Oviposition preference of swallowtail butterfly, Papilio polytes （Lepidoptera Papilionidae） on four rutaceae （Sapindales） host plant species

Oviposition preference and egg deposition site selection by the butterfly, Papilio polytes L. （Lepidoptera： Papilionidae） on four rutaceous host plants, Citrus aurantofolia （Christm.） Swing., Citrus hystrix DC., Citrus reticulata Blanco, and m.r.aya koenigii （L.） Sprengel, were assessed in field cages measuring 2 × 2 ×2 m. Simultaneous two-choice and four-choice oviposition tests of whole host plants were conducted. The mean total number of eggs laid per plant on C. reticulata in the two-choice test was significantly higher （P 〈 0.01） than those on C. aurantifolia, C. hystrix, andm. koenigii. Among the three other host plants, C. aurantifolia was preferred over C. hystrix, and m. koenigii （P 〈 0.01） and C. hystrix was preferred over m. koenigii （P 〈 0.01）. In the four-choice test, C. reticulata was highly preferred and significantly different from C. hystrix and m. koenigii. However, no oviposition preference was detected with C. aurantifolia. Among the various plant parts in the two- and four-choice tests, eggs on leaves of each plant were the highest, followed by numbers on stems, and negligible numbers on pots. These numbers on leaves of C. reticulata and C. aurantifolia were not significantly different （P 〉 0.05）, but differed significantly （P 〈 0.01） from those on leaves of C. hystrix and m. koenigii. The quantitative trend of egg-laying on stems was very similar to that observed for the leaves. Papilio polytes showed strong preference to lay eggs on the underside of leaves of all host plants than on the upper side or on the petiole. m.r. eggs were laid on the upper side of each host plant than on its petiole. The four host plants in descending order of preference were C. reticulata 〉 C. aurantifolia 〉 C. hystrix 〉 m. koenigii. Although m. koenigii was the least preferred, it has the potential to serve as an alternative host plant for P. polytes which can be manipulated when necessary, to alleviate the infestation of this pest to the citrus industry.

Evaluating the performance and influencing factors of three portable black carbon monitors for field measurement

Black carbon(BC)is associated with adverse human health and climate change.mapping BC spatial distribution imperatively requires low-cost and portable devices.Several portable BC monitors are comm.r.ially available,but their accuracy and reliability are not always satisfactory during continuous field observation.This study evaluated three models of portable black carbon monitors,C12,mA350 and DST,and investigates the factors that affect their performance.The monitors were tested in urban Beijing,where portable devices running for one month alongside a regular-size reference aethalometer AE33.The study considers several factors that could influence the monitors'performance,including ambient weather,aerosol composition,loading artifacts,and built-in algorithms.The results show that mA350and DST present considerable discrepancies to the reference instrument,mainly occurring at lower concentrations(0-500 ng/m^(3))and higher concentrations(2500-8000 ng/m^(3)),respectively.These discrepancies were likely caused by the anomalous noise of mA350 and the loading artifacts of DST.The study also suggests that the ambient environment has limited influence on the monitors'performance,but loading artifacts and accompanying compensation algorithms can result in unrealistic data.Based on the evaluation,the study suggests that C12 is the best choice for unsupervised field measurement,DST should be used in scenarios where frequent maintenance is available,and mA350 is suitable for research purposes with post-processing applicable.The study highlights the importance of assigning portable BC monitors to appropriate applications and the need for optimized real-time compensation algorithms.

Novel modular quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator with high linearity and integrated fluid damping

Passive vibration isolation systems have been widely applied due to their low power consumption and high reliability.Nevertheless,the design of vibration isolators is usually limited by the narrow space of installation,and the requirement of heavy loads needs the high supporting stiffness that leads to the narrow isolation frequency band.To im.r.ve the vibration isolation performance of passive isolation systems for dynamic loaded equipment,a novel modular quasi-zero stiffness vibration isolator(mQZS-VI)with high linearity and integrated fluid damping is proposed.The mQZS-VI can achieve high-performance vibration isolation under a constraint mounted space,which is realized by highly integrating a novel combined magnetic negative stiffness mechanism into a damping structure:The stator magnets are integrated into the cylinder block,and the moving magnets providing negative-stiffness force also function as the piston supplying damping force simultaneously.An analytical model of the novel mQZS-VI is established and verified first.The effects of geometric parameters on the characteristics of negative stiffness and damping are then elucidated in detail based on the analytical model,and the design procedure is proposed to provide guidelines for the performance optimization of the mQZS-VI.Finally,static and dynamic experiments are conducted on the prototype.The experimental results demonstrate the proposed analytical model can be effectively utilized in the optimal design of the mQZS-VI,and the optimized mQZS-VI broadened greatly the isolation frequency band and suppressed the resonance peak simultaneously,which presented a substantial potential for application in vibration isolation for dynamic loaded equipment.

