Renal cell carcinoma presented with a rare case of icteric Stauffer syndrome:A case report

BACKGROUND Paraneoplastic syndromes remain poorly understood and manifest as multifaceted clinical symptoms,making their diagnosis *** can be observed in various *** rare cases,it can be a paraneoplastic manifestation,most often associated with renal cell carcinoma and other urogenital tumors,as well as with bronchial *** classical form of Stauffer syndrome presents with a reversible anicteric increase of cholestatic liver function tests,thrombocytosis,coagulation impairment,and hepatosplenomegaly,without any proven hepatobiliary obstruction or *** SUmmARY We report a patient who presented with elevated liver enzymes,cholestatic jaundice,weight loss and pruritus,in whom renal cell carcinoma was incidentally found during ***,laboratory,and imaging tests excluded primary hepatic cause or metastatic *** and laboratory abnormalities reversed completely a few months after *** case is an example of the many sides of renal cell carcinoma,and it focuses the clinicians’attention on the differential diagnosis of cholestasis,including Stauffer syndrome and its ***,the correct diagnosis can be straightforward and the associated malignancy can be treated *** cases should be followed up with a multidisciplinary ***(IL)-6 is proposed to contribute to the pathophysiology of the *** probable mechanism is proinflammatory activity by the IL-6 cytokine,causing elevation of C-reactive protein and haptoglobin and inhibition of hepatobiliary transporter gene expression,impairing biliary *** Despite being rare,Stauffer syndrome is a potentially reversible paraneoplastic condition,when the primary cause is *** syndrome should be considered by clinicians because of the remediable liver disturbance,after successful treatment of the underlying malignancy.

Protective effects of polar lipids and redox-active compounds from marine organisms at modeling of hyperlipidemia and diabetes

Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus are leading causes of mortality in modern society. The search for a novel effective remedy represents an important task for modern medicine. A total mixture of phospho- and glycolipids from sea macrophytes Sargassum pallidum, Ulva fenestrata, Zostera marina was separated and the fatty acid composition was determined. The biological activity of the mixtures of polar lipids and natural redox-active compounds (echinochrome A from the flat sea urchin Scaphechinus mirabilis and a polyphenolic complex from the sea grass Zostera marina) was studied under conditions of impairments of carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Doses and compositions of mixtures of pola lipids and redox-active compounds possessing high corrective activity were optimized in mice with the experimental model of hyperlipidemia and diabetes. Based on these results possible mechanisms of the effects of polar lipids containing various polyunsaturated fatty acids and the investigated redox-active compounds (echinochrome A, rosmarinic acid, luteolin and its sulphate conjugates) have been proposed. The developed compositions may be used for creation of new biologically active additives and remedies.

Behavior of the coercivity of the high-temperature Sm(Co0.88-xFexCu0.09Zr0.03)7 magnets depending on the temperature and time of annealing with the temperature decreasing stepwise from 700 to 400℃ was *** is shown that the growth rate of coercivity abruptly increases at the initial stage of annealing in the vicinity of the Curie temperature of the SmCo5 *** origin of the effect is the counter diffusion of Cu and Co atoms through dislocation tubes,which form because of enhanced stresses and a partial breakage of coherent coupling at the interface of the Sm2 Co17 and SmCo5 *** enrichment of the SmCo5 phase in Cu close to the interface with Sm2 Co17 leads to relaxation of stresses and increases in the gradient of the magnetic domain-wall energy and coercivity.

Exploring in-situ combustion effects on reservoir properties of heavy oil carbonate reservoir

Laboratory modeling of in-situ combustion is crucial for understanding the potential success of field trials in thermal enhanced oil recovery（EOR） and is a vital precursor to scaling the technology for field applications. The high combustion temperatures, reaching up to 480℃, induce significant petrophysical alterations of the rock, an often overlooked aspect in thermal EOR projects. Quantifying these changes is essential for potentially repurposing thermally treated, depleted reservoirs for *** this study, we depart from conventional combustion experiments that use crushed core, opting instead to analyze the thermal effects on reservoir properties of carbonate rocks using consolidated samples. This technique maintains the intrinsic porosity and permeability, revealing combustion's impact on porosity and mineralogical alterations, with a comparative analysis of these properties pre-and post-combustion. We characterize porosity and pore geometry evolution using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray micro-computed tomography, and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. mineral composition of the rock and grain-pore scale alterations are analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray *** analysis shows a significant increase in carbonate rocks' porosity, pore size and mineral alterations, and a transition from mixed-wet to a strongly water-wet state. Total porosity of rock samples increased in average for 15%-20%, and formation of new pores is registered at the scale of 1-30 μm ***-temperature exposure results in the calcite and dolomite decomposition, calcite dissolution and formation of new minerals—anhydrite and fluorite. AIm:To investigate the expression of dipeptidyl peptidase(DPP) 8 and DPP9 in lymphocytes and various models of liver ***:DPP8 and DPP9 expression were measured in mouse splenic CD4 + T-cells,CD8 + T-cells and B-cells(B220 +),human lymphoma cell lines and mouse splenocytes stimulated with pokeweed mitogen(PWm) or lipopolysaccharide(LPS),and in dithiothreitol(DTT) and mitomycin-C treated Raji ***8 and DPP9 expression were measured in epidermal growth factor(EGF) treated Huh7 hepatoma cells,in fibrotic liver samples from mice treated with carbon tetrachloride(CCl 4) and from multidrug resistance gene 2(mdr2 /Abcb4) gene knockout(gko) mice with biliary fibrosis,and in human end stage primary biliary cirrhosis(PBC).RESULTS:All three lymphocyte subsets expressed DPP8 and DPP9 ***8 and DPP9 expression were upregulated in both PWm and LPS stimulated mouse splenocytes and in both Jurkat T-and Raji B-cell ***8 and DPP9 were downregulated in DTT treated and upregulated in mitomycin-C treated Raji ***9transfected Raji cells exhibited more annexin V + cells and associated ***8 and DPP9 mRNA were upregulated in CCl 4 induced fibrotic livers but not in the lymphocytes isolated from such livers,while DPP9 was upregulated in EGF stimulated Huh7 *** contrast,intrahepatic DPP8 and DPP9 mRNA expression levels were low in the mdr2 gko mouse and in human PBC compared to non-diseased ***:These expression patterns point to biological roles for DPP8 and DPP9 in lymphocyte activation and apoptosis and in hepatocytes during liver disease pathogenesis.

