Bridges are important elements in road system and can influence the entire economy of cities and region. Usually, these structures have high financial investments for their constructions, in this way, maintenance and conservation become so important. Inspection is a technical activity that covers several operations, including performance analysis; examination; final performance report, other operations may be necessary, such as maintenance work, recovery, strengthening and rehabilitation. Technical examination together with some test methods allows a critical and parametric judgment of the bridge performance by minimizing the subjectivity of visual evaluations, and permits a more detailed diagnosis. This paper discusses the methodology to perform tests to complement the assessment recommended by DNIT （Brazilian National Department of Transport Infrastructure）, which consists only on a visual judgment. This approach provides technical basis to classify the bridges as its need and urgency of maintenance.

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the diagnostic value of transforming growth factor β1(TGFβ1),vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF),urokinase-type plasminogen activator(uPA),and tissue-type plasminogen activator(tPA)in CSF for leptomeningeal metastasis(Lm).mETHODS:The authors measured concentrations of biomarkers by ELISA in matched samples of CSF and serum,collected from 132 patients with a solid malignancy with Lm(n =19)and without Lm(n =54)and patients with viral(n = 16)and bacterial(n = 16)meningitis and a variety of nonmalignant,noninfectious neurologic disorders(n = 27).Indexes of the biomarkers(CSF/serum value relative to CSF/serum albumin ratios)were calculated to correct for the serum contribution to the CSF marker ***:CSF VEGF concentration was significantly higher in Lm than in all other *** indexes were also higher,although not *** contrast,the tPA index was significantly decreased in Lm compared with all other *** combination of the VEGF and tPA indexes resulted in a sensitivity of 100%for Lm and a specificity of 73%for the patient group with a primary tumor but without ***:Patients with leptomeningeal metastasis have high vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)indexes and low tissue-type plasminogen activator(tPA)*** cytologic examination of CSF lacks 100%sensitivity for the diagnosis of leptomeningeal metastasis(Lm),the combination VEGF and tPA index analysis may be of additional value in the diagnostic workup of patients suspected of having Lm.

The effects of poor anterior segment compensation on scanning laser polarimetry measurements of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) were systematically explored. A prototype scanning laser polarimeter with an adjustable compensator to neutralize anterior segment birefringence was used. By systematically varying the magnitude and axis of anterior segment compensation in a healthy and a glaucomatous eye,marked changes were observed in RNFL appearance: the healthy eye could appear to have glaucomatous damage,whereas the glaucomatous eye could appear to have a thicker and healthier RNFL. Even small amounts of uncompensated corneal birefringence,which may occur in routine clinical use,resulted in apparent changes in RNFL morphology. Knowledge of this effect is important for clinicians when using scanning laser polarimetry in clinical practice.

The family Ajellomycetaceae(Onygenales)includes mammal-associated pathogens within the genera Blastomyces,Emmonsia,Histoplasma and Paracoccidioides,as well as the recently described genera,Emergomyces that causes disease in immunocompromised hosts,and Emmonsiellopsis,known only from *** further assess the phylogenetic relationships among and between members of these genera and several previously undescribed species,we sequenced and analyzed the DNA-directed RNA polymerase II(rPB2),translation elongation factor 3-a(TEF3),b-tubulin(TUB2),28S large subunit rDNA(LSU)and the internal transcribed spacer regions(ITS)in 68 strains,in addition to morphological and physiological *** better understand the thermal dimorphism among these fungi,the dynamic process of transformation from mycelial to yeast-like or adiaspore-like forms was also assessed over a range of temperatures(6–42C).molecular data resolved the relationships and recognized five major well-supported lineages that correspond largely to the genus ***,typified by Emmonsia parva,is a synonym of Blastomyces that also accommodates Blastomyces helicus(formerly Emmonsia helica).Emmonsia crescens is phylogenetically distinct,and found closely related to a single strain from soil without known *** silverae,Emergomyces canadensis,Emergomyces europaeus and Emmonsia sola are newly *** all of the taxa are associated with human and animal *** crescens,*** and *** are prevalently associated with pulmonary disease in humans or *** helicus,***,Emergomyces africanus,***,***,*** and ***(formerly Emmonsia pasteuriana)are predominantly found in human hosts with immune disorders;no animal hosts are known for these species except ***.

Loss of genetic variability is an increasing challenge in tree breeding programs due to the repeated use of a reduced number of founder ***,in almond,little is known about the genetic variability in current breeding stocks,although several cases of inbreeding depression have been *** gain insights into the genetic structure in modern breeding programs worldwide,marker-verified pedigree data of 220 almond cultivars and breeding selections were *** coefficients,pairwise relatedness,and genetic contribution were calculated for these *** results reveal two mainstream breeding lines based on three cultivars:“Tuono”,“Cristomorto”,and“Nonpareil”.Descendants from“Tuono”or“Cristomorto”number 76(sharing 34 descendants),while“Nonpareil”has 71 *** mean inbreeding coefficient of the analyzed genotypes was 0.041,with 14 genotypes presenting a high inbreeding coefficient,over *** programs from France,the USA,and Spain showed inbreeding coefficients of 0.075,0.070,and 0.037,*** to their genetic contribution,modern cultivars from Israel,France,the USA,Spain,and Australia trace back to a maximum of six main founding *** the group of 65 genotypes carrying the S f allele for self-compatibility,the mean relatedness coefficient was 0.125,with“Tuono”as the main founding genotype(24.7%of total genetic contribution).The results broaden our understanding about the tendencies followed in almond breeding over the last 50 years and will have a large impact into breeding decision-making process *** current genetic variability is required in almond breeding programs to assure genetic gain and continuing breeding progress.

*** strongest locus which associated with type 2 diabetes(T2D)by the common variant rs7903146 is the transcription factor 7-like 2 gene(TCF7L2).We aimed to quantify the interaction of diet/lifestyle interventions and the genetic effect of TCF7L2 rs7903146 on glycemic traits,body weight,or waist circumference in overweight or obese adults in several randomized controlled trials(RCTs).*** October 2016 to may 2018,a large collaborative analysis was performed by pooling individualparticipant data from 7 *** RCTs reported changes in glycemic control and adiposity of the variant rs7903146 after dietary/lifestyle-related interventions in overweight or obese *** treatment interaction models which used the genetic effect encoded by the allele dose and common covariates were applicable to individual participant data in all *** the joint analysis,a total of 7 eligible RCTs were included(n=4,114).Importantly,we observed a significant effect modification of diet/lifestyle-related interventions on the TCF7L2 variant rs7903146 and changes in fasting *** with the control group,diet/lifestyle interventions were related to lower fasting glucose by-3.06(95%CI,-5.77 to-0.36)mg/dL(test for heterogeneity and overall effect:I^(2)=45:1%,pmic control and adiposity traits per one copy of TCF7L2 risk *** findings suggest that carrying the TCF7L2 T risk allele may have a modestly greater benefit for specific diet/lifestyle interventions to improve the control of fasting glucose in overweight or obese adults.