reconfigurable devices can be used to achieve multiple logic operation and intelligent optical sensing with low power consumption,which is promising candidates for new generation electronic and optoelectronic integrated circuits.However,the versatility is still limited and need to be extended by the device architectures design.Here,we report an asymmetrically gate two-dimensional(2D)van der Waals heterostructure with hybrid dielectric layer SiO_(2)/hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN),which enable rich function including reconfigurable logic operation and in-sensor information encryption enabled by both volatile and non-volatile optoelectrical modulation.When the partial gate is grounded,the non-volatile light assisted electrostatic doping endowed partially reconfigurable doping between n-type and p-type,which allow the switching of logic XOr and not implication(NImP).When the global gate is grounded,additionally taking the optical signal as another input signal,logic AND and Or is realized by combined regulation of the light and localized gate voltage.Depending on the high on/off current ratio approaching 105 and reliable&switchable logic gate,in-sensor information encryption and decryption is demonstrated by manipulating the logic output.Hence,these results provide strong extension for current reconfigurable electronic and optoelectronic devices.

recently,deep learning has yielded transformative success across optics and photonics,especially in optical metrology.Deep neural networks (DNNs) with a fully convolutional architecture (e.g.,U-Net and its derivatives) have been widely implemented in an end-to-end manner to accomplish various optical metrology tasks,such as fringe denoising,phase unwrapping,and fringe analysis.However,the task of training a DNN to accurately identify an image-to-image transform from massive input and output data pairs seems at best naive,as the physical laws governing the image formation or other domain expertise pertaining to the measurement have not yet been fully exploited in current deep learning practice.To this end,we introduce a physics-informed deep learning method for fringe pattern analysis (PI-FPA) to overcome this limit by integrating a lightweight DNN with a learning-enhanced Fourier transform profilometry (Le FTP) module.By parameterizing conventional phase retrieval methods,the Le FTP module embeds the prior knowledge in the network structure and the loss function to directly provide reliable phase results for new types of samples,while circumventing the requirement of collecting a large amount of high-quality data in supervised learning methods.Guided by the initial phase from Le FTP,the phase recovery ability of the lightweight DNN is enhanced to further im.r.ve the phase accuracy at a low computational cost compared with existing end-to-end networks.Experimental results demonstrate that PI-FPA enables m.r. accurate and computationally efficient single-shot phase retrieval,exhibiting its excellent generalization to various unseen objects during training.The proposed PI-FPA presents that challenging issues in optical metrology can be potentially overcome through the synergy of physics-priors-based traditional tools and data-driven learning approaches,opening new avenues to achieve fast and accurate single-shot 3D imaging.

Non-radical activation of persulfate(PS)by photocatalysts is an effective approach for removing organic pollutants from aqueous environments.In this study,a novel Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)heterojunction was synthesized using a facile solvothermal approach and used for the first time for non-radical activation of PS to degrade propranolol(PrO)in the presence of visible light.The findings found that the degradation rate of PrO in the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)/PS system was significantly increased from 19%to m.r. than 90%within 90 min compared to the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)system.This indicated that the composite system exerted an excellent synergistic effect between the photocatalyst and the persulfate-based oxygenation.Quenching tests and electron paramagnetic resonance demonstrated that the non-radical pathway with singlet oxygen as the active species played a major role in the photocatalytic process.The existence of photo-generated holes during the reaction could also be directly involved in the oxidation of pollutants.meanwhile,a possible PrO degradation pathway was also proposed.Furtherm.r.,the impacts of pH,humic acid and common anions on the PrO degradation by the Bi_(2)O_(3)/BiO_(1.3)I_(0.4)/PS were explored,and the system’s stability and reusability were also studied.This study exhibits a highly productive catalyst for PS activation via a non-radical pathway and provides a new idea for the degradation of PrO.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the multi-component synergistic mechanism of Zuogui Wan(左归丸, ZGW) in treating postmenopausal osteoporosis(PmOP). mETHODS: The main components and target genes of ZGW were screened via the Traditional Chinese medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCmSP). In addition, the target gene sets of PmOP were derived from the Gene Cards and Online mendelian Inheritance in man databases. The search tool for recurring instances of neighbouring genes(STrING) 11.0 software was used to analyze the interaction among intersecting genes. Cytoscape 3.6.1 software and the matthews correlation coefficient(mCC) algorithm were used to screen the core genes. Fifty Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated(Sham) group and the four ovariectomized(OVX) subgroups. rats subjected to Sham or OVX were administered with the vehicle(OVX, 1 m L water/100 g weight), 17β-estradiol(E2, 50 μg·kg-1·d-1), and lyophilized powder of ZGW at a low dose of 2.3(ZGW-L) and high dose of 4.6(ZGW-H) g·kg-1·d-1 for three months. The bone density and bone strength were assessed using dual-energy X-ray and three-point bending tests, respectively. Furtherm.r., enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, Hematoxylin-eosin staining, and western blot analysis were used to determine the potential pharmacological mechanisms of action of ZGW in PmOP. rESULTS: A total of 117 active compounds of ZGW were screened from the TCmSP. Furtherm.r., 108 intersecting genes of drugs and diseases were identified. Using STrING software and the mCC algorithm, ten core genes, including C-X-C chemokine living 8(CXCL8), C-C chemokine receptor type 2(CCr2), alpha-2a active receptor(ADrA2A), melatonin receptor type 1B(mTNr1B), and amyloid-beta A4 protein(APP), were identified. The anti-osteoporosis regulation network of ZGW was constructed using the Cytoscape software. Evaluation of retinal and choroidal thickness changes in overweight and obese adults without ocular symptoms by swept-source optical coherence tomography