Paleoclimatic settings have been reconstructed for the Campanian using original oxygenisotopic analyses of well-preserved molluskan and foraminifera shells from Russian Far East, Hokkaido, USA, Belgium and some DSDP holes （95, 98, 102, 390A, and 392A） in North Atlantic. Early Early Campanian climatic optimum has been recognized from data on high bottom shelf water paleotemperatures in middle latitudes of both the western circum-Pacific （to 24.2℃） and the eastern circum-Pacific （to 26.4℃） areas and high bottom shallow water paleotemperatures in high latitudes of the Koryak Upland （22.4-25.5℃）, which agrees with the data on the Campanian Barykovskaya flora in high latitudes （Golovneva and Herman, 1998） and Jonker flora and its equivalents in middle latitudes. Judging from the data on comparatively high bottom shallow water paleotemperature values in high latitudes, South Alaska （19.4℃） and the Koryak Upland （22.4-25.5℃）, we also expect Latest Campauian temperature maximum, which has not been confirmed, however, for low and middle latitudes by neither of isotopic nor paleobotanic data now. main dimatic tendency during the Campanian （with the exception of Latest Campanian） has been learned from isotopic composition of Campanian aragonitic ammonoid shells from the Hokkaido-South Sakhalin （Krilyon） marine basin. In contrary to Huber＇s et al. （2002） assumption, we expect warm greenhouse conditions during the most part of the Campanian.

Recent Russian remote sensing investigations in Antarctica within the framework of scientific traverses

This paper includes a short historical review of Russian and Soviet scientific traverses to study the Antarctic inland. The first traverse left on April 2, 1956. It resulted in the opening of the first Russian inland research station named Pionerskaya and provided the first geophysical and glaciological data on regions inland of the Antarctic coast. By 1965, a number of regional inland scientific traverses had been completed and. the first Atlas of Antarctica was published in 1966. The atlas presented the main achievements of that time. After the discovery of Lake Vostok, Russian scientists commenced remote sensing investigations to study this unique natural phenomenon. The propagation of acoustic and electromagnetic waves in the glacier near Vostok Station were measured to provide important geophysical data. Radio-echo sounding data showed that Lake Vostok is isolated and separated from the rest of the Antarctic subglacial hydrosphere. The total area of the lake is 15 790 km2, excluding 365 km^2 occupied by 11 islands. Reflection seismic soundings of Lake Vostok estimated a total volume of about 6 100 km^3, an average depth of about 400 m, and a maximum depth of 1 200 m. Since 2008, there have been a number of scientific traverses between mirny and Vostok stations and between Progress and Vostok stations. The data collected during the traverses have provided new insights into sub-ice topography and ice sheet structure, and have led to the discovery of subglacial lakes near Komsomolskaya Station and under Pionerskaya Station.

Pole to Equator Temperature Gradient for Coniacian Time,Late Cretaceous:Oxygen and Carbon Isotopic Data on the Koryak Upland and Hokkaido

The purpose of this study was to estimate the Coniacian latitudinal thermal gradient in the Northern Hemisphere. Both hemipelagic （ammonoids） and benthic （brachiopods and bivalves） δ18O and δ^13C records were used. They originated from Coniacian shallow-water sequences across a wide range of paleolatitudes, from the Koryak upland （northern Kamchatka, Russian Far East） in the north, to Hokkaido （Japan） in the south. Among Coniacian ammonoids, both migrants from Hokkaido living in high latitudes （Kamchatka） and endemic forms dwelling in middle-low latitudes （Hokkaido） indicate seemingly close optimal growth temperatures. Nevertheless, certain differences in climatic conditions, prevailing during high-latitude coldest seasons, undoubtedly provoked growth cessation in some groups of ammonites. Our isotopic study suggests latitudinal temperature changes of only 0.12 ℃ per degree of latitude for the Northern Hemisphere in Coniacian times, while the average annual temperature in North Kamchatka seems about 3.3 ℃ lower than that in Hokkaido.
