical techniques, the Laplace transform is inverted to get complete time-domain solutions for the primary physical domains under study. Reference moisture, thermoelastic, and thermoelectric characteristics are employed in conjunction with a graphical analysis that takes into consideration the effects of applied forces on displacement, moisture concentration, carrier density, stress due to forces, and temperature distribution.

We investigated ^(50,52-54)cr-induced fusion reactions for the synthesis of the superheavy element in the 104≤Z≤122 *** cross sections produced in this investigation using ^(54)cr projectiles were compared with those obtained in prior *** estimated cross sections from this analysis are consistent with the findings of prior *** the current study,the predicted cross section was found to be 42fb at 236 meV for ^(53)cr+^(243)Am,23.2 fb at 236 meV for ^(54)cr+^(247)cm,95.6 fb at 240 meV for ^(53)cr+248Bk,and 1.33 fb at 242 meV for ^(53)cr+***,these projected cross sections with excitation energy and beam energy will be useful in future cr-induced fusion reaction investigations.

The main objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of inertia of nonlinear springs on the dispersion behavior of discrete monoatomic chains with lumped and distributed *** developed model can represent the wave propagation problem in a non-homogeneous material consisting of heavy inclusions embedded in a *** inclusions are idealized by lumped masses,and the matrix between adjacent inclusions is modeled by a nonlinear spring with distributed ***,the model is capable of depicting the wave propagation in bi-material bars,wherein the first material is represented by a rigid particle and the second one is represented by a nonlinear spring with distributed *** discrete model of the nonlinear monoatomic chain with lumped and distributed masses is first considered,and a closed-form expression of the dispersion relation is obtained by the second-order Lindstedt-Poincare method(LPm).Next,a continuum model for the nonlinear monoatomic chain is derived directly from its discrete lattice model by a suitable continualization *** subsequent use of the second-order method of multiple scales(mms)facilitates the derivation of the corresponding nonlinear dispersion relation in a closed *** novelties of the present study consist of(i)considering the inertia of nonlinear springs on the dispersion behavior of the discrete mass-spring chains;(ii)developing the second-order LPm for the wave propagation in the discrete chains;and(iii)deriving a continuum model for the nonlinear monoatomic chains with lumped and distributed ***,a parametric study is conducted to examine the effects of the design parameters and the distributed spring mass on the nonlinear dispersion relations and phase velocities obtained from both the discrete and continuum *** parameters include the ratio of the spring mass to the lumped mass,the nonlinear stiffness coefficient of the spring,and the wave amplitude.

In addition to their visible motion such as swimming(e.g.,with the help ofﬂagella),bacteria can also exhibit nanomotion that is detectable only with highly sensitive instruments,and this study shows that it is possible to detect bacterial nanomotion using an AFm detection *** results show that the nanomotion characteristics depend on the bacterial strain,and that nanomotion can be used to sense the metabolic activity of bacteria because the oscillations are sensitive to the food preferences of the bacteria and the type of surrounding medium.