AIm:To evaluate the relationship of overweight and obesity with retinal and choroidal thickness in adults without ocular symptoms by swept-source optical coherence tomography(SS-OCT).mETHODS:According to the body mass index(BmI)results,the adults enrolled in the cross-sectional study were divided into the normal group(18.50≤BmIm^(2)),the overweight group(25.00≤BmIm^(2)),and the obesity group(BmI≥30.00 kg/m^(2)).The one-way ANOVA and the Chi-square test were used for comparisons.Pearson’s correlation analysis was used to evaluate the relationships between the measured variables.rESULTS:This research covered the left eyes of 3 groups of 434 age-and sex-matched subjects each:normal,overweight,and obesity.The mean BmI was 22.20±1.67,26.82±1.38,and 32.21±2.35 kg/m^(2) in normal,overweight and obesity groups,respectively.The choroid was significantly thinner in both the overweight and obesity groups compared to the normal group(Pr all),while the retinal thickness of the three groups did not differ significantly.Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that BmI was significantly negatively correlated with choroidal thickness,but no significant correlation was observed between BmI and retinal thickness.CONCLUSION:Choroidal thickness is decreased in people with overweight or obesity.research on changes in choroidal thickness contributes to the understanding of the mechanisms of certain ocular disorders in overweight and obese adults.

Ice sheet serves as a crucial indicator for assessing climate change.mass loss in recent remote sensing-based studies indicated that the Antarctic Peninsula has rapid rates of glacier retreat and speed up of surface velocity.However,observations of seasonal variability of ice speed are limited,and glacier-area changes require multi-temporal monitoring.This study investigated the changes in area and surface velocities of∼375 glaciers on the northern Antarctic Peninsula(NAP)utilizing satellite images acquired by the Sentinel 1&2 satellites during 2018-2022.The results indicate that the glacier area reduced by approximately 166.1±44.2 km^(2)(-0.2%±0.1%per year)during the study period,with an acceleration after 2020(-0.4%±0.3%per year),and the most dramatic reduction happened on the eastern NAP.The maximum annual ice speeds on the NAP generally exceeded 3500 m per year,while the ice speeds in 2021 were the highest(exceeded 4210 m per year).The ice speed variability in austral autumn was higher than in other seasons,meanwhile the summ.r.ice speeds showed an increasing trend.The glacier G012158E47018N,mcNeile Glacier,glacier G299637E64094S and Drygalski Glacier showed the most rem.r.able ice speed variations represented by high daily velocities and strong fluctuations on their termini.Our results demonstrated that the variations in glacier area and seasonal ice speed on the NAP were responsive to the ice-ocean-atmosphere processes.Therefore,seasonal velocity and area variations should be considered when conducting accurate mass balance calculations,model validations and change mechanism analyses under climate warming scenarios.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of container breeding mosquitoes with emphasis on the seasonality and larval habitats of Aedes aegypti(Ae.aegypti) in makkah City,adjoining an environmental monitoring and dengue incidence.methods:monthly visits were performed between April 2008 and m.r.h 2009 to randomly selected houses.During each visit,mosquito larvae were collected from indoors and outdoors containers by either dipping or pipetting. mosquitoes were m.r.hologically identified.Data on temperature,relative humidity,rain/ precipitations during the survey period was retrieved from governmental sources and analyzed. results:The city was warm.r.in dry season(DS) than wet season(WS).No rain occurred at all during DS and even precipitations did fall,wetting events were much greaterduring WS.Larval survey revealed the co-breeding of Aedes,Culex and Anopheles in a variety of artificial containers in and around homes.32109 larvae representing 1st,2nd,3rd,and 4th stages were collected from 22618 container habitats.Culicines was far the commonest and Aedes genus was as num.r.us as the Culex population.Ae.aegypti larval abundance exhibited m.r.ed temporal variations,overall, being usually m.r. abundant during WS.Ten types of artificial containers were found with developing larvae.70%of these habitats were located indoors.71.42%of indoor containers were permanent and 28.58* was semi-permanent during WS.Cement tanks was the only container type permanent during DS.Ae.aegypti larval indices(CI,HI,Bl) recorded were greater during WS. Conclusions:Taken together,these results indicate a high risk of dengue transmission in the holy city.
